Our top 2 DB targets likely out now

Khamauri Rogers is no longer going to visit. Loy said he's removing him from the target board. Jyaire Brown's dad died and he was the one driving the train for him to consider ND, so not much optimism there, either.

  3. I never was going to believe we were getting a guy from Mississippi until I saw him suited up at practice. Sucks about Jyaire Brown, tough situation for him. Think they get 3-4 of the following to go with Mickey:
    Nikai Martinez
    Benjamin Morrison
    Jayden Bellamy
    Sherrod Covil
    Jake Pope

Would be pretty pleased with that but obviously not the home run Rogers and Brown would have been

It's crazy and a bit sad that even with taking the top 2 off the board, that would still easily be our best CB haul of recent memory.

  8. Lynch was not a great recruiter but I felt the secondaries were mostly solid but there has been a talent drought in the back four. I actually sneaky liked last class but it relies on way too many projects hitting. They need to start landing some sure things. ND needs to get to the point where you add 1 athletic guy with potential at each position group to figure out what you can do with them. I think Elston has done this though I think last class he may have overextended a bit but we will see.

Recruiting Scoop from Loy, a lot of info in there

So, what’s the latest with each target on the board?

Irish Illustrated brings you a complete rundown in order of how they’re listed within the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

    SLIDE1 of 11
Five-star OL Zach Rice: Notre Dame is one of five schools in play to land the top talent. Virginia, Ohio State, North Carolina and Alabama round out the Top 5. He’s expected to take official visits to each of these schools and then make a decision. The majority of sources closely connected to this recruitment believe North Carolina is the frontrunner as of today.

Four-star RB Gavin Sawchuk: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 25-27. Oklahoma, Oregon and others are in play, but there are some people that believe the Fighting Irish are a dark horse and could maybe even be in the Top 2 at this point. We’ll see what happens when he visits, which will be his second time on campus.

Four-star DE Cyrus Moss: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. The Fighting Irish are in his Top 5 along with Clemson, Oregon, Florida and Arizona State. Depending on who you talk with, all five have reasons for optimism. Notre Dame will hold a spot for him no matter when he wants to commit, which is expected to be late in the process. The Irish are a legitimate threat.

Four-star OL Joe Brunner: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. Wisconsin is the favorite per the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but this recruitment is far from over. He’ll be at Wisconsin to start the month of June, then he heads to Ohio State, then wraps things up in South Bend. All three programs have a shot.

    SLIDE2 of 11
Four-star DB Xavier Nwankpa: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. Ohio State is the favorite and if I was forced to make a pick today, I’d pick the Buckeyes as well. Notre Dame is doing well here and is, in my opinion, No. 2 right now, so we’ll see if things shake up in June.

Four-star WR C.J. Williams: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 25-27. I believe Notre Dame is the leader at this point and his relationship with receivers coach Del Alexander is a big reason. You can’t count out Texas, USC and a few others, but I like the Irish to win this recruitment as of today.

Four-star LB Jaylen Sneed: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 14-16. His self-guided unofficial visit couldn’t have gone better. Notre Dame will have to beat Oregon to land him, which is exactly what I expect them to do.

Four-star LB Niuafe Tuihalamaka: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 11-13. As we’ve reported, a decision could come on June 18, which is his father’s birthday. I love the Irish as of today, but there are some heavy-hitters in play like Texas, Arizona State, Stanford and Oregon.

    SLIDE3 of 11

Four-star RB Nicholas Singleton: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. This looks like a Notre Dame vs. Penn State battle, with Ohio State falling down the list a bit. This recruitment will likely be decided during his official visits and both schools will layout the red carpet.

Four-star OL Aamil Wagner: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. There was more optimism from the Irish before Ohio State offered. That said, he’ll take official visits to a couple of schools and decide at that time. My gut says the Buckeyes win this battle though.

Four-star CB Jyaire Brown: Following the tragic passing of his father, the Ohio State commit took a step back from recruiting. He was going to visit Notre Dame, but that was canceled. He hasn’t locked in his official visit quiet yet, but that could occur in the near future. It looks like he’ll be in Columbus in early June and then potentially make his way to South Bend later that month. However, how this recruitment will play out is anyone’s guess right now.

Four-star WR Kaden Saunders: Notre Dame is still hoping he has a change of heart, but there is little no optimism that he eventually de-commits from Penn State. Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and receivers coach Del Alexander will talk to him as long as he listens, but right now, all signs point toward the Lions keeping his verbal throughout the process.

