So there are 10 WRs as of today for next year. You need 9 and we are getting one in the portal per coach d. So 2 more transfers to go.
So...skipped the part about the playoffs and developing pros? Beating ND was window dressing along the way. And that ND team went 11-1 in the regular season. I know you hate this program, but at least be objective about others' accomplishments.
The TE who has been passed by guys who’ve come back from multiple acl surgeries is leaving. Freeman has lost the team.
I’m absolutely willing to be objective. If you’re wanting to get to Cincy’s level, go right ahead. I’d like to set the standard a touch higher. Simply getting to the playoff is not some amazing feat. For the record, I was also vehemently against the Stuckey hire and you all called me an idiot.
So our only options are WR coaches from Alabama, Ohio St., Michigan, or Georgia by that reasoning, no? I mean, Clemson is the other recent playoff regular, but I don't think we want their current staff.
Purdue has not reached the heights of a playoff Cincinnati team that we are supposed to be reaching higher than. Keep up. Purdue coaches are for poor programs who aren't even trying to win.
I want a proven WR coach who has consistent success developing elite college WRs/and or sent multiple WRs to the NFL. Given the green-ness of our OC, someone that can help develop a passing gameplan would be an additional nice-to-have. I don’t think that’s too much to ask. Two of our three finalists for the job last time actually fit that criteria. We chose the third inexplicably. I’d like to not make that mistake again.
I think you overestimate how many of those are out there and actually available. Those guys are moving up to be OCs. And those top programs who lose them will replace them with coaches from programs like Cincinnati. That's kind of how this works.
Is there any intel on Staes on other boards? He's firmly the #2 TE on a team that uses them a ton. Not particularly worried about that position group without him but it's not a good sign
The top programs go and find them. Either we do too, or we come to the realization that we’re not one of those programs (and drop our expectations accordingly). We can’t have it both ways. Either we’re an elite program, or we’re a solid one pretending to be elite. Honestly, it feels more and more like the latter these days.
Yeah. Hartline's resume as a GA was stellar before he got that gig. Then again, he was a "friend" hire, which means they knew something about him and his work before promoting him.
Malcolm Kelly is one of the best WR coaches in the country and he’s at a school with no standing in the future college football landscape. I’m not saying he has to be the guy, but if we can’t lure someone like him, that’s a major red flag. Find guys like that. Two of our finalists had almost the exact same pedigree last time. I’m not claiming we should steal Alabama’s or Georgia’s or Ohio State’s WR coach. That’s unrealistic. TCU’s should be on the table though.
Staes had 4 for 115 against NCSU, his next best output was 2 for 16 @ Louisville, he pretty much disappeared after the #1 guy got hurt and he had every chance to grab that role. I'd rather keep the kid because I think he is going to be good to very good but it isn't strange that he is looking elsewhere at this point.
Has Kenny Guiton been mentioned in your ND circles? QB at OSU when Freeman was a GA. Coached with Tom Herman at Houston, Skip Holtz at La Tech, Addazio at CSU and now caught up in a possible shuffle at Arkansas.
Women got a W at Tennessee after being down 16 in the first half, good road win missing Miles, Citron, and, Prosper.
I care way less about team success in this argument. It’s a position coach, not a head coach. Though TCU did have more playoff success than Cincy if you really wanna go down that path. What really matters is the WR rooms the coaches have put together in the past. Kelly has done that way better than anyone at Cincy ever did. And I’d also contend his recruiting connections in Big 12 country will also pay much larger benefits for that particular position group than someone from the Midwest. So yes, if Freeman were to choose an ex Cincy WR coach over someone with that type of resume, I would claim that he went for familiarity over quality. And I think that would be a mistake.
I’ve seen one ND site mention him on a large hot board, but no real connection He has the important qualifier of having played or coached at OSU or Cincinnati, so I’m sure he’s on Freeman’s radar
O’Malley seems to be hinting this will be the craziest month in ND roster history Seems like we might need to just let it play out he’s also really vague
I am enjoying the revisionist history of Freeman hiring his buddies. Dude went well outside his tree for DC, tried to for OC, OL was unaffiliated, WR was a couple of guys with no connection and Tommy wanted Stuck, etc. Parker is the wart and he was clearly not choice #1, maybe we should chill on this narrative until a couple cycles actually lend it evidence.
lots of turnover both in and out - he’s been saying 35 in/out names plus the incoming freshman so that’s a crazy amount
There’s going to be a very necessary culling of the roster toward the bottom simply due to numbers. As long as it’s the Aidan K’s of the roster and no more potential starters, we’re fine.
Some of you motherfuckers will never be happy no matter what freeman does. You will always find something to bitch about. I bet y’all are real fun at parties.
Not to mention ND has a documented history of being cheap when it comes to hiring assistants. But let’s blame the HC. He only hires his friends they say. ***rolls eyes***
I didn't say he only hires his friends but don't keep friends around who are in over their heads with their roles. Parker TE coach, fine. Parker OC lazy and horrible. I also don't completely blame Freeman because Jack fucked up the Ludwig hire. Again, I really like Freeman and want him to be at ND for a long time
we both can agree parker needs to go but I understand why he’s apprehensive to make the change given how HORRIBLY ND botched the Ludwig deal. Dude was good to go and a school with a Fort Knox endowment started counting pennies. THAT is embarrassing.
