Inside joke for rivals subscribers c. 2010. Sampson posted one day that there was a secret, surprise visitor on campus but he couldn't say who. He didn't say who it was for like 3 months, and it turned out to be Nick Martin. The board was convinced we had some silent 5* stud waiting in the wings, and didn't take it well when they found out it was a 3* center.

i would bet my money on elmer "retiring"

it doesn't make sense that the mods from these site wouldn't release info just based on loyalty to nd; it feels like they are trying to respect someone by allowing them to announce something themselves

    i've been wrong before though

I'm pretty sure its Elmer leaving for some incredible job offer he has.

Just got a text saying it could also be Redfield but I still think it'll be about Elmer.

Maybe it's the announcement of 5th years. Prister just commented on Mark Harrel saying it's his 4th spring ball starting soon. Meaning he's coming back? Which would be a mild surprise

We definitely have the depth to pretty easily absorb an Elmer departure. Redfield, I'm not so sure.

Robinson was inconsistent last year and the numbers weren't huge, but every WR that outperformed him is gone or Tori Hunter Jr. Not to mention he made a few plays without which the team wouldn't have gotten to 10 wins.

I get the concerns over not building on his first year or the drops, but he was still a second year player. Disappointment? Meh.

As for Elmer, he had his share and was easily the weak link on the OL, but he was still a starter on one of the best lines in the nation. If there was somebody easily better, don't you think that person would have played over him? I don't see Hiestand as being the type to play games with his personnel at the risk of having the unit underperform.

Assumign a line of McGlinchey-Nelson-Mustipher/Hoge-Elmer-Bars we still have McGovern, Bivin, Harrell, Mustipher/Hoge, Montellus, Byrne and Ruhland. Assuming the latter 3 arent really options yet it still means we can absorb a few injuries on the OLine without it being too much of an issue. Still would greatly prefer Elmer stick around, if i had to choose though id rather have redfield back, even if Elmer is the better player of the 2

I have a nice diatribe in the chamber for why Elmer and Robinson are perfect examples of the downside of the 40 year decision pitch. Tillery is on the watch list too.

Here is the latest I'm hearing on Notre Dame's recruitment of Savannah (Ga.) Christian Prep five-star wide receiverDemetris Robertson, an elite talent from the class of 2016.

    (Photo: Isaiah Hole, 247Sports)
I'll keep this update short and sweet.

Thursday morning, Rusty Mansell ofDawgs247reported the following:

"Dawgs247 confirmed with a family member on Thursday am that plans have now changed on [this weekend's] visit due to Savannah Christian and basketball. Robertson plays basketball and his team will now continue play into the weekend which would cause them to cut a visit to Athens short."

For a full look at the update, clickHERE.

This comes as no surprise to those atIrish247. Based on everything we've been told and continue to be told, Robertson wants to end up at one of his top academic options — Stanford or Notre Dame.

When news came out about this weekend's cancellation, one source simply stated, "Are you surprised? I'm not. I still think it's Notre Dame."

We're told that he's expected to get his latest SAT scores back today or tomorrow. At that time, if he does not gain the appropriate test score for Stanford, the Cardinal will likely officially be out.

Dawgs247is also reporting that he could potentially visit Georgia next weekend. That would not be a major shock to us, as Robertson continues to do his due diligence regarding all of his options including the Irish, Bulldogs, Alabama and Georgia Tech. However, as of today, we don't believe the Bulldogs are a legitimate threat until he actually takes one of these planned visits.

However, one source believes that if Robertson receives his scores and doesn't achieve the appropriate numbers for Stanford, he could shut things down quickly and make some type of announcement this Monday. That is far from a definite, but that's what one person believes.

(What's next for Notre Dame? Make sure you're in the loop -- take five seconds to sign up for ourFREE Fighting Irish newsletter now!)

Again, as we reported at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, achieving the qualifying test score doesn't make Robertson a lock to end up in Palo Alto. This has been a goal of Robertson's for quite some time and he has always wanted to say that he got into Stanford. Getting the acceptable test score would be a great start to that process, but it is just that — the start. He still needs to go through the entire application and admissions process, which would be quite lengthy. If he receives a qualifying test score, this recruitment could very well go on for another month.

However, as we've stated in the past, we continue to hear that Stanford is an unlikely option at this point and Notre Dame remains the favorite for his services.

Per the 247Sports Composite rankings, Robertson is the No. 14 overall player in the nation, No. 1 wide receiver in the country and No. 3 prospect in Georgia from the class of 2016.

    Mike Frank

    Quick update on Robertson
Heard ND had a conversation with him last night. Still same situation. Waiting on the score today. If he makes the score, he'll visit Stanford.

What are the odds of him making it? I really don't know, but I don't think he was just a shade under, but again, I don't know the facts.

What happens if he doesn't make the score will be interesting. I'm not sure ND has a definitive answer on that, nor does anyone. I think some are optimistic that he will just end up choosing ND at that point. That would certainly be ideal, but I wonder if that is the real plan? If that were the real plan, why mess with Georgia or Alabama at all about a potential future visit? Maybe that is all just a way to keep people content in his home state and at Bama until he finalizes what he wants to do?

Still in the waiting game, but hopefully we'll know something more soon.

    Mike

Well there's definitely that, but thats not what I was getting at. When you rely so heavily on non-football things in recruiting, you get a lot of players who come to ND for non-football reasons. I have a ton of respect for these guys as individuals, but as a football fan I'd much rather have a team full of guys who came to ND just to play football than guys who are thinking about getting into politics or saving the rainforest or whatever.

Are our admissions standards really that much lower than Stanford for football players?

Are there other cases of guys who wanted to go to Stanford but didn't get in so "settled" for ND?

If someone's going to college just to play football, the reasons to come to ND dwindle. Let's be honest, if I'm focused on the NFL and don't give a shit about anything other than football, then Bama, LSU, FSU, etc etc all seem like better/easier options.

ND constantly swipe players that were committed to Stanford but couldn't get past admissions. I'm blanking on names for right now, but I'm sure others can provide some.
