Chris Tyree announcing in May now From reading the tea leaves from mods, it sounds like he may be a silent to ND
Good. Good. I think the II guys also just took their CB's off Tirek Murphy, which would seem consistent with Tyree being on board in a one-RB class.
Just curious how this class will end up. Like taking just a few OL but hope we can get some dbs and lbs
i don't think LB is the concern here...CB for sure and safety to a degree. I think the coaches want to see what they have when the freshmen get on campus to see how hard they will push for a LB. I do like Cody Simon a lot though - as an inside LB, he will be better than his brother i think, he's just more natural there
I still think you take 2 rbs this class if they are talented. I would pull back to 3 OL since next year is loaded there and 3 WR seems to be where things are looking Dream scenario QB Pyne RB Tyree, Murphy or other big back WR Johnson, Henning, Redding TE Mayer, Bauman OL Baker, Zinter, Carmody DL Ehrenberger, Keanaanina, Bothelo, McGregor, Mills LB Simon CB Phillips, Jenkins S ?? (1 for the class) LS Peitsch Edit: Shit, forgot Mills. That's still 21. A little tougher but cut some dead weight.
My Dream scenario 1 QB Pyne 2 RB Tyree, Murphy or Trayanum or Kyle Edwards (any of these 3 big backs would be a big win) 3 WR Johnson, Henning, Jalen McMillan 2 TE Mayer, Bauman 2 OL Baker, Carmody 5 DL Ehrenberger, Keanaanina, Bothelo, McGregor, Mills 1 LB Simon 5 DB CP3, Lovie, Bartleson, 1 of Morant/Kristian Story/Ransom, Clarence Lewis (new offer), 1 unknown 1 LS Peitsch 1 Athlete Cullen Coleman - RB/Drop/LB This is a class of 23. I know that number seems big but guys are going to transfer/medical/draft/kicked out. It's going to happen. Coach D predicted a class of 22 or 23 just yesterday. I think of class of 2 OL is very possible. I think it's also possible Cullen is considered the #2 RB in this class and we don't take any of the other ones and then he gets moved down the road to Defense The keys in this class are Baker (done), Mills (done), Tyree (we are the leader), and CP3 (we are top 2 but trailing depending on who you ask - Christian McCollum thinks we lead and he's put in a prediction for ND). Would be nice and potential difference makers but wouldn't kill us if we didn't get - McGregor (leader), Henning (leader), McMillan (probably top 3), 1 of the 3 safeties (don't lead for any of them though) Assuming we get Baker, Mills, Tyree, and an elite CB and fill out the rest of the class pretty well, I think this will be far and away the best class ND has signed under BK. Best balance of top end talent and filling needs and quality depth Potential Top 100 guys for me: Pyne Mayer Baker Tyree Jordan Johnson Henning McMillan/Xavier Watts Bothelo McGregor Mills Cody Simon CP3 Any of the 3 safeties That's 13 total guys with top 100 type talent. I get not all of them will land in the top 100, but I feel they have the talent to be and wouldn't be surprised if most of those guys end up top 100 on someone's list by the end of the year To break it down even further - guys I think have 5* type talent - Mayer, Baker, Tyree, Bothelo, McGregor, CP3
It will be interesting to see how they finish the OL class. Zinter is so stiff I wouldn’t mind them just passing on him all together. Skoronski was a massive miss With the way DL recruiting is trending, I wonder if they look at Ehrensberger as an OT
Isn't he the one who almost committed to Oklahoma a couple weeks ago? Isn't it bad that he's announcing so soon before he goes back to ND?
