why are they doing this? i was just listening to a podcast saying nd is not hungry for money when it comes to tv contracts. They must've worked something out with nbc to start that shift?
yeah i would assume NBC is driving this more than ND. There's a certain NBC employee who will be getting a piece of my mind as soon as he gets home from Japan
So we sign up for one month at like $10 and cancel? Stinks but as long as we don't have to pre-pay annual, etc. I won't be too upset about this.
It’s nbc that’s pushing it for sure. This is likely replacing the one game on nbcsn that was part of the contract since that channel is being discontinued. for those in the states, if you have Comcast, you have peacock premium so you’re set. If not, yeah sign up for a free week then cancel
i saw this question elsewhere, but i think it's a good question, better tandem for ND - Styles and Colzie or Tobias and CJ? out of the 4, i'd rank them in this order: 1. Tobias 2. Styles 3. CJ 4. Colzie I think all are top 100 level talents and with Tobias being top 50. For the record, I have Styles right around 50 as well. I'd take the Tobias/CJ combo but those are all great great talents IMO. In 2023, we could be looking at 4 WR sets with all 4 on the field at the same time catching passes from a Junior Buchner behind an oline of Fisher, Rocco, Tanona, Scrauth (hoping he commits), and Tosh. We will obviously have elite level TE play and our RBs look pretty darn good too. That's elite level offensive talent.
Colzie is getting the can’t miss talk about his performance so far so I think as far as production he will be up there
assuming we get CJ and Tobias, my ranking of the recruits as of today 1 Jaylen Sneed (Top 30) 2 Tobias Merriweather (Top 50) 3 Tyson Ford (Top 50-100) 4 Aiden Gobaira (Top 100) 5 Burnham (Top 100) 6 CJ Williams (Top 100) 7 Joey Tanona (Top 100) 8 Devin Moore (Top 100) 9 Jaden Mickey (Top 150) 10 Ben Morrison (Top 150) 11 Holden Staes (Top 150) 12 Junior (Top 150) 13 Jadarian Price (Top 200) 14 Eli Raridon (Top 200) 15 Ty Chan (Top 250 as of now) 16 Nolan Ziegler (Top 200) 17 Angeli (Low end 4*) 18 Ashton Craig (Low 4*) 19 Jayden Bellamy (Low 4*) 20 Amorion Walker (High 3*) 21 Donovan Hinish (High 3*)
sheesh, all these guys have already been invited to All American games Niuafe Tuihalamaka Joshua Burnham Tyson Ford Joey Tanona Ty Chan Steve Angeli (UA) Devin Moore Amorion Walker (UA) Jaylen Sneed (UA) CJ Williams Tobias Merriweather
it’s kind of neat when you look at the bottom of this list and see a lot of potential and some pretty good players. The depth is better than i can remember since following this team and it’s probably(recruiting can be a crapshoot) going to only get better with this class and next year’s class
If the WRs and corners even come close to the optimism, we'll have something. QB is QB, but those were the two spots where we really got outclassed in recent postseason appearances.
I have them 1. Colzie 2. CJ 3. Styles 4. Tobias Colzies film was good, but compettion was just ok, not an elite league in GA. But he did what he should against the competition. If you look at numbers and care about that stuff Colzie is ahead of everyone. Size and athleticism is off the chart. For those who dont know Colzie has a verified 4.49 forty at 6'3 215. At the opening in 2019 when he was only 15 years old he ran a 4.56 and had a 37 inch vert. On top of that hes an elite high jumper. Hes also posted a 10.82 100m in high school track as a Sr, Braden Lenzy in the state 100m as a Sr had a time of 10.76.
How's this high-rated WR commit going to fizzle out? Loses half a finger in a fishing accident? Sits behind a converted safety and then transfers to be with Jay Brunelle? Suspended for a season for talking shit about amy Coney barrett? Lmao sorry for the extremely cynical post. Hope he balls out
Prister's film review of Tobias Spoiler Boy did Notre Dame -- particularly Notre Dame’s offense -- need this one. Tobias Merriweather, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound wide receiver out of Union High School in Camas, Wash., is the crown jewel of Notre Dame’s 2022 offensive recruiting efforts thus far with his recent verbal commitment to the Irish over Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA, USC and Washington State. This is a unique athlete with extraordinary size/length and pass-catching ability. My first instinct when seeing his No. 126 composite ranking is that 247Sports’ No. 76 slotting is the more accurate assessment. This guy’s length and effortless strides stand out, as do the size of his hands and the clampdown ability he has with the football. It’s impressive how much he trusts his hands to do his work as opposed to using his body to help pin his catches. He swallows the football with his hands and only uses his body when the type of throw dictates it. By catching the football so demonstrably with his hands, he shortens the length of throws and limits the defender’s chance for a pass breakup. Merriweather has an excellent get-off from a variety of spots in trips formations within the Union High School offense. One doesn’t normally associate a player of Merriweather’s length aligning from a slot position, which he does frequently for the Titans. They’ll let him fold under the two other receivers in trips, which helps free him up from coverages. Merriweather gets into his long, loping, effortless stride quickly and glides around the football field. He sets up/sells his cuts well with loose hips that allow him to catch defensive backs out of sequence with their footwork. He’s not a burner per say – mid 4.5s at a Clemson Pro Day -- but with his length, he doesn’t have to be. Merriweather is a great athlete with the ability to twist and turn to make catches. He’s a back-shoulder nightmare for defensive backs because of his ability to make contortionist-like moves in his routes. He times his jumps on 50-50 balls and shows the knack of high-pointing the football. The catch radius that Merriweather possesses plays extremely well within the shadow of the goal post. Combine that with his clamps for hands and stopping Merriweather becomes extremely problematic. In 10 games as a sophomore, he averaged 4.3 catches per game and 17.8 yards per reception. The pandemic limited his junior season to just four games, but he was one catch shy of averaging six grabs per game. Of his 66 catches in the last two seasons, 10 have gone for touchdowns. It’s unusual for a 6-foot-4 player to return kicks, but he had a 90-yarder as a junior and shows some wiggle. With a track and basketball background – his sisters Dai’Lyn and Jai’Lyn run track for Oklahoma -- there is a ton to like about Merriweather’s game. He is a Tee Higgins-like receiver with those long, aesthetic strides that strike fear into the hearts of defensive backs. 