If ND beats OSU and USC and loses a close one to the likes of Clemson, they can shove their data points up their ass, because ND would be in.
Yeah, we'd essentially be taking one of their spots, unless it's one of those strange years like last year when OSU lets somebody else have a turn.
Historically black college. Travis Hunter chose Deion Sanders' HBCU over Florida State because recruits feel they can play a part in bringing up the whole black community and gaining exposure to HBCUs. Playing one a year on national TV is a really cool selling point of building HBCU exposure while still playing for a national title.
As someone on Twitter put it, the worst corners of our fan base are pissed about this, so it's a great idea.
Genius move by Jack though. Makes it hard for anyone mainstream to get too mad given the background and then when we schedule Austin peavy the streak will already be broken.
It seems pretty clear that he’s still shopping himself around. Just got to hope he doesn’t get any huge offers from an SEC booster group.
The “+” means ND has a shot. Tom knows who pays the bills still (I always forget he’s still doing this until one of our old beat writers retweets something like this )
I’m definitely in the minority here but I don’t give a damn if we play Tennessee state. Don’t care who it is, just win. If coach D really thinks playing Tennessee state is gonna effect us making the playoffs with 1 loss then I don’t know what to tell him.
Yeah, I can remember all the years Clemson was eliminated from playoff contention because they are mandated by South Carolina law to play a sub-division state school (probably for the payday) and usually played SCSU. Or when Alabama played Jacksonville St in 2022. FOH with the garbage. Just stop blowing the dog whistle and admit what they think.
If nothing else it’ll be nice for the ND game day fanbase to see first hand what excitement and passion is for a change.
My sister is a TSU alum who detests football but might come up for the game. She’s never been to ND stadium.
To be fair, that’s not the concern for (most) people upset. It’s what beist said earlier. We always had that “we all play 12 fbs teams” to waive away the fact that we didn’t play a conference championship game. It was our “12th data point”. That said, there is no difference between paying UMass and Tennessee State in terms of prestige, so it’s not going impact us negatively for the playoffs so that angst is way overblown
I don't think you're in the minority here. I mean, I think we give a damn, but on the positive side. For schedule impact, I agree with you.
yep. to be clear, my post was mostly tongue in cheek, although I did sorta like being able to say we were one of the very few teams that didn't play FCS. But as someone else said, the bottom half of your schedule doesn't matter, no matter who you are.
The truly worst part of all of this is USC is now the only school that can say that. Both ucla (2022) and is (2023) will play the very first FCS team and Usc will be the last team “standing”
I enjoyed that too, but if it’s gonna happen, it being a black college is so cool with the added fact that it pisses racist ND fans off on such a scale. Loved that Freeman got people on board with mass coming back to do this. Makes my heart swoon even more.
I was referring to all the ND fans ive seen bitching on twitter. Not people I follow but replies ive seen. Miserable. One guy said we should cancel the blue gold game and invited Tennessee State for a scrimmage instead, and Im pretty sure he's serious. LOL what?
Don’t tell coach d. He will pull out how Ball state fucked up a FCS team. I really think this isn’t a big deal and it is even better if the playoff expands
There has been a movement to make spring games exhibition games with lower level schools for a while. It never gains traction because it’s pretty damn dumb.
I honestly didn’t think cranbrooks (where that guy is from) had sports teams and I used to live next door. The ultimate elitist school in Michigan and referenced in Eminem’s 8-mile rap battle.
The same grumpy old fucks that were upset about a turf field, video scoreboard in the stadium, upgrading player dietary intake, etc. "We won plenty of championships without all this change. This generation scares me."
madden (no offense to him) was a short guy with short arms who was unathletic. this guy seems pretty athletic for 300 lbs.
