  3. Yeah I was really questioning even offering Reiff and Anderson based on their soph tape but their junior tape is really good. Probably why I do not get paid to project high school athlete’s potential

We are also actually actively culling the roster so I really don’t care much about recruiting as long as they are bringing in 25 each class and not whiffing on positions.

II Podcast suggesting Jordan Faison might dress / travel this weekend

Guess I missed it but Salerno is out for the year. Colzie for sure out and their reading through the tea leaves is Thomas is out

Leaves a combo of Tobias, Tyree, Flores, and Greathouse probably getting 90% of snaps, but they need to either run a lot of Evans wide, or play some James or Faison

We had the lowest pass vs expectation rate of any top 25 opponent against Ohio State in like the last five years. Interestingly enough, Utah was the closest to us.

Even if we won, I would’ve been disappointed with that. You don’t consistently win against the elites in college football by playing that way.

We had a higher RROE this year with Hartman than last year with Buchner. Which is insane.

This chart is like the Jonah Hill Moneyball meme where its like "This is Notre Dame. They're an analytics dream, with one problem. They run the football way too much."

Golden said they played the 3rd and 19 to avoid a 50/50 ball to Harrison and no pressure because the pressure didn't land on 4th and 7 and 3rd and 10. Believes its the right call but ball needed to be on the ground if the DBs attacked the ball better.

It’s not a terrible call if Ramon Henderson actually keeps his heels on the 1st down line and aggressively plays the football. The other safety played it perfectly and would’ve been in position to make a play in the seam if the ball was thrown to the other side of the field.

It’s not the ideal playcall and Golden certainly gets way too lax in 2 minute situations, but I don’t think it was as egregious as others think.

Either the coaches fucked up with the play call or the coaches fucked up not adequately teaching the assignments. This isn’t someone dropping a pass or not getting off a block. It’s someone (probably multiple someones) going the wrong way and being totally out of position.

I've seen the all 22 and it's this. To leave a player let alone the guy who has the most targets, catches and yards in the game completely with nobody re routing or underneath him while he runs 20 yards straight is a failure

Doesn’t look like they even got lined up right to be honest. Got to believe either Marist or Watts is on the wrong side of the formation.

Think they had a double #1 call cause on both sides the underneath droppers are working to the outside WRs. But the that leaves 4 for 3 WRs. And you have 2 of those 4 playing super deep. So you have 2 underneath defenders covering 3 verticals. Which doesn't work so well

The sad thing is that was an outstanding defensive performance. This will probably be two straight years when they hold OSU, one of the offenses in the country, to their lowest point total of the season. Pass rush aside, they played lights out when the lights were brightest. It's a damned shame it's soiled by 3rd and 19 and 10 men. Those were two HUGE let downs, but they weren't indicative of the unit as a whole.

Same feeling for the OL, which deserved to experience that win, but one 5 star DL breaking through and making a late play is one of the lasting memories.

In other positive news, Benjamin Morrison made himself some NFL money Saturday night. The good news for us is we still get him for another season and a half.

Yeah, they were really worried about those outside verts, and I get Golden's reasoning, but they'd successfully taken those away all game with great corner play and enough pressure to rush McCord's throws. I don't love getting away from what was working.

Same way with Parker on our last drive. It was too much out-thinking at that point, in my opinion.

Beyond how funny it is to assume MSU can swoop in and outbid ND for Freeman's services, there is other flawed logic here, as well. The big one is making assumptions about how ND and its fans view Marcus Freeman and the job he's doing.

There was always going to be a learning curve, and pretty much everybody acknowledged that early. Now, the further in we get, those missteps become more frustrating, but we're nowhere near the point of not believing in him for a couple reasons.

    1. He has shown growth and the ability to learn on the job. We've seen adjustments in recruiting strategy, approach to QB and aggressiveness in most games to score until the whistle of each half, just to give a few examples.

    2. From a talent perspective, this program is stronger and deeper than it's been in a decade, with evidence that it's only going to improve. And while they aren't all perfect, I'll extend that to talent on the coaching staff.

The foundation and upside under Marcus just feel a lot stronger than it has in ages. We're pissed about losing that game that way because unlike past big game losses, this wasn't ND getting outclassed while trying to hold on for dear life. They not only belonged on that field, they looked better in many aspects for much of the game and really lost it on a few decisions and mistakes. And, to give credit, OSU had a few big time players make a few big time plays when they needed them.

That's why nobody is even close to move on from Marcus. Clean a few things up and it should only get better around here. I'm sure the administration is loving the love ($$$) and positive vibes he brings, as well, so I don't see a program like MSU spending what it would take to get him.

I get there is a lot of hemming and hawing about freeman playing tressel ball... But I have to believe he knows they need explosive, high end skill talent. Still need to be a physical, can run the ball team, but I choose to believe he knows he needs to be more than Stanford/Alabama circa 2012. Like Kelly figured out, that will win you 10+games a year, but won't win in January. Unfortunately, Kelly seemed unable or unwilling to move beyond that