    SLIDE4 of 11
Four-star DT Anthony Lucas: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 11-13. The Irish staff is much more optimistic as of late due to the tremendous efforts of defensive line coach Mike Elston, defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman and head coach Brian Kelly. The staff is going to have to beat Alabama, UCLA and others, but the Irish absolutely could get this done.

Four-star WR Tobias Merriweather: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 11-13. This is a huge visit for the Irish, as the staff would love to get him on board before the end of summer. Oregon, USC, UCLA and others are going to make it tough on them, but the fact that he committed to the visit and he’s locked in to take it, that’s a good sign. This will be his second time on campus. He came on his own, which shows the interest is real.

Four-star LB Sebastian Cheeks: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. The Fighting Irish should be able to land him unless they fill up. North Carolina and Texas are going to host him for officials, and Michigan likely will as well. It’s going to be a busy June for the Top150 talent, but the Irish should still be considered the favorite.

Four-star OL Carson Hinzman: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. The Fighting Irish absolutely love this kid and believe he has the chance to be a great player at the next level. Will he end up at Notre Dame or Wisconsin? The Crystal Ball says the Badgers, but the Irish could pull off the perceived upset here with a great visit.

    SLIDE5 of 11

Four-star OL Billy Schrauth: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. I love the spot the Irish are in as of today. I’d genuinely be shocked if he didn’t end up in this class. Notre Dame has done really well here, led by offensive line coach Jeff Quinn.

Four-star LB Devon Jackson: Notre Dame is among a few schools at the top for the speedy defensive standout. Jackson is considering Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Arizona State, Miami and Oklahoma. Right now, it looks like the Sun Devils are alone at the top. However, if the Fighting Irish coaching staff decides to turn up the heat, things could change quickly in favor of Notre Dame. However, right now, I like where Arizona State is at in this recruitment. That staff is doing a tremendous job.

Four-star RB Gi'Bran Payne: Notre Dame is recruiting him, but not pushing all that hard at this time. That could change, but right now it seems others are in better position.

Four-star DT Ernest Cooper IV: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 25-27. I'm intrigued to see how things play out with this recruitment. My feeling today is that Stanford will be his landing spot, but that could change depending on how things end up with Notre Dame and top defensive tackle target Anthony Lucas. If things, for example, start trending away for some reason, they may go all-in for Cooper and it'll be interesting to see if that changes the direction of his recruitment.

    SLIDE6 of 11
Four-star DB Sherrod Covil: Things are still a little up in the air here, but I believe Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 25-27. The Fighting Irish staff has turned up the heat a bit for him as of late, as we're told he was under the impression Notre Dame wasn't as interested as they were before. That wasn't the case. The staff was just moving some pieces around the board and trying to determine the direction they will go heading into June official visits. When the staff got a glimpse of his junior tape, they couldn't have been more impressed. Covil also hasn't been in a big hurry with his recruitment, as he's focusing on his high school team right now.

Four-star WR Andre Greene Jr.: Notre Dame could host him for an official visit in June, but there are some sources that believe he could remain patient and not do anything until the fall. The Fighting Irish are clearly in the top group, as there is plenty of mutual interest. However, things seem to be moving at a slow pace right now, which seems fine for everyone involved. That said, Notre Dame is very high on Greene.

Four-star RB Dallan Hayden: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 11-13. The Irish are battling with Ohio State right now. While Ohio State sources are much more optimistic than those connected to Notre Dame, the Irish are surely still in play. Official visits will play a big role in his final decision. I do give the Buckeyes a slight edge as of today, but we'll see if Notre Dame can do anything about that when he visits in June.

Four-star WR Taylor Groves: The plan as of today for the former Michigan commit is to make his way to Notre Dame for a self-guided unofficial visit on or around May 8. If all goes well, look for him to return for an official visit in June. He is fresh off a trip to Ole Miss that went well. I'm not sure he's in a hurry to make another decision, but Notre Dame seems to be in the mix due to the efforts of receivers coach Del Alexander.

    SLIDE7 of 11

Four-star LB Lander Barton: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the fall football season. Neither side seem to be in a hurry. The Irish have a few others higher on the board and could very well fill up this summer, which is what I expect, but if not, Barton will make his way to campus in the fall.

Four-star TE Holden Staes: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. I love the spot the Irish are in as of today. I’d genuinely be shocked if he didn’t end up in this class. As I’ve said before, don’t be surprised if he’s committed before he steps on campus again. Notre Dame has done really well here, led by tight ends coach John McNulty and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.

