He just said he’d pursue television. I’d rather see him in Ted Lasso or some random reality show That Shit Brey
Tyree to the slot is interesting Hopefully means more about Price and other RBs giving him no shot at RB, then not having confidence at WR
Ok. Starting to get numbers clarification. None of those are shocking, but not guys that were hopeless, either. That's probably a good sign for others. I'm guessing a couple more will bolt after the shuffling that goes with spring ball.
Honestly, if Price is halfway healthy, Tyree wouldn't get carries. He is good at the buck sweeps out of motion, at least. This way he could be a steady presence in the slot and still run those with a little more deception behind it.
I feel like Freeman watched KState film and was like why the hell don’t we use Tyree like they used Deuce
Brought in top OC candidates to pick their brains on using ND's roster more effectively and steal their ideas. #galaxybrain
Walters is version 47 of 3* safety with size and speed that I assume is the next Ndukwe that doesn't pan out.
Tyree is going to get 5-7 touches a game, maybe more against a team that wants to play heavier. Pinning him down to a particular position is probably a waste of time. Whether you call him wr/slot or not he will assist with their production
II Offense report Spoiler On a rainy Wednesday morning to open 2023 spring drills, Notre Dame took to the practice field inside the Irish Athletics Complex with the media in attendance for the first five periods. (Note: a report on injured players not participating will be discussed with head coach Marcus Freeman after practice by decree of Notre Dame.) New offensive coordinator Gerad Parker went through his typical routine of pushups at the back of the group during flex. New Irish coaches Gino Guidugli (quarterbacks), Joe Rudolph (offensive line) and Marty Biagi (special teams) made their Notre Dame practice debuts. • The first order of the day was a body count and number changes offensively. Absent from the roster was offensive tackle Caleb Johnson. Offensive number changes included Chris Tyree from No. 25 to No. 2, wide receiver Deion Colzie from No. 16 to No. 0, and wide receiver Tobias Merriweather from No. 15 to No. 5. • The most striking change was not seeing Tyree in a different number, but rather, a different position. Tyree was working with the receivers during position drills, eventually running out of the slot position. The running backs were represented on the field by Logan Diggs, Audric Estime and Gi’Bran Payne. • During the first five periods, the offensive line did not work as a group of five. But the left tackle-left guard-center combination as well as the right tackle-right guard-center combination worked in isolation drills. Deducing from those drills, the No. 1 offensive line to start the spring of ’23 was LT-Joe Alt, LG-Michael Carmody, C-Zeke Correll, RG-Andrew Kristofic and RT-Blake Fisher. The next group included LT-Tosh Baker, LG-Billy Schrauth, C-Pat Coogan, RG-Rocco Spindler and RT-Aamil Wagner. Carmody has played tackle and guard for the Irish previously. Others getting reps along the offensive line were C-Ashton Craig, RG-Sam Pendleton and RG-Brennan Wick. (Note: Uncertain as to where Ty Chan and Quinn Murphy aligned.) • Not much to see with the quarterbacks, including Wake Forest grad-transfer Sam Hartman who looked comfortable/free-and-easy throwing on-target spirals to the Irish receivers. • Physically, the trio of freshman receivers are impressive, particularly Jaden Greathouse and Rico Flores Jr. Braylon James is not as physically put together as the other two, but again, he impressed as an athlete. In a drill led by receivers coach Chansi Stuckey, Flores seemed to perform with the most assuredness while Greathouse made a tremendous leaping grab on a ball thrown at the top of his catch radius. As it relates to players working at the wide receiver positions (based upon a drill and not a 7-on-7 or 11-on-11), Deion Colzie, Kaleb Smith and Braylon James were at the boundary receiver position. The field wideouts included Lorenzo Styles, Tobias Merriweather and Rico Flores Jr. Working from the slot were Jayden Thomas, Chris Tyree, Matt Salerno and Jaden Greathouse. The tight ends on the field were Mitchell Evans, Holden Staes and Davis Sherwood. (Again, please note that information on the injured players will be made available after speaking with Marcus Freeman.) • Offensive players working at kick coverage positions included scholarship players TE-Holden Staes, TE-Mitchell Evans, RB-Audric Estime, WR-Jayden Thomas, WR-Rico Flores Jr., WR-Matt Salerno and RB-Gi’Bran Payne. Offensive walk-ons participating on special teams included WR-Leo Scheidler, WR-Henry Cook, WR-Jack Polian, RB-Skip Velotta, TE-Hakim Sanfo, TE-Justin Fisher, TE-Andrew Yanoshak, WR-Alex Whitman, WR-Chase Dixon and WR-Griffin Eifert. • Scholarship kick returners included Chris Tyree, Gi’Bran Payne, Logan Diggs and Jaden Greathouse.
