Book panicked at the first hint of a pass rush in college. That’s happening literally every play in the NFL.
They think they can teach him to step up. Good luck. I love the guy for what he is but man that write up seems rosy.
and he doesn’t throw it unless a player is completely open and he has time to see it, that never happens in the nfl. You need to throw some guys open.
honestly feel like thats a great move for him. I expect him to be a day 1 starter there which does feel like a stretch at this point at ND. Hell, a better than expected season might get him drafted as a late round flyer
Quick reminder as we bitch about OL all summer A 5th yr SR guard just left ND where he was probably our 8th or 9th best OL and will start day one at another P5 team everything will be ok
Also apparently ND will have 4 1st round nfl talents on the field this year per all these reports and projections: Mayer, Patterson, Foskey, and Hamilton Shit Fisher looks like future first rounder lol at this team not being good
I think Foskey as a first rounder is a bit optimistic right now. Will he be as good as Julian Okwara, because he needs to get at least that to make it to the first round (his better size will make him go higher than Jules with equal production)
just to play devil’s advocate because this defensive coaching staff is way better but the 2016 team had 3 first rounder in it plus a lot of 2-5 round players. side note, how the hell did the cb position got so messed up that year. Nd had two soph and 5 freshmen.
Jimmy Dunne going to give the commencement address this year (in 12 days). Has to be the latest that's ever been announced and I'm guessing they had a hell of a time getting someone to commit. I think we would have traditionally invited President Biden, but that obviously wasn't possible this year.
I believe he used to play Signal Point Club when he was around but that place is basically a wildlife preserve now, it's pretty sad. We had some interesting names on the books when I worked there.
Super rich dude alum who should have died on 9/11 https://www.cigaraficionado.com/article/living-for-golf
Pretty cool. Melissa is about 1500 students. Look at their indoor facility. Sheesh Texas HS football. BTW yours truly will be on a phone call with Elston and Moon today. I'm part of our recruiting team and the HC asked me to take the call because he has some things to take care of with family.
Can i ask you to pass a few things along to elston so he can take it to Kelly? Just a few minor suggestions.
Robdog is a big timer now...don't forget to share all the inside scoops on the Team Board after the call
Prister's ranking the recruits Spoiler The following is Irish Illustrated’s rankings of Notre Dame’s 13 verbal commitments in the Class of 2022. With each player, we have listed his 247Sports composite ranking, his rank within the class by 247Sports and Irish Illustrated’s ranking within the class. In some instances, the disparity in rankings between 247Sports and Irish Illustrated are considerable. Our rankings should not be interpreted as final rankings. The senior seasons and their accompanying tape will determine our final rankings. As has always been the case with our In The Film Rooms, we base our opinion upon what our eyes see, not someone else’s interpretation. For example, we know that Massachusetts offensive tackle prospect Ty Chan has an outstanding frame with ample potential. He is a prime candidate to move up this list during his senior season, as is raw defensive end Darren Agu. But until we see it consistently, we will rank the players accordingly. 3* WR-AMORION WALKER (Photo: Andrew Ivins, 247Sports) • Ht./Wt.: 6-3, 178 • High School: Ponchatoula High School • Hometown: Ponchatoula, La. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 787 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 13th • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 13th • Commitment Date: March 10, 2021 (8th) • Prister’s Analysis: Amorion Walker a rangy, ultra-long-striding athlete with length beyond his 6-foot-3 height. Not a blazer – although reports of his speed offer a cross-section of opinions – but a loose, free-and-easy runner. Puts cornerbacks on the defensive off the football with those imposing strides. Consistently wins 50-50 balls. Offers a body type – and skillset – comparable to the mix of Will Fuller (a star) and Chris Brown (an accompanying piece), although unlikely to have that sort of burst. A five-year project. A natural W receiver in Notre Dame’s offense. Will not arrive to Notre Dame as a ready-made player. But the assets are there, including top-notch, less-than-90-degree route-cutting ability, which is a huge asset. 