everyone (all mods on all sites) believe that visit wore off and his parents made him slow down regarding OK. Tyree knows what is available to him at ND (playing time, education, OL) and he's on board. He's ready to commit because he doesn't see anyone other school beating what ND has total package wise
some pretty high praise for Cody Simon from Holland after seeing him in person this week Spoiler Blue & Gold Illustrated was on the scene in New Jersey for the Rivals Challenge over the weekend. Here are our final thoughts from the camp. 1. Pyne checks boxes — Going into yesterday’s camp, I received some mixed reviews about Notre Dame quarterback commit Drew Pyne . A lot of the discussion centered around his height. Normally, I’m not high on short quarterbacks either unless they are electric with their legs, but Pyne was super impressive and has me on the boat. The camp MVP at his position, Pyne started off slow before putting on an impressive throwing display in pouring rain. Pyne threw a beautiful deep ball and had nice touch on his passes. He is very mechanically sound and uses his lower body extremely well. Pyne has a high floor with the potential to be a multi-year starter for the Irish. 2. Brunelle deserving of an offer? — It’s no secret that the aforementioned Pyne has a rapport with three-star wide receiver Jay Brunelle . The two hooked up all camp long for some impressive plays, and Pyne expressed to me that he would love to see the Irish jump in the mix for him. Brunelle does a nice job of high pointing the ball, is an excellent red zone target and has adequate speed for his size. If he performs well at Irish Invasion, an offer could ultimately come his way. And I would see no issue with it. Brunelle is solid overall. - NATIONAL 10 STATE - POSITION JAY BRUNELLE RANK 5.5 6'2" | 200 LBS | WR SAINT JOHNS SHREWSBURY, MA CLASS OF 2020 UNDECIDED 3. Dominant performance — I can’t say enough about what four-star linebacker Cody Simon did over the weekend. While he didn’t go through a lot of traditional linebacker camp drills due to weather, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more dominant performance from a linebacker in 1-on-1’s against pass catchers. I’ve covered athletic backers like Malik Jefferson (Cincinnati Bengals) and Kenneth Murray (OU’s star in the middle) and Simon was more impressive in this type of setting. He is a must land for Notre Dame. - NATIONAL 10 STATE 9 POSITION CODY SIMON RANK 5.8 6'2" | 215 LBS | ILB ST. PETER'S PREP JERSEY CITY, NJ CLASS OF 2020 UNDECIDED 4. What to do with Large — As I mentioned in my observations, I fully agree with Notre Dame’s evaluation of Cam Large . While all schools other than ND like him as a tight end, the Irish want him on the defensive side of the ball. Large is a well-put together kid and made some really athletic plays while exclusively playing tight end. But he’s not a natural route runner or pass catcher. If he adds some good weight, Large’s highest ceiling is at defensive end. 5. Underclassmen — On the defensive side of the ball, 2022 linebacker Tyler Martin showed traits of an elite level linebacker. He already has a handful of Power Five offers and could be the best in the country at his position when it’s all said and done. Martin needs to continue to work on shaping his body, but he was super impressive in drills. Rising 2021 running back Johnny Martin turned some heads at the camp. He was lightning quick and won a lot of his 1-on-1 reps.
We are adding to bodies in May and not sending them away for sweatpants. I like this. The DL is gonna be damn good for some time to come.