Four-star WR Nicholas Anderson: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. I’m very close to picking the Irish on the 247Sports Crystal Ball. He can run, catches the ball at a high level, he’s got the bloodlines, and he’s a tremendous fit. We’ll see if the Irish can get it done.

Four-star CB Benjamin Morrison: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 11-13. Led by special teams coordinator Brian Polian, the Irish are a top contender. There is a feeling inside the Gug that Notre Dame leads, but others are very much in play such as Michigan, Oregon, Washington, UCLA and Oklahoma.

    SLIDE8 of 11
Four-star OL Jake Taylor: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 11-13. This is a huge visit, as he’s wanted to get to South Bend for a long time. The Top 3 includes Oklahoma and Alabama as well. The Sooners are the team to beat right now, at least according to those most plugged in, but Notre Dame and Alabama have reasons for optimism if those trips go well. Oklahoma does well at Bishop Gorman, led by running backs coach DeMarco Murray.

Four-star DB Jaden Mangham: Notre Dame is tentatively hosting him for an official visit over the weekend of June 25-27, but having that pushed back potentially to the fall is still a possibility. Neither side seems all that rushed to move things forward right now.

Four-star OL George Fitzpatrick: He took a self-guided unofficial visit to Notre Dame over the weekend of Apr. 10-11. We’re told it went really well and was an eye-opener regarding everything Notre Dame has to offer. The plan is to return for an official visit, but we haven’t been able to pin down exactly when he’ll be back on campus in South Bend.

Four-star CB Nikai Martinez: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of 18-20. I believe, if there is room, he’ll eventually end up with the Fighting Irish. However, a few other recruitments could end up playing a big role in whether or not he has a spot in the class. Clemson is another in a similar situation.

    SLIDE9 of 11

Four-star RB Damari Alston: Notre Dame is recruiting him, but not pushing all that hard at this time. That could change, but right now it seems others are in better position.

Three-star DB Jake Pope: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 11-13. North Carolina, Alabama and Ohio State will host him in June for official visits as well. Each of these finalists are big players in this recruitment and nothing is set regarding his final landing spot. The Irish feel he has said all the right things to give them optimism.

Three-star DB Jayden Bellamy: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 18-20. My feeling is that Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State are battling it outright now at the top. Rutgers is a potential dark horse as well. He’ll take multiple official visits in June and then likely lock up a spot shortly after those wrap up.

Three-star TE Eli Raridon: He just visited on his own for a self-guided trip, one that went really, really well from what I’ve gathered. He’ll return for an official visit over the weekend of June 18-20. Iowa is a big player here as well, but I like Notre Dame to land him.

    SLIDE10 of 11
Three-star WR Joseph Griffin Jr.: Notre Dame just offered the Boston College commit, but this is a guy the staff has been tracking for months. The Irish wanted to see growth as a junior and his film has been impressive this spring. He’s one to keep an eye on.

Three-star CB Devin Moore: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 11-13. I like where the Irish stands at this point. Alabama, Florida, Florida State and others are in play, but I believe the Fighting Irish can and will win this battle.

Three-star DT Donovan Hinish: He’ll visit for the Blue-Gold Spring Game on May 1. A commitment isn’t out of the question, but I think a decision sometime in June is a little more likely. I love Notre Dame’s chances at landing him at this point.

Three-star RB Quinshon Judkins: Notre Dame is recruiting him, but not pushing all that hard at this time. That could change, but right now it seems others are in better position.

    SLIDE11 of 11
Three-star DB Kevin Winston: Notre Dame will host him for an official visit during the weekend of June 25-27. The Irish look to be in great shape right now, although Penn State is a player as well. His connection with the ND staff is second to none. If they aren’t full by the time he visits, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him land with the Irish.

    66COMMENTS
Three-star WR Addison Copeland: Notre Dame is recruiting him, but not pushing all that hard at this time. If Notre Dame makes a run, I believe the Irish will land him.

Three-star DB Kye Stokes: He’s a new name on the board. He just recently picked up an offer from safeties coach Chris O’Leary. The Irish staff really like him and will continue to push to get him on campus this summer. He’s blowing up as of late, so I don’t think he even knows where he’s leaning quite yet.

Three-star WR Xayvion Bradshaw: Notre Dame is recruiting him, but not pushing too hard quite yet. If Notre Dame makes a strong run, I believe the Irish will land him.

Biggins said in the comments that he believes ND leads here...I still like Tobias Merriweather better but I would take both of them in this class since they really aren't the same WR

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei wide out C.J. Williams moved a few of his official visits around and has a commitment date in mind as well.

