if it happens polian will finally have earned his salary for being on staff for so long without doing anything good
Loy scoop Notre Dame started its run of Official Visits this weekend. The Fighting Irish hosted four uncommitted prospects including a fifth that arrived on Sunday and will leave on Tuesday. Let’s dive into what I’m hearing coming out of the weekend. I feel great about Notre Dame’s chances with Lufkin (Texas) high school four-star running back Kedren Young. He’s been the top target at the position for running backs coach Deland McCullough since he secured an early commitment from four-star running back Aneyas Williams. McCullough wants to pair this duo in the class of 2024 and then move on to the 2025 class. I think he gets his wish. My Crystal Ball is on the Fighting Irish and I expect Notre Dame to get this one done. The other finalists are Texas A&M, TCU, Baylor and Missouri, but I like the Irish here. I expect something soon on this front. My Crystal Ball has been on Notre Dame for Fishers (Ind.) Hamilton Southeastern four-star offensive lineman Styles Prescod since Jan. 16 and I feel great about that prediction following his official visit in South Bend. Offensive line coach Joe Rudolph has done an outstanding job of making him a top priority since his arrival on staff and I believe that effort pays off. I believe Prescod connected really well with the Notre Dame commits on campus this weekend including quarterback CJ Carr, and offensive linemen Peter Jones and Anthonie Knapp, which is something Prescod was looking forward to doing. I expect something soon on this front. Notre Dame was finally able to host West Roxbury (Mass.) Catholic Memorial four-star offensive tackle Guerby Lambert over the weekend. We’ve said forever that the Fighting Irish will make a great impression once he arrives on campus and that’s exactly what took place according to what Lambert told 247Sports and what our sources have indicated. He told National Analyst Brian Dohn, “I love coach Rudolph,” which we’ve learned is a relationship that is considered one of, if not the best he has regarding coaches across the college football landscape. In addition, we’re told head coach Marcus Freeman made a great impression this weekend. My Crystal Ball remains on Notre Dame. I believe Ohio State, Boston College and others are playing catch-up right now, and the Irish have cemented themselves as the favorite from everything I’ve been told. The recruitment of Schertz (Texas) Samuel Clemens four-star safety Paul Mencke Jr. is an intriguing one. Coming out of the visit, Notre Dame is clearly the team to beat. In fact, sources inside the Gug have indicated that the Fighting Irish received strong indications of where they stand. In our post-visit interview, Mencke raved about the trip. He stated that his time with the staff was “amazing” and couldn’t say enough good things about connecting with head coach Marcus Freeman and safeties coach Chris O'Leary. However, Mencke is still kicking around taking additional visits before completely shutting things down. He’s considering visits to Duke, Washington and Stanford. Notre Dame was thinking he was shutting it down and ready to make a decision, but that may not be the case. They are still pushing hard to make that happen because he’s a top of the board target and they want him in the class. If he goes on the other visits, it’s possible that there may not be a spot in the class. Notre Dame is currently hosting safety Brauntae Johnson, who is an Irish lean, and will host safety targets Davis Andrews, Oliver Miles, Jaylen McClain and Malcolm Ziglar over the next two weeks. If two others want to jump in soon, things could get dicey since Kennedy Urlacheris already committed at the safety position. Fort Wayne (Ind.) North Side four-star safety Brauntae Johnson arrived for his official visit on Sunday. My Crystal Ball has been on the Fighting Irish for a while and I feel better about that pick than ever before. I believe he wants to be at Notre Dame and those close to him in his camp want him in South Bend. Now it’s up to Marcus Freeman and the staff to get it done. Everyone around Johnson tells him how special he can be in the secondary and he’s on board with a future at safety. Every other school wants him at receiver. We’ll see how it plays out, but I believe the Irish get this one done
No idea who any of them are, but lot of recruits being carted around campus today. So I can confirm (kinda) that ND is hosting people on campus
This staff doesn’t suffer fools when it comes to this kind of stuff. If he didn’t know then…well now he knows.
Think he and the RB both did silently, hence the Loy CB's and thoughts that news would come soon. If we are really dumping him because he is visiting Duke we will likely never get confirmation that he actually committed.
I will say, we should probably take as many S as we can and sort it out later, I don't really trust O'Leary to close big fish yet. He seems like a great coach but his crooting is suspect as hell for a young dude.
does he really seem like a great coach? Agree on taking as many safeties as you can though. Same for pretty much every other position too.
We'll know more this year but Watts looks to be developing really well. Hamilton was kind of a gimme, Brown was/is limited physically but plays sound ball. If Henderson takes off I'd be comfortable saying he's doing a really nice job once kids are on campus.
Maybe not great, but he at least earned the right to be called a good coach after what he got out of the rubble that was left after Hamilton went down in 21.
That’s a couple straight commitments essentially surprise announced, I’ll take this over the CB, then the film room, then the date set, then the breakdown…
It’s too bad Chuck couldn’t run a team or a defense. I was perusing the classes from when I first started following my recruiting and man they were elite on offense. Like 5-6 t 100 players
I was going to say those two should get married. Same thing for Al Golden and Golden Tate. It's June, let's do it.
