lots of interesting names popping up about the OL coach BC's oline coach, Iowa's oline coach (Ferentz's son) has even been mentioned....he would be a homerun hire IMO
My dad texted me both of those last night. I'm sure both can coach up 3 stars, but can they recruit like we are used to?
HH only recruited OL. So the guy doesn't have to go crazy with recruiting just recruit the neck out of any OL he wants nationally. Because he has the brand behind him
Oh for sure, it's a hit list not a broad spectrum, but, recruiting the best OL because there are not really that many is tricky, especially to fit our system.
Listened to Sampson on their podcast today. Was pretty interesting, they seem to think Andy Heck is the dream OL hire. But regardless they feel OL will be in good hands because they think ND will have good options. Also felt they needed more of veteran safety coach for our youngish defensive staff, a S coach whose been around the block. Mentioned Dewayne Walker and Chuck Heater.
I've been paying very little attention to recruiting this year and don't know much about the early signing period. Can someone tell me... were some of the offers contingent on players sign early? What's the motivation for players to sign early - would we pull their scholarship if they don't, do they just want to get wrapped up, etc? With how volatile Januarys are in college football, why would you sign up early if you don't have to?
Once you sign somewhere, the other programs no longer have a reason to try and flip you. The recruiting process is pretty shitty for most people, kind of speaking from experience. Some coaches/programs are relentless. It's a relief not to have to deal with the constant communication. If you are solid in your commitment, there's no reason not to sign early. But if you're tied directly to a coach more so than the university itself (or just an attention whore), waiting for the later signing date makes sense.
most programs, including ND, pretty much said thats when your signing, if you dont, we shall not consider you committed. It also means you could lose your spot on top of what was said above.
Hope to hear some info on staff additions. Need to close in recruiting and it woild be ideal to have coaches in here that could help get a NPF
What a fucking gut punch at the end there. Knowing we need 9-10 ACC wins to get into the tourney, every one that's winnable that we don't get feels like a huge missed opportunity. My buddies were furious at the refs, but think they only missed the bang-bang charge/block call on Gibbs. Sure, that's a game changer, but still had a chance to win. Think the foul on Berry with 7 seconds left was a fair call, just incredibly bad luck to 1. have a shitty airball with 2 seconds left land straight in Berry's arms and 2. Gibbs have nothing he can do except foul him on a put back chance that had no shot to go in. Between the block/charge call, Berry foul play, and Gibbs in-and-out put back to win at the buzzer, it felt like nut punch after nut punch to end that game.
refs were trash both ways. It ended up costing ND more. Sad thing is a full strength ND would have boat raced NC tonight.
Going to be an interesting 3 weeks for ND football. Still need to make 2 more hires, need to get Tillery and Coney to stay and close on recruiting. Hoping for the best and expecting the worst for some reason
You are expecting the worst for 'some reason' because you are an ND fan and the worst is the likely outcome
But why, he is a very good coach. He should try to get to a place that could give him a chance to win big
Ken likely has watched GT and realized his offense will never work in a P5 conference unless he makes a huge change. So,
Watching this Jacksonville game and can’t stop thinking about Steve Hare calling Fournette a fullback in college
What? I am awful at predicting football talent and I could see fournette was a star. He is just fragile but how could you even think of him as a fullback. Jesus
Coney and Tillery need to decide by tomorrow. Loy says he is hearing Tillery is leaning to stay. And Coney was leaning towards leaving but with Lea hiring it's a Lot closer
you need so many running backs and offensive linemen as they are all very exposed in that system that the 85 limit is a huge issue id argue
No, and there is a reason for that. You need nimble but undersized OL, you need kids with little interest in the NFL and you need a completely selfless QB who knows he's basically a running back. Not a formula for 5 stars. ON D prep is never what you are going to see. Sure you can simulate stuff but without athletes to mock your opponent you're never going to get a true feel. COuld he go win 8 or so games a year, maybe, but any more than that is near impossible in today's climate. If the true triple option was the answer more than 1 P5 would run it.
You can absolutely recruit right to run the option You have to oversign and process kids You’d also need a dedicated walk on program Win a national title probably not but win 10 games yes
consistently in a P5, I guess I'll agree to disagree. I have no love for Johnson, and he likely is a lazy recruiter, but it's been shown it's a good way to be a pest and not much more. No top 100 skill player or OL is going to say "huh, I can play in a spread and makes plays, or, I can play in the Triple option and be a part time battering ram. The least likely option to the league seems cool, battering ram it is". Hell true pro style offense is dying in CFB. When you have large disparities player to player telling the other team what you are doing doesn't work. That's why RPO's and stuff have come to the world.
Yeah someone mentioned him in the bama oc thread, and I was confused so I looked that up. Would be a real bummer
If they did that would rank 3rd in importance of the losses. We had a good run game with Adams and that oline, what else went that well?
Really can’t be replacing our coordinators every year. But oc is much easier to replace with kelly at the helm
On the field I don't think it would be a huge loss, but continuity matters. Him bailing would be a huge kick in the nuts and maybe lend credence to the Kelly retiring narrative.