Williams and his Mater Dei teammates capped off a perfect 5-0 spring shortened season in style with a big 34-17 win over archival Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco two weeks ago. It was a solid season for Williams who finished the year with 16 catches for 239 yards and five touchdowns including two in the win over the Braves.

At 6-2, 195 pounds, he’s a strong, physical receiver, an advanced route runner with strong hands and very good adjusting to the football. He had a spectacular one handed touchdown grab in the Bosco game and his body control and ball awareness are definitely two of his best traits.

On the recruiting front, Williams had to move a few of his visits around but does have three trips locked in for June now.

“I moved my visit to Notre Dame back from the first weekend of the month to the last weekend now,” Williams said. “I’ll be there on June 26th and really looking forward to getting out there and seeing everything close up.”

When asked what school is recruiting him the hardest, Williams has consistently said the Irish and reiterated that once again.

“It’s still Notre Dame,” Williams said. “I have the best relationship with those coaches and we talk all the time. I have really connected with them well and they have been the most consistent on me for sure.

“Notre Dame was the first school I locked in an office visit too and I was going to visit back in April before they moved the dead period. It’s just a good all around fit for me in terms of the culture and the strong academics they have as well as great football so I can’t wait to get out there.”

At one time, Williams said his plan was to commit before his senior year but he has decided to push that date back just a bit.

“I want to commit on September 7th,” Williams said. “That’s my mother’s birthday so that’s the plan right now and I think that should work out well for me.

    3COMMENTS
“It’s still early but late enough where, depending on the schedule, I could get an official visit on a game weekend in late August or that first weekend of September so we’ll see how it goes.”

Alabama, Stanford, UCLA and USC are all still involved in Williams’ recruitment as well.

BTW - Huffman (247's NW recruiting guru) still believes Tobias has ND and Stanford at the top...I think he's going to end up at ND

Vancouver (Wash.) Union receiver Tobias Merriweather has lined up his first official visit and he's Midwest bound.

"I set up my first visit and it's to Notre Dame on June 11th," said Merriweather.

For the Top100 receiver, it will be his first visit to South Bend since the fall of 2019, when he took an unofficial visit to a Notre Dame game and got to tour the campus and see the facilities, but didn't yet have an offer.

"I don't think this will be a 'see and experience' thing because I was able to see everything when I went out there," said Merriweather. "I was younger and they had their guys they were recruiting in the older classes and more involved with. So this will allow them to focus on me a little more."

Notre Dame has built a good rapport with Merriweather via receivers coach Delvaughn Alexander as well as head coach Brian Kelly.

"I talk to coach (Delvaughn) Alexander almost every day but he's not one of those coaches who blows my phone up, which I like," said Merriweather. "Coach Kelly hops on the Zoom every once in a while too."

The rest of the visits, he's likely leaving until the fall.

"I'm not sure where I'll take my other four visits, so that's half the reason why I've only scheduled Notre Dame," said Merriweather.

Tennessee, USC, Stanford, Washington State and UCLA are some of the schools he's still considering for those visits.

The Vols, though, are all but guaranteed to get one of those trips come fall.

"I am saving my some of my visits for fall and I know I want to go see Tennessee and go down and see a game this season," said Merriweather. "Coach Kodi Burns is the one recruiting me to Tennessee."

UCLA continues to stay involved in his recruitment with Jerry Neuheisel taking over his recruitment from Jimmie Dougherty.

"I like coach Neuheisel a lot, he's cool and he's a young guy so he's really relatable," said Merriweather. "He likes a lot of the things I like so we have a lot in common."

Across town, Keary Colbert is running point for the Trojans.

"Coach KC is a good guy," said Merriweather. "He offered me when I was younger and I visited campus and we have a good relationship."

Washington State is also trying to stay in the mix for Merriweather, with his former Union teammate Lincoln Victor, now a receiver for the Cougs, helping their efforts.

"I text with coach Rolo (Nick Rolovich) and coach Stutz (Craig Stutzmann) a lot but Lincoln hits me up all the time," said Merriweather.

Stanford has been considered the biggest contender for Merriweather in the Pac-12 and Bobby Kennedy continues to pursue Merriweather.

"Coach Kennedy is a cool guy and a really good coach and he has a lot of energy when we talk," said Merriweather. "I'm definitely planning to get down there to Stanford, we're just trying to see when."

A selection to play in both the 2022 All-American Bowl in San Antonio and the 2022 Polynesian Bowl in Hawaii, Merriweather said a decision might not come until San Antonio.