9COMMENTS It’s a bit surprising that Merriweather’s offer list was so Pac-12/West Coast oriented. He’s from that area of the country, so offers from the entire conference were not surprising. Yet only Notre Dame, Tennessee, Michigan and Nebraska seriously pursued him east of the Rockies. His two sisters proved they would venture away from the upper Northwest. Merriweather is a Deion Colzie-like catch for Notre Dame with more burst and wiggle. he's not the only person comparing him to Tee Higgins either
New TE offer. He might be our next 2023 commit https://247sports.com/player/cooper-flanagan-46099586/
Amorion Walker update from Loy Spoiler Ponchatoula (La.) high school three-star receiver Amorion Walker committed to Notre Dame back on March 10. In our opinion, it was a very nice win for the Fighting Irish coaching staff including receivers coach Del Alexander and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, because those at Irish Illustrated have called Walker one of the most underrated and under-recruited talents in the Southeast this cycle. "It's just a good fit," Walker said at the time to 247Sports National Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong. "I love the coaching staff. I was talking to them for a while. I wanted to be the first receiver in the class too. They have a good community, everyone I spoke with the Notre Dame community was welcoming and you can tell you're going to make lifelong friends along the way." Following that pledge, the 6-4, 175-pounder looked locked in with his decision. He was an active recruiter for the Irish as well. However, things started taking a slightly odd turn when he reporting new offers, taking visits elsewhere and doing things that most commits don’t typically do. On June 4, Walker made his way to Oxford to check out Ole Miss with some teammates. According to a report from Rebels247, our 247Sports Ole Miss affiliate, Walker was quoted as saying, "They have definitely gained some ground in my recruiting process,” when referencing the Rebels. On June 14, Walker announced an offer from Alabama following a camp workout in Tuscaloosa. The next day, he reported a Michigan offer. On June 21, LSU became the latest school to offer, which according to reports, came after a workout in Baton Rouge in front of the Tigers staff. Then in late June, Walker took his official visit to Notre Dame. The trip couldn’t have gone better. Walker spent a ton of time with Alexander, Rees and head coach Brian Kelly. Following the visit, we reported that the staff felt great about Walker sticking with his commitment and everyone in South Bend expected him to ink with the Irish following trips elsewhere. 7COMMENTS However, last weekend Irish Illustrated was told by a source in Ann Arbor that Walker visited the University of Michigan. Our Michigan 247Sports affiliate reported the same. That, from what we’ve learned, caught the Notre Dame staff off guard and they didn’t know that was going to take place. However, they have never once told Walker he couldn’t take visits. The staff understands that the pandemic created a unique recruiting experience and despite not loving their commits visiting other schools, they aren’t having the usual “you’re ether in or your out” type of conversations. They understand these are challenging times and want the student-athletes to enjoy their recruitments, but obviously end up in South Bend with the Irish when all is said and done. All that said, coming out of this latest trip to Michigan, confidence remains high at Notre Dame that Walker will eventually shut down his recruitment at end up with the Fighting Irish when it comes time to put pen to paper. From what we’ve been told, he prefers a future at receiver, not defensive back, and sees a bright one ahead under Alexander and Rees. According to sources, he has been nothing but positive and upbeat about his future in South Bend and he continues to say all of the right things to the staff. Obviously anything can happen and things can change, but feedback has been very good and positive every step of the way.
i've said it before and i'll say it again, take 2 top TEs every year and let them battle it out. Best ones play, the other can transfer after 3 years getting a ND degree and excellent TE coaching they can take to their next school. Nothing wrong w/ this plan at all
of the 4 TEs post Mayer's class, I think Raridon has the heighest ceiling by far. Eifert like ceiling. Staes has the safest floor. Mitch Evans is the real wild card. He's gotten rave reviews since spring. Berrong is a little bit of an unknown in our offense. He doesn't have Tremble like size and he's not the giant TE like Raridon. Not quite sure how he'll be utilized in our offense. Ranking the TEs as recruits, I'd have it: Raridon Mitch Staes Berrong
I don’t think we’ve really had a TE in the mold of Berrong lately either. He’s more of a move TE, just 6’3”, but catches the ball wayyyyyyy better than Tremble does. He’s going to seemingly be a big body slot guy — interested to see how Rees continues to change the offense. I remember reading somewhere that his showed off amazing hands and a solid catch radius in the spring. Having both of the TEs enroll early was massive for competition for seemingly the 3rd spot.
