Enjoy these wins boys. Seriously. Enjoy these wins. There's a lot still to improve, but the Irish did in fact win against a halfway decent squad.
Leaving the game I had to keep reminding my dad that LVille was #15 coming in, they aren't great but that is a decent top 20ish squad.
They’re incapable. They’re all got reporter brain where it’s easier to complain than be happy. Hopefully it’ll pass as long as ND keeps winning, but they just can’t. Was it pretty? No. Was it mind numbingly frustrating? Absolutely, but it’s basically survive and advance.
I honestly don’t think Toma is right. You can easily say you’re happy with that win but the team still shows signs of being terribly coached. Frankly, I think any other take is off base at this point.
That said, I also saw a lot of progress in the first half on offense. Claiming otherwise is also off-base. It was the best of times and worst of times for Denbrock yesterday. But you’re starting to see the upside if they can get it together.
Offense: 3rd coordinator in 3 years. And the previous two were a nepotism baby who failed at bama and a first time desperation coordinator hire. 4th qb in 3 years. Current qb has played 10 games over 2 years and missed spring. 75% of the wr core are transfers who didn’t get to work with said new qb until the fall practice. the online was replacing 3 starters and then 3 of those replacements go down for the season. Pretty remarkable they get anything done on offense. It’s frustrating as hell but understandable.
Seeing Riley look like the guy we want was really encouraging, hopefully they can tailor things to him over the break and come up with a way to get 6-7 effective runs out of him and let him work the pass game while not beat to shit.
Also, Acknowledging Clausen with a little video and live shot in stadium was like a kick in the dick while watching the current passing offense. That dude could straight throw.
I have sometimes thought about Clausen on some of the teams we have had with the defenses we had and have gone to dark places
2018 was quite possible as well, as long as we didn’t get the injuries in the beginning of the game to Love and Okwara vs. Clemson
Our kids were shit talking like crazy post game, not sure if it was spill over from last year or what but they were not kind.
I should have saved my comment last week that team will make us crazy all year because of expectations. At this point I am just collecting g wins.
There was apparently a lot of bad blood in this game. Jordan Clark got spit in the face which is why he head butted that WR and got a personal foul penalty.
He and that dude had been jawing a lot, I assumed he just got tired of it, getting spit on makes more sense.
I’ll also say this team spotted them 2 TDs and found a way to still win somewhat comfortably. Against a legitimately well coached top 20 team. Is it still mostly on pure talent? Yes. But they at least showed a level of resolve in this game that they couldn’t earlier in the season. That’s progress.
Defense (this game): dline: without a second string interior guy and down to 4/5 string at edge. True freshman at like 240 pounds playing a ton of snaps. lb: 5th year senior leader goes down early. Multiple true freshman’s and re freshman playing against a guy who is a genius with motion and playcalling. secondary: played most of the game with 4/5 string corners.
Also if freeman had called 2 timeouts on 4th down in the second half and the didn’t have one and got a delay of game to lose the game essentially he would not have made it out of the stadium.
Good. ND is always everyone’s Super Bowl and teams continue to inexplicably rise up and play out of their minds so embrace the bully mentality, push these assholes around and show no mercy. Especially against garbage can “schools” like UL.
Apparently there is video of our kids doing the Dx crotch chop to the LVille kids, can't find it, but that is funny.
When your RB room is as talented as it is, it’s embarrassing to have Leonard receive the most carries
He was pissed after Miami also, something is not clicking and he is frustrated because he can’t find the answer. And all the injuries must be so maddening. He is at a crucial point in his career which amplifies everything.
right side of the oline left a lot to be desired Also was crazy how many injury timeouts UL had, seemed to happen after every big offensive play but maybe I am being dramatic, I don’t want to go back and watch it again to see.
The pacing of the game was incredibly disjointed; couldn't believe the injury timeouts and the amount of total timeouts there were
They seemed to be faking injuries. After any explosive play of ours they had a guy go down. Miraculously, those guys would be in the following play. They were trying to slow us down.
I think kiffen to uf will be loud enough to stop it. That plus angeli and minchey transferring will help. although, Tim o said that angeli is hell bent on starting a season here. Good for him. Hope he wins it next year.
Clausen could really let it rip He went to like 3 straight gut wrenching losses where the auburn fanbase lost its mind on the head coach He should probably not visit ND this year lol, keep that bad vodoo out of SB
