Nice that the job is getting attention. Not sure I’m sold on Leftwich yet.

I love the dude and idea too, but, his only experience is with Arians as HC and Brady at QB... I assume he would recruit well, but he certainly seems like a high ceiling low floor guy.

This team needs a guy who is ready to call winning offense now.

Absolutely, wild to hear that a guy who got NFL HC interviews called us, MF is attractive in more ways than one apparently.

I will say, if MF decided he was the guy after interviewing a few I'd be thrilled, I think BL may have the most upside of any of the guys discussed.

He obviously has the playcalling acumen, but the lack of history developing young QBs is a serious red flag IMO

Given our poor history at QB, we need someone with a very established track record of development

He was WR coach at LSU as well as passing game coordinator, not saying he can't develop a QB but 1 year with Burrow probably isn't proof and his time with Allen in Buffalo so far has been meh.

I like the NFL thought process. But taking a 30 year old adult and coaching him is so much different than coaching a 18 year old who knows nothing. I kind of like Lewis and Moorhead most as of now

Uhh that resume is 100x better than any previous ND OC hire in my lifetime

The NFL is an extremely shitty place for AA coaches, it’s entirely possible Leftwich thinks he can get a P5 HC job after 1 season at ND. If he stays in the NFL it’s probably as a QB coach or analyst this next season unfortunately for him

"Want evidence outside of your eyes? Cynthia Frelund of NFL Network has some details that will make you slam your head against the wall.

Preseason injuries on the offensive line (including the loss of center Ryan Jensen, who missed the entire regular season with a knee injury) made it even more important to mount an effective rushing attack. However, computer vision shows that the Bucs (with Leonard Fournette and rookie Rachaad White leading the team in carries) had the most back-to-back unsuccessful rushes on first and second downs that gained fewer than 3 yards. This means there were frequent occasions when Tampa called a run on first down, failed to gain much, then called a run again on second down (employing the same or similar play), only to fall short again, leaving Tom Brady to try to pick up 6 yards or more on third down behind a banged-up O-line while facing a defense that knew the pass was coming. In terms of rushing yards per attempt, the Bucs’ mark of 3.39 was the lowest in the NFL; the team also finished last in the NFL in rushing yards per game (76.9).

Leftwich, without Arians holding his hand, was simply over his head. If Leftwich was as sharp as some would have you believe, he’d be working for someone else right now. Look at former Dallas offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. The guy wasn’t on the street for 24 hours before the Chargers pounced and hired him."

Seems more likely he’d be using that opportunity as a run-through based on my very limited googling (hot name in the NFL as a possible OC and trying to figure out if the Eagles current OC gets a HC gig)

Granted, I don’t know how much of the Eagles offense can be attributed to him this year. But he coached Kyle Trask at Florida and I’m not sure how Jalen Hurts is who he is this season

For sure. And it’s very beneficial to create as much hype around the job as possible. Even if it’s just for this guy to get some interview practice in, you do it. Just doesn’t seem like he’d take a step back down to college after getting an NFL gig lined up and creating a name for himself after a few years already being a college OC.

Basically, it would be a mutually beneficial exercise. Just don’t know that it happens given that it’s after the SB and the fate of the current OC of the Eagles’ fate will likely already be sorted out by then.

Problem is, even the writers all seem to be contradict one another, which tells me nobody actually knows anything. I mean, let's face it, their best source just packed for Tuscaloosa.

Perhaps it is time the writers plumb some new areas and do a little work for a change. Seems they were largely too comfortable with Rees as their primary (sole?) source. That just screams laziness.

For the record, I too am happy to see less leaks in this search.

Have we talked about how Sampson met Rees at the airport before he boarded his flight to Tuscaloosa? That was a pretty wild omission by his part and all but confirmed his loyalty to Rees/source

i really wonder who reporters are going to turn to for inside info going forward
