The OL was always going to take a step back after replacing McGlinchy and Nelson. Heistand had his hands on Eichenberg and Kraemer so Quinn isn't alone in blame for them not being at the same level as their predecessor.
yeah pass blocking was fine. Run blocking was a bit meh but still not awful. Basically the #4 rushing season in the last decade after 2017, 2015 and 2012. Still should be able to do better than 4.4 a pop. Still I'd be fine if next year we "only" do about 4.9 yards a pop, which is not impressive, if the improvement at least shows in the worst performances. You have to get back to 2014 and the ASU and Michigan game for the team to have put up decent point totals with the running game not contributing much of anything
Speaking of the OL... Good article here: https://www.18stripes.com/what-the-heck-happened-to-the-notre-dame-offensive-line-2018/
so i finally worked up the courage to rewatch the first half of the clemson game. While they weren't setting the world on fire, i thought the oline played pretty well considering they were playing the best defensive line in the country (by far). Book had time to make almost all of his throws, he just was gun shy or was too rattled to make an accurate throw. seriously, oline looked pretty decent i hate to beat a dead horse, but Book was absolutely awful in that first half - the fumble on the 2nd drive, the rushed throws that were way off target, not throwing the ball out on time. It was really really bad. if he plays a half way decent game in the first half, that game game should be no more than a 7 point game going into half time even w/ Julian Love being hurt Also, the ND defense looked so good in the first quarter. It's clear how much losing Love and Okwara hurt the team. Losing them in game like that really messed up the defensive gameplan in the 2nd quarter
the ending of the NFL season has blunted my senses enough that rewatching that mess doesnt even sound like that much of an ordeal anymore
Which is nuts, considering decision making and calm under pressure are kind of his calling card. Of all the games to have it come up, right?
Good point. For USC, the injured ribs narrative was still out there, so there wasn't as much concern. Georgia will be interesting. That's one word for it, anyway.
What are the best Nd football podcasts and college football podcast out there? I need to get some more of them, Thanks!
The only ND podcast I regularly listen to is the Irish Illustrated one. As far as general CFB podcasts: the audible, the solid verbal, and the CFB Experience.
Agree with this. Irish illustrated is king. Pod of gold seems interesting, but I haven't listened that much yet
I am completely on board with Jurk being the QB next year, but Kelly's loyalty is his biggest weakness, so my hopes are near zero, even if Jurk is as good as advertised. It's a shame we didn't get 3 blowouts early on to see what he could do.
is this narrative still true? BK benched Wimbush last year for Book. I could see it happening again if Book doesn't progress like he should.
i will also say that BK now knows he's basically a really good QB away from truly competing w/ Clemson and Bama based on the playoff game. That clemson game should have been soooo much closer if Book plays better. I think it would be a legit 4th quarter game.
I’m not jumping to Jurk yet. Book spent a month reading about how he was going to get murdered. It got to him. The coaches should have done more to help him. The SI cover shit didn’t help. I think he’ll be fine.
Disagree, they’ve done such a good job that they want to contain folks to their wonderfully warm dorms.
we closed during the last polar vortex or whatever, but i think this will be the 2nd time in 20 years?
I rotate papn the solid verbal and the shutdown fullcast for cfb. Papn is the best one. Sf the most goofy. Sv the most espn like
As good as advertised? He looked like shit in the Army game and then he showed up on campus and they instantly overhauled his mechanics. Now they are at the point where reportedly he is what he is and are going to leave his mechanics alone. I know his hype as a recruit was big but nothing since he's stepped foot on campus suggests he is anywhere close to unseating Book.
Makes Sense. My dad's policy is if ND is closed Ideal is closed, only happened once in my time there, so that makes sense.
It's looking like CB's for Turner are coming in for Washington. They are VIP but there are 3 public CB's for ND, so the VIP must be for Washington based on the % stated
Yeah. Pass blocking was fine. We had rushing issues because we didn't have a mobile QB. Remember we tried keeping Brandon in the pocket the first few games. Also didn't have dex early on. Which btw he did great in the senior bowl. I think he can get drafted round 3 now. That would be awesome. Also we lost 3 starters. There has to be some drop off. Imo they just need more time for them to gel. So maybe hold up on tar and feathering Quinn.
I do love that ESPN was going crazy over Duke not being able to hit the 3, they open with 2 3's. Awesome.
So start punching them in the face, just act like you didn't mean to. I like this plan. Worked for Duke.