3* TE-ELI RARIDON Eli Raridon (Photo: Hudl) • Ht./Wt.: 6-6, 228 • High School: Valley High School • Hometown: Wes Des Moines, Iowa • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 437 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 11th • Irish Illustrated Ranking; 12th • Commitment Date: May 2, 2021 (12th) • Prister’s Analysis: Eli Raridon a developmental player with a high upside. A Tyler Eifert-like athlete entering his senior season of high school. Part wide receiver, part tight end. Better suited as a detached tight end because of that length/athleticism. Effortlessly snags the football out of the air with long hands/fingers. A surprisingly aggressive blocker, albeit one without the lower-body strength to move mountains. Uses quick feet and plenty of hand activity to make him a fairly difficult block from which to detach. Not every snap shows quick get-off, but he’s quick-twitch fast much of the time. Isn’t strong enough right now to break tackles. Needs to develop lower-body strength to create sharp-cutting routes. 4* OL-TY CHAN (Photo: 247Sports) • Ht./Wt.: 6-6, 275 • High School: Lawrence Academy • Hometown: Groton, Mass. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 209 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 4th • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 11th • Commitment Date: Dec. 10, 2020 (3rd) • Prister’s Analysis: Ty Chan great frame and a physical nature, which tends to shine through more at defensive end than offensive tackle at this stage of his development. Good knee bender. Drives with power. Needs to move his feet laterally in pass protection. Tends to get a bit “bottled up” in his pass pro and lacks width in his base. Needs to play consistently with his lower body underneath his pads. Love the aggression with which he plays defense, but probably not quick enough to play on that side of the ball in college. Still learning how to corral that ability on the offensive line. Committed to becoming a quality football player. Recent pictures show an impressive, chiseled frame sporting 304 pounds. This low(er) rating is more of a present-day analysis as opposed to where he can be. His best football is ahead of him. Would like to see consistent, dominant film. 4* QB-STEVE ANGELI (Photo: Brian Dohn, 247Sports) • Ht./Wt.: 6-3, 215 • High School: Bergen Catholic • Hometown: Oradell, N.J. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 230 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 7th • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 10th • Commitment Date: March 4, 2021 (7th) • Prister’s Analysis: Steve Angeli a diamond-in-the-rough in that his development is on a definite uptick, which prompted 247Sports to elevate him to four-star status. Still much to prove in order to play at the Notre Dame level. Loose-armed and mechanically-sound, over-the-top throwing motion. More technician than dynamic athlete with a big arm. Very quick from decision-to-throw-to-release. Shows the ability to throw on the run with accuracy. Has some elusiveness in the pocket while keeping his eyes downfield. Reads and sells the read-option well with an underrated ability to run the football while finishing off runs -- particularly around the goal line -- with some physicality. Still developing his overall strength and athleticism, but no glaring red flags. Hasn’t had a ton of opportunities on the high school level to show the ability to throw the deep ball or fit passes into tight windows. But the needle is pointing up entering his senior season of high school football. 4* LB-NOLAN ZIEGLER (Photo: Nolan Ziegler, 247Sports) • Ht./Wt.: 6-4, 215 • High School: Catholic Central • Hometown: Grand Rapids, Mich. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 317 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 10th • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 9th • Commitment Date: Aug. 22, 2020 (2nd) • Prister’s Analysis: Nolan Ziegler a sturdy, hard-hitting, explosive linebacker who has transitioned from safety. Lower-body strength with great propulsion. Sound technique in the squat rack has developed that explosion into ball carriers. Gobbles up ground in pursuit with active feet. A downhill linebacker who closes gaps quickly. Sifts (forces) his way through blocks with his high-level physical maturity. Won’t get juked off his mark. Holds his ground with no false steps. Bonus: a kick coverage demon who finds a path to the football. Realistically, a four-star talent at Mike or Buck linebacker. Football instincts remindful of Jack Kiser’s. Grandson of former Irish linebacker Tim Sullivan (1971-73). 3* DE-DARREN AGU (Photo: Michael Clark, 247Sports) • Ht./Wt.: 6-6, 225 • High School: Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School • Hometown: Rabun Gap, Ga. