Looks like he named a top 5 of Ohio State, St. John's, Virginia, West Virginia and Xavier a couple months before he eventually committed but I have no idea if that was before or after said ND commitment
He was suspended for 1 game in January but otherwise started something like 50-60 games for them his first 2 years I think.
Watching the 93 Pitt game in the background. How did we live in a world where the box score was not always on the screen. Also have classic NASCAR on, shit was still in SD in 2003. I could have sworn we had HD my senior year of HS.
I remember HD coming around right around then. I remember seeing a random NFL game in HD at s bar and it was like I was seeing football for the first time
Looked it up, it was 03 we got VOOM though Dish that was 21 HD channels of shit but it was HD shit. the Super Bowl in 2000 was the first national broadcast
I remember Randy Moss missing out on ND because his situation. I had no idea about Iverson https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sp...-after-high-school/1vn0x8oxow9ff19axjdu5l75gk
Spoiler I put in a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction for Notre Dame to land a commitment from Matthews (N.C.) Matthews five-star running back Will Shipley back on Oct. 13, 2019. Irish Illustrated and 247Sports want to take a look at where things stand regarding this prediction and whether we should “Like It, Love It, Leave it.” Like It. This is a very tough one to call at this point, because there are some factors in play regarding the 5-11, 200-pounder from the class of 2021. In full transparency, I’m closer to “Leaving It” than “Loving It,” if that makes sense. We’ll go with “Like It” for now. However, for Irish fans, not all hope is lost by any stretch. First, let’s get one thing out of the way. Despite some heavy-hitters still in play like Stanford, North Carolina, North Carolina State and others, I see this as a two-team race between Notre Dame and Clemson. I’ve felt this way for months. I can’t see any situation where Shipley ends up at any other program. 89COMMENTS Regarding his decision, I really believe his recruitment will come down to whether or not he returns to South Bend one more time before announcing his commitment. He was going to visit Notre Dame for the big recruiting weekend from March 20-22 and I genuinely believe that was set to be a game-changer for the Fighting Irish. I think it would have been tough for him to be around running backs coach Lance Taylor, head coach Brian Kelly, offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, a few friends and Notre Dame commits in Tyler Buchner and Blake Fisher for a few days and not decide to play for the Fighting Irish. That said, Shipley says he wants to visit before making his commitment, which is a good sign for Notre Dame. However, it seems as though Clemson would be the pick if he decided today. This decision is weighing heavily on Shipley’s mind, as he surely doesn’t look forward to saying no to either coaching staff. Notre Dame is starting to line up June official visits with hopes that recruiting trips begin again that month. If the Irish want to land him, he needs to be on campus that month. The staff has him as priority No. 1 on the offensive side of the ball, isn't recruiting him just as a want, but rather a need, and is hoping that the blend of athletics and academics, strong relationships, along with early playing time, ends up securing a commitment from Shipley down the road. in the end, sounds like Loy has been setting it up that Shipley is not going to ND it's a bit odd, Shipley has told both ISD and IrishIllustrated that he fully intends to visit ND again before deciding so it seems like there is conflicting info
I saw a quote on twitter teasing some article that was something along the lines of "I'm not going to decide without visiting ND again - I wouldn't do that to Coach Taylor." Which to me means ND trails.
i think most agree that we trail at this point w/o him visiting in March, we lost all momentum. Loy also commented in the thread that all this coronavirus stuff has made him really think about distance from home and that's probably the case for a lot of kids
OSU just got a top 100 RB commit from North Carolina a couple weeks ago. I doubt a ton of these kids are saying "because a once in a lifetime global pandemic, I can't go to school a short flight away from my parents" - I still don't buy that. I think we just don't want to admit Clemson is the more attractive option for him and Covid or not, he was probably going to go there and a lot of these kids are just picking better options for them. It's harder to admit we're still not attractive - or the staff doesn't work hard enough depending on who you ask - to land these type of players.
I don't think anyone would disagree that Clemson and Ohio St (and UGA and Bama) are recruiting at a much higher level right now than ND. Pretty much all of those schools are better football options than ND as well. I also think it's pretty clear ND put all their eggs in 1 massive basket for the March 20 recruiting weekend and got burned, really really badly. I don't think anyone could have predicted that EVERYTHING would get shut down in March like it did but that's the way it works sometimes. ND got lucky to get Abiara to visit 5 days after he was offered in late Jan and eventually landed a commitment from him Shipley got to visit Clemson at the end of Jan and had a ton of momentum after the visit. Many reported they were the outright leaders for him. ND needed the March to turn the tide and it didn't happen. I think some coaches aren't as good as other coaches at recruiting on the ND staff but Lance Taylor literally did all he could to let Shipley know that he was the #1 guy on the entire board and they treated him that way the entire time. Taylor is basically the only thing keeping Shipley from committing to Clemson right now. We'll obviously see what happens with Shipley and recruiting as a whole going forward but March and April sucked for ND recruiting more than almost any other school.
all the ND twitters are posting about this, so it got me thinking who's the greatest player in the history of ND football?
The greatest player to play at ND? Montana or Alan Page The greatest player while at ND? Lujack, Hornung, Browner, Lattner or Brown
Harrison Smith has been the best safety in the league for a while, not in the conversation but just saying quenton Nelson might win this if he keeps this up, joe Montana will be hard to beat since he is a qb. But if Nelson is the best guard for 10 years in the nfl he should be seen as the best nd player ever. No?
Looking at what Montana and Page did, Nelson would have to essentially be the best OL in the league for a decade + and win multiple titles to be in the conversation.
Read a little of the snippets about keeping the team moving forward despite the shut down and all I could think is that there is no way Kevin Austin passes a drug pass after being home for four months.
He's better off in Florida than Northern Indiana where Rec Weed is legal just a few miles away I guess?
luckily he is not a running back or he wouldve been caught stealing sweat pants by driving his truck drunkinly naked through a flower bed
increased my holdings to four season tickets. looking forward to giving clemson fans an opportunity visit our stadium.
Pretty happy that if we get our ticket app in by the first we are guaranteed two tickets to Lambeau, no lottery for season holders this time.
Tickets for that game look crazy. Was thinking about having my bachelor party there that weekend, but couldn’t expect people to shell out that kind of money.
Don't worry. ND embroidered Masks and gold latex gloves will be on the market soon. They will be standard updated entry.
Well, sounds like they're throwing the kitchen sink at him but he's probably going to commit to Clemson soon anyway was my takeaway from that article. Think it's very bad if he commits prior to getting on campus this summer. If it's that close, why wouldn't he just wait to see ND? No school in the country is going to pass on holding a spot for him.
Looking like Trey Wertz might end up here. That's a good 2 year rental to play with "the class" for Brey
Getting Wertz over UNC, Arizona, and OSU would be a pretty great pick-up for Brey. That '21-'22 team could be pretty dynamic if players pan out.