"I might commit at the All-American Bowl and sign in February," said Merriweather. "I'm not graduating early so I can wait."

Merriweather will return for his entire senior year so he can play basketball and track in separate seasons- right now, the compacted state of Washington schedule has him doing both hoops and track at the same time after a shortened junior football season.

A four-star in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, Merriweather is ranked as the No. 17 receiver nationally by the composite while 247Sports ranks him No. 10 and both have him as the No. 2 prospect in the state of Washington in 2022.

and remember, he chose to visit ND as his bday gift from his parents in Fall of 2019 so the interest is really legit...I believe he is a top 50 type player in this class

so first of all happy draft day fellas. Gonna put some props out here for y'all to go nuts on

over/under 1.5 ND players drafted first round (JOK for sure, Eicheberg seems the questionmark to me)
over/under 2.5 ND players drafted first 3 rounds (Tremble, Banks could sneak in there)
over/under 8.5 ND players drafted overall (Ade, Hayes and Hainsey feel very likely, kraemer, book, skoronek, McKinley, McCloud & Crawford all have a bit of a shot)

Ow its beyond nuts. They will get anything between 4(surtain, mac, waddle and smith feel like locks to me) to 8 (najee, leatherwood, dickerson and barmore could go rd1)

And whilst thr 8 first rounders would be a record this year doesnt really look like an outlier, its just that a bunch of guys are borderline first rounders instead of 2nd or 3rd rounders.

I agree with the likely ones you have and think it will be 10 drafted.
Kreamer gets drafted because he’s a ND lineman
Book will get drafted as a benefit from a huge run of QBs early
McCloud will get a look because of his speed
I’d say skoronek, McKinley and Crawford won’t but could slide in at the very end.

Under, but Eich goes top 12 in 2 .

Over. It's not a deep TE class so teams will take a chance on Tremble's blocking reputation and pure athleticism in hopes the receiving catches up. In fairness, he was immediately the #2 TE receiving option when Mayer stepped on campus and GMs know that and can't knock him for it. He's a good day 2 upside pick. Banks has the potential to be a long term starter in the NFL at OG and maybe a RT fill-in because he's more athletic than most guards. Plus the ND OL reputation, so easily within 3 rounds.

Under. Too many coin flips on gutlys who may or may not get drafted to feel good about the over. With no data to back it up, I feel like teams use more 6 and 7 round picks on potential diamonds in the rough with upside from smaller programs or guys slated for special teams roles than big school prospects who have plenty of tape against top competition who haven't shown themselves to be head and shoulders above. That said, I think a few of those will have a chance to stick in the league when given a chance.

id agree with the first 2 but i expect someone like book to be drafted late, just to be a very scheme versatile backup. I think he is the type of guy you want as a backup. His running skills could also make him a good practice week QB for guys like wilson and stuff like that so thats also nice. With Book drafted you are already at 8 and with McCloud running as fast as he did, Kraemer being a recruiting name and McKinley improving like he did last year i think there will be a late round flyer on one of em (would pick mccloud of those if i had to guess)

You may be correct on 3, but honestly, the difference between 6/7 versus undrafted is negligible when it come to chances of sticking in the league, so a couple of those guys might actually have just as good of a chance as UDFAs if they can sign with a team that presents the best opportunity.

I agree with McCloud having the best chance, and his pro day workouts certainly helped his case.

I think Book goes 6th or 7th, have seen him on a lot of mocks/projections it seems.

Listening to the South Bend Tribune podcast, it sounds like Archie Manning reached out to BK to see if ND is going to recruit Arch Manning. Tom Lemming was a guest on the podcast and suggested that ND is firmly in the mix. Was that info already out there in the world?

I could see the Mannings wanting him to go somewhere that maximizes their brand value and escaping the pressures and politics of the SEC.

Probably wouldn't follow Ewers to OSU. So I can see this being somewhere than an ND, USC, Texas, or Oklahoma could get involved

Yeah I have no idea if there's legs, but it sounded like Archie had proactively reached out to BK, which I thought was interesting.

Yeah the family won’t let him walk into a shitshow of an organization. They’ve already done it once

Haha it’s ok. If I still cared about the Chargers, I would still hold a grudge. But in the end they were right about the organization

stats wise for sure, but Eli has 2 rings and that's what matters most. I get a lot of that is team related but rings matter the most in the end.

If Tremble is getting drafted that high just for his aggressiveness, Botelho will go #1 overall