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 461 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 12th • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 8th • Commitment Date: April 9, 2021 (11th) • Prister’s Analysis: Darren Agu born in Ireland and living in England, Agu moved to the States and is just beginning to learn the American game. He is making rapid, remarkable strides – literally and figuratively. A raw player who is closing the gap on a weekly basis. Rated a three-star prospect who will be a four-star prospect in due time. Gallops around the football field with long, menacing strides. His footspeed is that of a smaller, shorter sprinter. Plays with controlled aggression. Excellent change of direction for such a hard-charger. Covers a huge portion of field width. Knows how to use his hands as weapons. Individual workouts show his ability to cut the edge with skill. Needs to work on pad level/knee bend. Wraps and pulls players to the ground fairly frequently, so he needs to improve his strength with his long frame. A prototypical Vyper end at Notre Dame. Potential is higher than this ranking. 4* RB-JADARIAN PRICE (Photo: Mike Roach, 247Sports) • Ht./Wt.: 5-11, 180 • High School: Denison • Hometown: Denison, Texas • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 220 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 5th • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 7th • Commitment Date: Feb 21, 2021 (6th) • Prister’s Analysis: Jadarian Price probably has a bit more size and athleticism than he’s given credit for, but his best football would appear to remain in front of him. Runs with exceptional pad level. Shows a nice north-south running attitude, but also has a good feel for when to use the width of the field. Offers the ability to catch the football facing the quarterback and then spinning and bursting upfield where he will, once again, play horizontally when the vertical path is clogged. Needs to continue to get stronger and show a willingness to take on tacklers head on. Very good but not great speed. Needs to trust his speed on long runs when defenders are in pursuit. There are other running backs out there that are better in a year when Notre Dame will sign two, but Price has the makings of a very good No. 2 or 1A. 4* CB-JADEN MICKEY (Photo: 247Sports) • Ht./Wt.: 5-11½, 175 • High School: Centennial High School • Hometown: Corona, Calif. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 227 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 6th • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 6th • Commitment Date: March 14, 2021 (9th) • Prister’s Analysis: Jaden Mickey plays cornerback with swagger/attitude and a high degree of physicality, throwing his slightly-built (but improving) frame into bigger, stronger opponents. Light on his feet, bouncy, yet physical. Excellent short-space quickness with pass-defense length, which makes him a prime nickel option in addition to cornerback. Really gets into the lower-body of opponent against the run. Some question regarding make-up speed on underthrown balls when opponent has a step on him. Has gotten away with some uncalled interference penalties early in his prep career, but better to be too physical than not physical enough. Five-star-level competitiveness. A talkative defender, which can lead to some issues. Will scratch and claw his way to making plays. Will bring a much-needed attitude of assuredness to the Irish secondary. 4* OL-JOEY TANONA (Photo: Steve Wiltfong, 247Sports) • Ht./Wt.: 6-5, 295 • High School: Zionsville • Hometown: Zionsville, Ind. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 166 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 3rd • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 5th • Commitment Date: July 25, 2020 (1st) • Prister’s Analysis: Joey Tanona is physically-mature at a young age with lower-body power, high-level leg drive and natural aggression. Shows quick-twitch ability off snap as run blocker. Actively takes on defenders and scrapes to the next level. Generally stays on his feet. Looks for additional block. Active with hands between the shoulder blades and fights to keep outside shoulder free when working the edge as run blocker. As a pass blocker, shows excellent set-up and wide base. Left tackle – where he played early in high school – would not be a good fit on the next level. Speed rushers would give him trouble. Moved to center his junior year. Could be a right tackle at Notre Dame, but much more likely an interior offensive lineman. 4* TE-HOLDEN STAES (Photo: Rusty Mansell, 247Sports) • Ht./Wt.: 6-4, 230 • High School: Westminster School • Hometown: Atlanta, Ga. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 268 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 8th • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 4th • Commitment Date: May 8, 2021 (13th) • Prister’s Analysis: Holden Staes an extremely inviting target with a massive catch radius. Appears open – even when he’s not – because he has the physical assets to win most 50-50 balls. Catches the football with clamps and pillow-sized hands. A seam-route dream for quarterbacks because he can reach anything within the area code. Plays longer than his listed height. Will lunge occasionally as a blocker, but makes himself very difficult to get off block with arms and legs in rapid-fire attack mode. For a player of his size, a quality knee-bender. Corralling him by attacking his upper-body is extremely difficult. Because of his length, he’s vulnerable to getting tripped up in the open field. Further hip/leg strength will help him power through some of those tackle attempts. Listed as the 10th best tight end in the country, it’s difficult to imagine there are nine that are better than this rising prospect. There can’t be. 4* DE-AIDEN GOBAIRA (Photo: Hudl) • Ht./Wt.: 6-6, 235 • High School: Chantilly • Hometown: Chantilly, Va. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 292 • 247Sports Ranking Among 13 Commitments: 9th • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 3rd • Commitment Date: Feb. 6, 2021 (5th) • Prister’s Analysis: Aiden Gobaira a real diamond in the rough who didn’t have a fall junior season, but dominated during the spring competition. Absolutely dominated. Possesses a real red-meat-chasing mentality/desire. Outstanding length and fast around the edge. Comes out of two-, three- and four-point stances spring-loaded. Uses a violent right-hand swipe to get around left tackles, and then shows closing speed with his length. Also can be very good against the run. Takes good pursuit angles. Shows very good change of direction for his length and will hold his ground to avoid over-committing. He just started putting on substantial weight on his frame, so he’ll be growing into his body for quite some time. Likely a Vyper with Agu. 4* OLB-JOSHUA BURNHAM Joshua Burnham (Photo: Allen Trieu, 247Sports) • Ht./Wt.: 6-4, 215 • High School: Central High School • Hometown: Traverse City, Mich. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 114 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 1st • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 2nd • Commitment Date: March 17, 2021 (10th) • Prister’s Analysis: Joshua Burnham a multi-faceted football player who rules the defensive side with an iron fist. Unmistakable physical maturity. A natural athlete with sideline-to-sideline presence. Drives to and through intended target with a powerful thrust of the shoulder. Creates a wall when he arrives at the ball carrier. Single-handedly gums up the works between the tackles with a sledgehammer mentality. A quality knee-bender with low pad level and square tackling set-up. Versatility allows him to align on multi-levels and widths of the field. A natural inside linebacker with off-the-edge ability. Gives defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman great flexibility to bring pressures from Burnham on the inside and outside. A legit candidate to play any of the linebacker positions. Has to be careful about lowering his head when tackling. 4* DE-TYSON FORD Tyson Ford (Photo: Brice Marich, 247Sports) 10 COMMENTS • Ht./Wt.: 6-5, 245 • High School: John Burroughs School • Hometown: St. Louis, Mo. • 247Sports Composite Ranking: 123 • 247Sports Rank Among 13 Commitments: 2nd • Irish Illustrated Ranking: 1s • Commitment Date: Jan. 18, 2021 (4th) • Prister’s Analysis: Tyson Ford a multi-skilled football player with an exceptional motor, a refusal to stay blocked, outstanding length (arms and legs) and physical development. Shows a relentless nature and great love for competition and contact. Splits double-teams with violent use of hands as well as swim and dip-and-rip moves. Uses hands with the speed of a boxer’s punching flurry. Has worked out of a two- and three-point stance with the latter a locked-and-spring-loaded form. Opponents feel his impending arrival. Plays with a nasty streak. Wants to punish. Also shows pass-rushing technique of extending his arms and making it difficult to throw over him. One glaring weakness – pad level – was essentially corrected between his sophomore and junior seasons. Not a five-star, but a four-star-plus. A Big end with the frame to cross-train as a three-technique.
My personal rankings are below. It's crazy tough since some of these guys have such little film because of Covid and some of these guys have such high upside they could legit be the #1 and #2 players (Agu and Chan) in the class after their careers are finished at ND. Also senior film of some of these kids might be nuts. I could see Tyson pushing for top 50 or maybe even 5* status and same for Gobaira. Mickey might be a top 100 type player and Raridon could take a huge leap to top 100 if he keeps growing and developing. 1. Tyson Ford (Top 50-100) 2. Aiden Gobaira (Top 100) 3. Burnham (Top 100) 4. Joey Tanona (Top 100) 5. Jaden Mickey (Top 150) 6. Holden Staes (Top 150) 7. Jadarian Price (Top 200) 8. Eli Raridon (Top 200) 9. Ty Chan (Top 250 as of now) 10. Darren Agu (Top 250 as of now) 11. Nolan Ziegler (Top 200) 12. Angeli (Low end 4*) 13. Amorion Walker (3*)
Just got off phone I'll update team board shortly. I dont have a bat signal but if I did I'd post it now
I pissed off a couple of UCF guys in the transfer thread and said maybe Kelly was right and he just wasn’t that good. Of course we’ll get a bowl matchup and he’ll go for 13-200 3 tds
After getting possibly the worst non targeting call I think I have ever seen and having to leave football because of it, this is good to see.
