What does a moron say? Duh
What do two morons say? Duh duh
What do 77,000 morons say when they're winning, but only 40,000 say when they are not? Duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh Duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh

Only in this case you sing it to the tune of Conquest and you sing it over and over and over.

It’s going to be interesting what comes out about the Stuckey firing. Irishjj24 is saying no one of consequence in the WR didn’t like Stuckey, it was just Colzie, Tobias, and James. Then you have notoriously positive tj34ND saying Stuckey is the fall guy for Parker and posting this

    IMG_2934.png

If Freeman is making coaching decisions based on players feelings like he did with the QB room/Klein last offseason, then he’s lost

Feels like we are going to be off by a year with the talent to compete for a title.

Defense will be lined up next year if Mills, Watts, Cross all stay.

Offense feels like it will be ready in 25 with the wide outs, next wave of ol, and Carr/Minchey

In 25 those aforementioned defensive players plus Morrison will be gone and who knows where Golden will be at that point. Would be amazing if he decided to ride out the rest of his career here but he will get looks from good jobs.

The CB room looks like it has lots to work with but you can't take for granted that it will replace Morrison

Whatever they think, or the truth about the culture, WR sucked ass. Fall guy or not, if they can pull off Shep and half the portal guys whose names are coming up, it's a net gain...and probably by a wide margin.

I really do not think Golden is gonna get a better job- he's not getting a P5 head coaching job or a NFL DC job. The days of hiring retreads to P5 HC's is over

Golden is gonna be at ND for awhile

For as much as the WR room was mishandled again, there are still so many 101 things about our offense that are glaringly wrong. Parker should not be left off the hook.

The point about playaction and the comment he made to the media was laughably bad. I understand the whole “fans always think they know more than the coaches” point, but there are also a bunch of coaches that rise in the ranks and get outrageous positions despite being absolute idiots. He’s one of them.

The only path I see is if Lou Anarumo gets a HC gig, which may not be as likely as I feared coming into this season.

If Lou does get one, I could see Al's named linked to any discussions as either his replacement with the Bengals or as Lou's DC.

Still not likely, but that's the path I see. Reading the tea leaves of comments from the beat, though, it sounds like he's enjoying ND and college more than expected.

If that would have been the move two years ago I don't think anyone would have had an issue with it but the optics aren't great now

The friends hire thing has honestly become a lazy message board complaint. Due to circumstances, he has had to make a lot of hires and a few have been connections. But is the percentage higher than what most HCs make? I'm guessing not. Still, his "friends hires":

TE Parker - probably a good hire, but hard to judge given what he inherited, but TEs played well and developed this year. Pass

OC Parker - fail. Could turn around, but I'll say fail.

DL Washington - I know the Scott thing pisses people off, but DL play is one of our strengths and recruiting has at least been pretty good. Not an A+, but still a passing grade.

ST Mason. Are you kidding me? Pass.

QB Gino - still early, but QB play was better, even if not what we expected, and recruiting is lights out. Pass

    Non-friends?

    RB DMC- huge Pass

WR Stuckey - apparently a fail, but it was also Tommy's guy. Still, it's a failure letting the OC make that call if Marcus wanted Shep.

OL- Rudolph - TBD, but his resume is the type that excites fans, so there's a strong rep there and on paper a good hire.

ST - Biagi - Pass. Started slow, but PK improved over the year and both return games improved as well. The big thing missing is all the blocks, but last year was never going to be replicated even with Mason.

    DC Golden - major pass.

The big issue is the retainment of Parker, and I get the comparisons to BK and BVG. Hell I want Parker away from OC. But unlike BVG, ND actually improved statistically overall in year one and BVG made it to a third season, which I doubt happens if the offense isn't more reliable next year.

It's just a lazy comparison, especially given the success of his connected and not connected hires.

Brown was instrumental in coaching one of the nation’s top offensive units at Cincinnati, helping the Bearcats to their first-ever 13-0 record and a second straight American Conference championship and College Football Playoff appearance in 2021. Brown led the development of All-AAC Second Team selections Alec Pierce (2021) and Michael Young Jr. (2020), among others. Pierce emerged as one of the nation’s top receivers, catching 52 passes for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in 2021. In 2021, Brown’s receivers helped an offense that broke the school records for touchdowns (70) and points scored (516). UC ranked second in the AAC and No. 11 nationally in scoring (36.9) and also led the conference and ranked No. 9 overall in yards per play (6.7).

The best HCs find a way to go outside of just their own established circle to hire the best coaches available. Sure, you don’t expect the entire staff to be made up that way, but generally the more the better.
