What this hurts is our ability to for all intents and purposes use Tyree mostly in the passing game to help the WR's.

Really need Avery Davis to be good to go

It probably removes Tyree from the return game, too. It's too risky.

I think we should all agree that Loy is the authority on CJ Carr news. I believe he was the only one notified by CJ that he was coming in yesterday to meet with Wingo and Sammy Brown and he's the only one that got the pictures from last night's dinner (it's hilarious seeing those twitter pics posted with "IrishIllustrated.com" on them on the On3 site)

he's also the only one that got access to an in home interview prior to the CJC commitment

i bring all that up because he's also the main one who's been pushing the CJC to 2023 reclassification from day 1 (since he committed). There's just about zero chance it doesn't happen at this point. Heck, even Prister is already writing about it in his stories and that dude is ultra-conservative about that kind of stuff

honestly its a situation where his interests and NDs interests are diametrically opposed. The longer he waits with announcing the less likely ND will get a great QB in 24 and the more likely he is to become the heir of buchner

There is plenty of time for ND to get a great 24 QB. It was spring and summer before most of the 23 QBs started to announce. The coaches are absolutely still talking to 24 QBs. We're about to hit a two month dead period, as well, to buy some time. My guess is Carr's decision will be made (or announced if it's already made) by the time the season starts.

Besides, he's already acting as a leader for the 23 and 24 classes and trying to help recruit for both. He knows the impact having a good 23 QB can have on those efforts and won't hold the program hostage at the risk of hurting either class. I really feel his commitment and loyalty to the program are legit.

No. That window is technically when fall classes start. The window was for non-grads to enter the portal and be able to play right away. It's a moot point for grad transfers, as they already don't have to sit if it's their first transfer.

Even non-grads can apply for a waiver to allow them to play right away, and the NCAA seems to be in "fuck it, do whatever" mode, so waivers aren't tough to get.

i just watched his film for the first time, he's not the tallest TE but he is fast w/ excellent hands, very fluid in his movements

he's Tommy Tremble size (heightwise) but w/ much better hands and probably faster though nowhere near as physical

some good info on Larsen here from B&G

Notre Dame’s fourth commitment of the 2024 class is in, with Charlotte (N.C.) Catholic tight end Jack Larsen pledging to join the Fighting Irish.

Here is a breakdown of what the new addition means for head coach Marcus Freeman’s squad.

    1. Larsen is an outstanding pass-catching tight end who runs routes, catches the ball and has the body control of a top wide receiver talent. Personally, I don’t understand why folks would knock Larsen’s ability as a tight end because he’s more of a receiver at the position. That is an important element of being a tight end, and Larsen excels at it.

As long as he’s a willing blocker, he will get the job done in that area as he progresses as a player. Having a pass-catching weapon in line and in the slot at the tight end spot is valuable. Larsen fits the prototype of being too fast for linebackers to cover and too big and strong for defensive backs. Now granted, I don’t think Notre Dame can only sign receiving tight ends; a traditional Michael Mayer-esque do-it-all player is important, too. But Larsen’s talents shouldn’t be discounted.

    2. Those who follow my work at Blue & Gold have probably read or heard me rave about Larsen’s performance the Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion camp earlier this month. The Irish staff was clearly impressed as they closely watched his drill and route work, and five Blue & Gold staff members who attended the event liked what they saw, too, naming him the offensive MVP of the event.

For us, Larsen’s stock is up. Two of the three rankings websites list Larsen as a three-star prospect, but we believe he’s one of the few best tight ends in the country. Notre Dame has a case for Tight End U., and the staff coveted Larsen, who also held offers from the likes of Alabama, Clemson, Michigan, Ohio State and Texas A&M. The young man is a big-time player.

    3. Going back to when John McNulty was Notre Dame’s tight ends coach, the Irish were keeping a close eye on Larsen. During the summer of 2021 — a couple months before class of 2023 tight end Cooper Flanagan committed to the Irish — I was told that Notre Dame was very intrigued with Larsen and considered offering him back then.

Notre Dame didn’t offer Larsen until St. Patrick’s Day for the Pot of Gold initiative, and at that point, it became a matter of when Larsen would commit if the Irish staff pushed for his pledge. After Larsen dominated at Irish Invasion, the four-star prospect gave his pledge to the staff, and position coach Gerad Parker gets a lot of credit for this big recruiting win.

    4. Notre Dame was looking at Norcross (Ga.) High’s Lawson Luckie as a potential second tight end in the 2023 class, but Luckie is expected to stick with his Georgia commitment. Barring a change, it’s expected that Flanagan, the standout prospect from Concord (Calif.) De La Salle, will be Notre Dame’s lone tight end signee in 2023. If that’s the case, it would end a run of three straight recruiting cycles of Notre Dame signing two tight ends per class.

We’d expect Notre Dame to take a pair of tight ends in the 2024 class, with Rochester (Mich.) Adams’ Brady Prieskorn, the No. 3 tight end and No. 59 overall player in the On3 Consensus, as a name to keep a close eye on.

    5. Notre Dame is up to four commitments in the 2024 class, and it’s an outstanding start to the cycle. The class may grow next Wednesday when Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South wide receiver Cam Williams, a four-star top-100 prospect, announces his decision as well. After Saline (Mich.) High quarterback CJ Carr committed to Notre Dame earlier this month, he identified Larsen and Williams as players he wanted to get in the Irish’s 2024 class.

“Jack really stood out and made plays,” said Carr, in reference to Larsen’s Irish Invasion performance. “I heard his shuttle time was unbelievable. That’s another kid who has to be Fighting Irish. He has to come there with me.”

“He sometimes works out with one of my trainers in Chicago (Greg Holcomb),” Carr said of Williams. “(Irish Invasion) was my first time throwing with him, but over social media, we’ve talked. I’m excited for him. He has a really bright future ahead of him.”

5 people saw him in person and raved about him, that's pretty impressive

I think he's at least a top 150 talent in 2024, maybe backend top 100 depending on how he develops over the next 2 years, but he'll never have Eli Raridon size

Yeah that was a really weird set of tweets. This isn’t about “letting the players tell their story” or whatever he said later in the thread. It’s an injury news and they are literally paid to do that.

I'm working on the assumption that some protocol was broken. I imagine the staff has a policy on injury reporting something like "we'll let you know when he has told his parents and stuff and then you can have at it", and someone ran to press (twitter) before the green light.