Tosh Baker should be next by the end of the week. They had a big showcase with multiple schools in AZ coming together to do some workouts. Holland was there along with Quinn and Del Alexander (ND coaches) to watch. Holland took some videos and Tosh is just massive and he dominated. I'd love to see how he looks against elite edge rushers. Maybe he makes it out to the west coast "opening" regionals later this month. From a measurables and movement standpoint, he seriously looks like he could be a top 10 pick in the draft when he goes. I'm not sure I would pick any other OT over him in the 2020 class and I think his ceiling is higher than NPF from 2 years ago. Kid is a true 5*
I am guessing Baker committed to Quinn last night in person and will announce publicly tomorrow or Thursday From Holland's visit yesterday Spoiler Here are some things I picked up during my stop at Pinnacle yesterday. *** Four-star Pinnacle (Ariz.) offensive lineman Tosh Baker could be nearing a decision. After talking to Baker, it is very clear that Notre Dame has the edge at this point in his recruitment, and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Irish close the deal. Baker has a great relationship with the coaching staff and was blown away on his spring unofficial visit to South Bend. In fact, I’m not sure there is a close second to Notre Dame right now. The Irish have done a masterful job of recruiting Baker and those around him. *** Speaking of Notre Dame’s efforts on the Baker front, it was pretty awesome to have a bird’s eye view of the way they recruit as both Jeff Quinn and Del Alexander were in attendance at yesterday’s spring showcase. There were around 50 college coaches from around the country, and Notre Dame was the last out of the building. Pinnacle literally shut off the lights, and both Quinn and Alexander stayed behind to talk to Baker’s high school coach. Quinn spent the entire day at Pinnacle, and Alexander is very familiar with the area. *** I caught up with both Baker’s father and head coach after the showcase. Let’s start off with his father. When I asked him about his overall thoughts on Notre Dame, his face lit up. He said it was honor for the family to be so heavily recruited by Notre Dame. He praised the program and academics and added that Quinn could do a great job of teaching Baker. I think he’s fully onboard with the Irish. Baker’s high school coach also gushed about Notre Dame and said he feels Baker can be a Sunday player. *** Baker was very impressive at yesterday’s showcase. He is a legit 6-foot-8 and has tremendous length and athleticism for his size. He also bends well and knows how to keep defenders at bay. One thing that really stood out about Baker was his patience. He never panics when facing a pass rush, and he won all of his 1-on-1 reps. I actually spoke to a Power Five coach in attendance that praised his balance and likened him to former Notre Dame offensive lineman Ronnie Stanley. Another compared him to former first round NFL Draft pick Joe Staley.
Honestly Spears is awesome. Dont know if that says more about the latest level of recruitment or Hollands talent evaluation skill
he's a great prospect with the exception of health...if he can get right like Tranquill, our Dline will be amazing on the inside
It was relatively amazing. Amazing for Stanford or even the PAC 12. Would it have competed evenly with a Bama or Clemson OL? That needs to be the standard we use. Luckily, Kelly finally realized that after the Clemson game.

Offer includes a FREE Notre Dame t-shirt! Midweek thoughts about the Notre Dame football program, its recruiting efforts and college football: PREDICTION: NOTRE DAME'S TOP 2019 LINEBACKER WILL BE .... I’m not big on predictions, but what better format to do so than this? The uncertainty at linebacker is arguably the biggest concern for most Notre Dame fans regarding the 2019 defense. That’s understandable to a certain degree, as the linebacker corps is young and unproven. The only veteran on the unit – fifth-year senior Asmar Bilal – hasn’t played well enough to ease my concerns. There will be growing pains with the unit, which could be dominated by sophomores and sophomore eligible players. But I also believe the unit will flash big-time playmaking ability at times this season. It might not be early and I’m not sure how often it will be, but there is a lot of length and athleticism on the depth chart. That’s not my bold prediction. Here is my bold prediction …. Assuming he can finally stay healthy …. sophomore Jack Lamb will end the season as Notre Dame’s best linebacker. Lamb was a highly ranked and highly regarded member of the 2018 recruiting