Defense Spoiler Notre Dame, Ind. — A few pertinent notes before prior to dealing what was largely a five-period roll call for the media for head coach Marcus Freeman’s first practice of his second spring. — Practice reports this spring will include injury updates in the ensuing message board thread, today’s after speaking with Marcus Freeman. — No heights and weights have been updated since January. That information is forthcoming. — Roster updates: Missing as expected from the official roster are cornerback Philip Riley, safety Justin Walters, offensive tackle Caleb Johnson, linebacker Will Schweitzer, and kicker Josh Bryan. — Conversely, present and on the roster—amid much off-season information and speculation to the contrary—are cornerback Ryan Barnes and nose tackle Aidan Keanaaina. — Good news on the injury front: Nickel Thomas Harper and cornerback Cam Hart participated today, though both took off their helmets and watched the tackling drill (tackling dummies/not live). Both had off-season shoulder surgery though to be more accurate, Hart’s took place immediately following the regular season. Number changes and freshman #s (Defense): Safety Xavier Watts #0 (shares with Deion Colzie) Ohio State transfer DE Javonte Jean-Baptiste dons #1 LB Jaylen Sneed wearing #3 (We know longer ‘have a problem’ with that number change defensively) CB Jaden Mickey #7 The aforementioned Thomas Harper is #13 Freshman WR Jaden Greathouse #19 Freshman S Adon Shuler #21 Freshman S Ben Minich #22 Freshman LB Jaiden Ausberry #23 Freshman LB Preston Winter #25 Freshman CB Christian Gray #29 Freshman LB Drayk Bowen #34 Sophomore DL Tyson Ford #95 (from #98) Freshman DL Devan Houstan #98 Today’s defensive linemen REPPED as follows during Period #2. This was against air, and in one segment, mind you: Jordan Botelho, Howard Cross, Rylie Mills, NaNa Osafo-Mensah Joshua Burnham, Gabriel Rubio, Jason Onye, Javonte Jean-Baptiste Junior Tuihalamaka, *I wrote down #45 walk-on Kobi Onyiuke (6’4” 250), Tyson Ford, Alexander Ehrensberger And a three-man crew of Donovan Hinish, Aidan Keanaaina, and Aiden Gobaira *Clearly I’ll have to double check on the Onyiuke notation, as I might’ve meant #47 Onye twice. Today’s ‘First Row’ in practice (Generally means they were SWAT leaders of some sort): Michael Vinson, Davis Sherwood, Chris Tyree (sporting #2), Matt Salerno, Charlie Selna, Joe Alt, Zeke Correll, Rylie Mills, NaNa Osafo-Mensah, Jack Kiser, DJ Brown, Howard Cross, Cam Hart and Clarence Lewis. A few observations from the cycles in Periods 3-4. SDE Aiden Gobaira participated in punt coverage drills. He was joined by more than a dozen but notably Jaden Mickey, Ben Morrison, Jaylen Sneed, JD Bertrand, DJ Brown, Ramon Henderson, Marist Liufua, and Thomas Harper Mickey, whether wearing his former #21 or new #7 is a distinct player to spot on the practice field. Torso is shaped like a V with towels hanging as he runs. Not dissimilar in that regard: Freshman CB Christian Gray The oddest quintet repping together during Periods 3-4: Benjamin Morrison, Michael Vinson, Chance Tucker, Ryan Barnes, and Rino Monteforte. Three corners, two long snappers, a freshman All-American, and a potential team captain. Other groupings: Vypers/Safeties: Junior Tuihalamaka, Jordan Botelho, Joshua Burnham, Thomas Harper, Ben Minich, DJ Brown, Ramon Henderson, walk-on Marty Auer (often traveled last season), and Xavier Watts. Linebackers: JD Bertrand, walk-on Tre Reader, Jaylen Sneed, Jaiden Ausberry, Jack Kiser, Jaylen Sneed, Prince Kollie, Drayk Bown, Nolan Ziegler, and a non-rostered walk-on wearing No. 46 who was not participating…but also not in The Pit. Defensive Linemen: Tyson Ford, Donovan Hinish, Howard Cross, Alexander Ehrensberger, Jason Onye, Javonte Jean-Baptiste, Rylie Mills, Aiden Gobaira, Gabriel Rubio, Aiden Keanaaina Later (Period 5), the cornerbacks gathered as such: Chance Tucker, Cam Hart, Jaden Mickey, Clarence Lewis, Benjamin Morrison, Ryan Barnes, Christian Gray, and walk-on (wide receiver, I assume) Isaiah Dunn though he was wearing a white jersey designating defense The safeties: Xavier Watts, Ramon Henderson, Thomas Harper, Marty Auer, DJ Brown, walk-on Eddie Scheidler, and Ben Minich The linebackers: Prince Kollie, Jack Kiser, Jaiden Ausberry, Jaylen Sneed, Preston Zinter, Marist Liufau, JD Bertrand, Tre Reader, Nolan Ziegler, and Drayk Bowen. Linebackers did not lineup in terms of Rover, Mike, or Will in our viewing periods. — Injury updates (6 players combined offense/defense) will be posted in this thread after Marcus Freeman’s post-practice press conference.
Audric Estime working on kick coverage - if I'm a kick returner I'm letting every ball kicked bounce right the fuck out of the endzone.
As usual, scholarship numbers always work themselves out at ND. Always. There should be no concerns about oversigning...ever.
It's certainly the scariest spot. Watt and Henderson have shown flashes and should be ready and Brown is at least steady. But an injury or two could be troublesome. Especially if Harper plays more of a nickel role. I'm guessing they let spring play out to see what they have then look at either corner switching and/or another transfer. Guard is a question mark, but that's more about experience than numbers. I feel like there's going to be healthy competition to find good options there. I also worry about depth and size at interior DL. One transfer there ala Chris Smith couldn't hurt after the spring. Numbers and experience-wise, everything else seems solid at worst.
the only sub i had paid for was the $1 On3 sub and that expired in Feb I was using another sub from someone else for D3's site but that has expired so the only one working now is Irish Illustrated I would be more than happy to post if someone wants share their info w/ me :)
