I posted because it was another starter lost by TAMU

And the fact he waited until after spring practice, yet already announced is giving me vibes that its a NIL related move - e.g. similar to the other A&M players who left when they realized their NIL contracts weren't worth the paper they were written on. He may have just given it a longer chance

Shrews knows what he's doing. This team is growing and getting better. With some key additions and more time, his teams are going to be very good.

IrishLAX2 not sure if you’re watching the lacrosse game but Georgetown is poling Faison rather than Eric Dobson. If he plays all 4 years he’s going to be a fucking beast

For those not familiar, the defense gets one pole for the midfield and that guy normally covers the best midfielder for the offense. Eric Dobson is the preseason middie of the year and Georgetown thinks Faison is a bigger threat. And he’s still able to run right past him

    That denbrock interview was stellar.

    loves nd
Said he doesn’t want to be a head coach. Have to assume he’s here until retirement if it works out.
Said they will fun 50 times some games and throw 50 times others

I am hoping for once nd is ahead of the curve on staffing. Young dynamic head coach, older established coordinators who aren’t looking to go anywhere. Stellar position coaches with a few ga guys who act like position coaches rather than sit shadowing someone.

"I think we’ll be probably a little more of a spread-looking football team than they’ve been the last couple of years. A little bit more 11 personnel than they’ve run the last couple years. The reason for that, it sounds weird, is to help out the run game and to help out the play-action game and to help out getting our athletes out in space and giving them the ability to make some explosive plays. That’s what we’re going to try to create."

There have been criticisms around the number of three-star prospects joining Notre Dame’s 2025 class, a volume that exceeds what we saw in Marcus Freeman’s first two recruiting cycles (2023/2024).

    That’s fair.

After all, the anticipation of improved recruiting outcomes was a big seller among the Notre Dame fan base when Marcus Freeman was promoted to the top job.

However, it’s important to keep in mind the significant movement in national rankings from top to bottom throughout a recruiting cycle. And the Irish signed all 23 members of its 2024 class just over two months ago.

You can bet your bottom dollar that more than one current three-star commit will be a four-star recruit next December. It’s what we’ve seen in most classes over the last decade. Some will descend in the rankings, and some current four-star recruits will climb higher in that column.

With that, who are the prospects who may have the highest likelihood of climbing the rankings between now and the end of the cycle?

In my opinion, it could start with the five laid out below.

    CREE THOMAS

    • 247Sports: 3-stars
    • Composite: No. 348

He took a major jump between his sophomore and junior seasons. After notching 33 tackles and one interception in 2022, Cree Thomas recorded 43 tackles and five interceptions, including a pick-six in 2023 as a junior playing multiple roles in the defensive backfield. That included plenty of safety snaps.

It was an improvement in versatility and playmaking ability. And if Thomas can pick up where he left off, taking the next step in production, physicality, and disruption as a defensive back, the Phoenix product could climb above the borderline three-star/four-star range.

This off-season, Thomas has turned heads on the 7-on-7 circuit, gaining a reputation as one of Arizona’s premier cornerbacks. But when you factor in the position flexibility and significant room for growth and maturation ahead, the Irish may prove to have made an excellent early evaluation here.

    WILL BLACK

    • 247Sports: 3-stars
    • Composite: No. 313
It takes time for prospects who enter the high school football scene from outside of the country to be evaluated and to prove their worth. That was the case for offensive tackle Will Black when he arrived at his New England boarding school in August from Southern Ontario.

Even so, the 6-foot-7, 290-pound bookend didn’t take long to amass a significant offer list, including Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and others.

Looking over Choate Rosemary Hall game films lately, there’s no doubt about it. Will Black has as much potential at the left tackle position as several prospects at the position who rank higher than the Irish commit.

With his first full off-season in the US program underway, look for Black to bolster his game heading into his senior season. He’s just one of three promising tackles committed to Notre Dame. And he may be the best of the bunch.

    SHAUN TERRY
    [IMG]

    • 247Sports: 3-stars
    • Composite: No. 491
He did a bit of everything last season at Ironton High School.

Shaun Terry turned 28 carries into 391 yards (14 yards per carry) and five touchdowns. He caught 27 passes for 525 yards and nine touchdowns. As a defensive back, Terry recorded 32 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three interceptions, six pass breakups, five fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble he returned for a touchdown. And he put together 701 return yards with four punt return touchdowns.

He doesn’t have a lot of size, a smaller receiver who could be labeled a slot receiver and return specialist capable of making exciting moves with gadget plays. But that’s something Notre Dame has lacked, a Midwest product who can add an exciting element to the Irish offense.

As a senior, we can expect Terry to earn a lot more touches offensively. And with another off-season starring on the basketball court and adding strength in the weight room, we should expect him to be that much more dynamic next fall. And so, don’t be surprised if Terry climbs the rankings this year.

    ETHAN LONG
    [IMG]

    • 247Sports: 3-stars
    • Composite: No. 319

The young, skinny, and lanky but promising sophomore turned into an impressive playmaker as a junior. Bigger, stronger, and faster, he showed an improving combination of physicality, open-field tackling skills, and playmaking ability in coverage.

Ethan Long came into Brunswick School as a newcomer in 2022, set to play varsity football and basketball. By the end of his sophomore year, he’d won a championship on the gridiron while notching a second championship title as the starting point guard and team leader in scoring.

Simply put, he’s a player on the rise. Unlike many Composite four-star recruits who are teenagers who could easily pass for 25-year-olds, Long is a teenager who looks like a teenager. And that often means significant physical and athletic development is ahead. So, we could see a rise in stock later this year.

    JOSEPH REIFF
    [IMG]
    (Photo: Joseph Reiff on Instagram)

    • 247Sports: 3-stars
    • Composite: No. 375

Joseph Reiff comes from a good stock, his father a former Northwestern defensive lineman. And those genetics have been passed down, evident in the 6-foot-5, 235-pound strong-side end and his super-high-motor approach with 64 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, and three forced fumbles in 2023.

Reiff is long and lean and aims to enter his senior season at 250 pounds with room for more. And if he can reach that weight and the strength that will come along with it, plus another year of natural maturation, the Chicago-area product should be a force in 2024.

Notre Dame has made a series of bets in its 2025 class, offering scholarships to various three-star recruits with modest college options, a wager the staff expects to pay off with significant and positive development over the next year and beyond.

In Reiff, it’s not difficult to envision that bet paying off in a big way. He has the size, the aggressive and assertive nature in the trenches, the pedigree, and the room for notable physical and athletic development over the coming years. And we could see major progress in the fall of 2024.