class, checking in as the No. 77 player in the country according to Rivals. He was injured for much of the 2018 season, which resulted in him taking a redshirt. Lamb was healthy for all but one practice of the spring, but he missed the Blue-Gold Game, and that tendency to get banged up is something that gives me pause about this prediction. But when Lamb was healthy he was impressive. He’s about 6-4 and ended the spring over 230 pounds. That length and range is certainly impressive, but it’s the speed and athleticism that Lamb brings to the game that really stands out. Lamb is rangy and covers a lot of ground, and he had a number of plays during the spring where he exploded to the ball and made eye-popping plays. He can hammer the run game, he can play to the sideline with speed, and he is a natural in coverage. It took him a few practices, but Lamb got more and more comfortable as we got deeper into the spring. He still made way too many mistakes, which isn’t surprising considering his youth, but the reps he got should benefit him in the fall when it comes to cleaning up his assignments. Lamb will make mistakes though, but part of my prediction is due to the fact that I also think he’s going to be the best playmaker at the position. Notre Dame needs Lamb, the rest of the sophomores and a pair of juniors – Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and Jordan Genmark Heath – to really emerge this fall as a rotation, but Lamb arguably has the most raw talent of the group. 2020 OFFENSIVE CLASS IS POISED TO BE BEST OF THE KELLY ERA I wrote my first Midweek Musings back on March 6, and at the time I noted how important it was that Notre Dame have an outstanding offensive haul in the 2020 recruiting class. The 2017, 2018 and 2019 classes all added talent to the roster, but Notre Dame has yet to have that complete class on offense, one that adds impact players at every position while also providing depth. Fast forward just two months and Notre Dame is much, much closer to meeting that goal. Since then it has added just one commitment, but that was a big pickup. St. Louis (Mo.) DeSmet wideout Jordan Johnson committed to Notre Dame back in April, giving the Irish a fourth Rivals250 pickup in the class and a second Rivals100 player, joining Rivals250 tight ends Michael Mayer and Kevin Bauman , and Rivals100 quarterback Drew Pyne . Notre Dame has also put itself in truly excellent position to pick up another Rivals100 target in Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle star offensive tackle Tosh Baker , the nation’s No. 51 overall player. Should Baker join the class it would give Notre Dame three Rivals100 commitments on offense before we get to June. 51 NATIONAL 2 STATE 0" style="box-sizing: border-box; display: inline-block; height: 10px; width: 7px; background: url("https://cdn.rivals.com/production/a...bfb264f545034d3f8a342e9632778ca65a3af8278.svg") left center no-repeat; margin-bottom: 3px;"> 9 POSITION TOSH BAKER RANK 6.0 6'8" | 275 LBS | OT PINNACLE PHOENIX, AZ CLASS OF 2020 UNDECIDED Consider this … Brian Kelly has been Notre Dame’s head coach for nine full recruiting classes prior to the 2020 group, and only twice (2013, 2014) has the Irish staff landed three Rivals100 recruits in the same class. That’s quite a start for Chip Long and the offensive staff, but the way things are going right now they aren’t close to being done. Notre Dame either leads or is in the top two or three schools for Rivals100 receivers Michael Redding and Jalen McMillan , and Rivals250 receiver AJ Henning . Notre Dame is also near the top for Omaha (Neb.) Burke receiver Xavier Watts , whose talent far surpasses his current three-star ranking. Notre Dame is set to receive June official visits from a pair of Rivals250 offensive linemen – Zak Zinter and Geirean Hatchett – and could receive another from four-star Michael Carmody (see below). 60 NATIONAL 2 STATE 1 POSITION CHRIS TYREE RANK 5.9 5'10" | 185 LBS | APB THOMAS DALE CHESTER, VA CLASS OF 2020 UNDECIDED Of course, the biggest name on the board along with Baker is Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale running back Chris Tyree , the nation’s No. 60 overall player. Landing Baker, landing a couple of the aforementioned receivers, and landing Tyree would blow away any previous offensive class that was signed during the Kelly era. There is A LOT of work to do to make this happen, but as things stand today – May 7 – Long, Lance Taylor, DelVaughn Alexander, Tommy Rees and Jeff Quinn have certainly put themselves in position to make it happen if they can close. TOP NFL DRAFT PROSPECTS ON 2019 SCHEDULE Looking at various 2020 Mock Drafts or NFL Prospect rankings, it seems that right now Notre Dame's best draft prospects are defensive ends Julian Okwara and Khalid Kareem, offensive linemen Liam Eichenberg and Tommy Kraemer. Notre Dame's schedule has a number of top early draft targets as well. Here are some of those players that are in Mock Drafts or top prospect rankings for Dane Brugler at The Athletic, Todd McShay at ESPN and Matt Miller at Bleacher Report. BRUGLER (Has Eichenberg and Okwara in his first round for 2020) Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia - No. 6 to the N.Y. Jets Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia - No. 24 to the L.A. Chargers D'Andre Swift, RB, Georgia - No. 30 to the Kansas City Chiefs Walker Little, OT, Stanford - No. 10 to the Tennessee Titans Bryce Hall, CB, Virginia - No. 18 to the San Francisco 49ers McSHAY Walker Little, OT, Stanford - No. 17 to the Houston Texans Bryce Hall, CB, Virginia - No. 32 to the New Orleans Saints MLLER (Just did a Top 32 ranking, no mock draft) Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia - No. 9 Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia - No. 13 Walker Little, OT, Stanford - No. 10 Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR, Michigan - No. 25 STAT OF THE WEEK Notre Dame is young and inexperienced in the middle of the defense, which has many concerned about how the defense will hold up against the run. What is not often discussed is the quality of the rushing offenses that Notre Dame will face. An interesting note is that Notre Dame's two toughest road games - Georgia and Michigan - are against the two best non-option rushing teams on the schedule based on 2018 numbers. Georgia ranked 16th and Michigan ranked 30th, although both lost their leading rusher. Beyond that the quality of the opposition ground games is not great. Rushing rankings for Notre Dame's 2019 opponents (2018 stats): Navy - 5th Georgia - 16th Michigan - 30th Boston College - 48th Virginia Tech - 57th Virginia - 60th Duke - 78th New Mexico - 89th Louisville - 102nd USC - 107th Bowling Green - 118th Stanford - 123rd Notre Dame played five Top 40 rushing offenses in 2018. Just three of the 2019 opponents ranked in the Top 40 a season ago. TWEET OF THE WEEK One of the things I respected most about Julian Love while he was at Notre Dame was that win or lose, good game or bad game, he was first class and positive. Looks like that is continuing in the early portion of his NFL career. A new target emerged after that happened, and his name should sound familiar to Notre Dame fans. Mars (Pa.) High School offensive tackle Michael Carmody was offered this past week. He is the younger brother of Robby Carmody, a freshman guard on the Irish hoops team. Here's film of the younger Carmody:
recruiting rundown Spoiler Sinclair’s Mid-Week Recruiting Rundown VIP ByKEVIN SINCLAIR 11 hours ago 18 (Photo: 247Sports) The recent commitment from Rylie Mills was more than just the addition of a quality defensive lineman. From a big-picture point of view, adding Mills was the continuation of a significant uptick in Notre Dame’s national recruiting acumen and ability to close on top priority recruits. Big Picture When I look at the 2020 class, I feel like Notre Dame filled all of its roster needs through the 2018 and 2019 classes which meant the current recruiting cycle offered an opportunity to focus on pursuing difference-makers – the Top 50-ranked athletes the Irish typically whiff on, the elite speed prospects at the skills positions, the havoc-causing pass rushers, and such. So far, I see Notre Dame succeeding on that path. Just three months into the recruiting cycle, the Irish boast four commitments inside the Top 150 consensus rankings. As promising as the 2019 class was, that group owned just two inside that column with more than twice as many athletes in total. By the end of the month, Notre Dame has the potential to add to that crucial Top 150 category, a possibility for multiple additions. In the 2018 class, Notre Dame signed eight in the Top247 within its 27-man class. With just nine commitments, Notre Dame is already at six athletes in the Top247. The proof is on paper – the Irish are hitting on more top talent than we’ve seen in years. Weighing the defensive tackle rotation Aside from being an analyst, as a guy who simply loves the game of football, I’m very excited to watch Notre Dame’s future group of defensive tackles take shape. When I look at the group as a whole, I feel like Notre Dame has a pair of high-floor veterans (although young veterans) in Kurt Hinish and Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. Below those two are three who I feel are somewhere near the can’t-miss column: Jayson Ademilola, Jacob Lacey, and Rylie Mills. Underneath all of the speculation, I’m confident this three will give Notre Dame productive defenders with multi-year starter potential. All three have minimal (if any) injury history and if that remains, I have a hard time seeing anything but impact athletes in the middle of the defense. Ademilola is already flashing that caliber of play while Lacey and Mills are two of the very best defensive linemen to come out of high school over the last two years. To be clear, it’s the wealth of talent below those top three that holds together my sky-high confidence in the future defensive tackle rotation. Starting with the two coming off injuries, both Ja’Mion Franklin and Hunter Spears hover near the 300-pound mark with a history of being prime disrupters. Spears would be my dark horse breakout player with time in the program off the injury list. Don’t forget Aidan Keanaaina and Howard Cross – two athletes who come from fathers who had success of their own on the football field. Keanaaina’s build and training under Matt McChesney, the prime component of my confidence in his future. With Cross, there’s something special about the way he battles on the line of scrimmage, his natural strength and way he uses leverage to his advantage centered on an ultra-physical nature. Any of Franklin, Spears, Cross, or Keanaaina developing into high-production starters wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. Notre Dame has typically had quality defensive tackles at the top of the depth chart under Brian Kelly. But never have we seen the jackpot of talent that Mike Elston will have at his fingertips in the coming years. I’m excited about this group and you should be too. Pre-Summer Wish List The first day of summer is June 21 which is also the day Notre Dame will kick off its colossal official visit weekend. Before that date, if Notre Dame can manage to secure commitments from the two athletes most often discussed recently – Top 50 talents in offensive tackle Tosh Baker and running back Chris Tyree – the Irish would roll into that crucial visit weekend with one of the best classes in the country, serious momentum on its side, and high appeal to the recruits visiting that weekend. With Pyne being the top priority quarterback, Mayer and Bauman the top two tight ends targeted, and Jordan Johnson the no-doubt top wide receiver recruit, Baker and Tyree joining the class would mean Notre Dame quite literally acquired its top prospect at each position group across the offensive board. Essentially, this would be comparable to a hypothetical 2019 offensive class that began with Graham Mertz, Austin Jones, Garrett Wilson, Quinn Carroll, Austin Stogner, and Hudson Henry. That’s the caliber of group Notre Dame is battling for currently. And given the general analysis and predictions around those two recruitments currently (I joined Tom Loy and Steve Wiltfong in my prediction for Tyree to Notre Dame recently), Chip Long is close to quarterbacking that spectacular collection of athletes. 18COMMENTS Like I said in the first section of this review, for me – the 2020 class on the heels of a 12-0 regular season and playoff appearance created an opportunity to acquire big-impact prospects. Athletes like Mills and Botelho offer that talent defensively. And on offense, Notre Dame is on the verge of hitting home runs across the board.
On the other hand EJ Holland just predicted Cody Simon to ND a few days ago We have our first Loy/Holland showdown folks
thats the thing here, its not like we have a logjam at LB currently. We have 3 guys still coming in and kiser in last years class, but you have to consider lamb could be a 3 year guy, bo bauer seems to be on a lost track given the transition at DC so i really dont know why you would pass up on a kid like this unless you rate him way differently than the recruiting rankings
Not really, probably only taking one more DL and they want McGregor. They have a lot of backup options that are higher than him on the board as well.
hugely happy with the pickup, wrapping up mills and baker just gives this class so much of a safer feeling
close at the very least. Quinn can prove himself a ton with a sculptable piece of premium clay like that
He's a good player, in most years ND should take him. But no room at the inn I think he ends up at Purdue and is an All B1G type player
I was taking about in the past. DJ Morgan, Genmark-Heath, Robertson and Moala all came in as safeties and moved to LB out of the last 3 classes. That's how Lou used to do it. Convert safeties to LB and backers to DL.
