I think we're gonna get in. It's true that there's almost no precedent for this with the committee, though. I think we gonna get the 11 seed play-in game.
I think they're in. Jason Williams was arguing with Seth Greenberg about this. Said it's reverse to what you typically see (A good team loses a great player as the regular season winds down, and they have to make adjustments to that team without the player) but that ND gets back an All American player and it is an entirely different basketball team than what you saw from them most of the year with Colson out.
The argument against is that we shit the bed against Ball State and Indiana at full strength, so how good are we really at full strength? Winning those two damn games would have us as in instead of on the bubble. Thankfully other teams are shitting their pants right and left and we will get the "gassed" excuse for last night.
I think they are one of the top 30 or so best teams in America with everyone healthy but they had some bad losses even with everyone healthy. I won't be too upset if they miss the tourney but I will feel bad for Colson.
Not the best look, but if we reference those losses we have to toss in the win over Wichita State - a damn fine basketball team. It'll be interesting to see what they do. A precedent will be set, one way or the other IMO.
Carmody averaged 32 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks this season ... those are crazy stats for how short high school games are. Can Goodwin and Carmody come in and play next year? http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/...ia-mars-basketball-wpial/stories/201803080117
I'd be willing to bet all 4 will see significant playing time. Replace Pflueger with any of the 4 right now and we are a better team Laszewski needs to hit the weight room, but goodwin and carmody have solid builds already
Just rewatched the wake forest game, I would kill for a qb like that. You do not need to 6’3 guy with the huge arm, give me the gamer with a good enough arm to stretch the d any day. I hope book is that guy, or even better wimbush gets its head out of his ass. Wimbush should be 10 times more productive than that wake qb.
Still contend that 2015 team was national championship worthy if it were not for those final minutes if the Kentucky game...
I don't think this team does anything worth a damn if they get in. We probably deserve to be in but there isn't a single resume point anyone can point to other than the hunch that when healthy they should be a good team.
Most likely this team is done after the first weekend if we get in, but I still really really really want to get in. And you're right, there isn't a data point or precedent that says we get in. Our hope is the committee goes against history and puts us in. But some results today and yesterday aren't making it any easier
I really need someone to explain to me how brey is so good versus Kelly? And if all you have Is how expectations are so different and prestige you need to shut the fuck up because most of you say Nd is a basketball school. Nobody talked about brey messing this season because nobody cares Kelly got 10 wins And yes I might be drunk but still, brey deserves as much as Kelly? Right?
We aren't Bama, and we aren't Duke. It's about that simple. We are going to have good years, and some will be struggles.
Injuries take a bigger toll on basketball teams. I don't remember anyone thinking this year was going to be particularly good. In fact, I remember telling NilesIrish that I was waiting until next year to get season tickets for that very reason. Oh, and fuck Matt Ryan.
Brey = Mike Gundy. He’s doing as well as can be expected given his school and his recruiting base, but his successes are relatively insignificant when viewed through the lense of a school that actually expects to compete for national championships. He’s very well respected but falls short of the consensus group of best in his sport. Would probably do well at a big time program but seems content as is, at least for the time being.
The 2020 team will be the most talented team in modern ND history We will see with Brey at that point
These upsets push ND further down the bubble and their resume doesn't hold up even before that. NIT will be nice to get a couple more home games for the SR class, but luck wasn't on their side this year.
Next year's basketball team is goin to struggle. Unless these freshman can carry a heavy load right out of the gate.
I'm not sure how I feel. I think 1-2 of the freshmen will be good right away, it's a high quality class. I think our success depends on Durham.
Next year will be Gibbs-Rex-Harvey Durham-Mooney I would guess. That's not bad if Durham is any good. then you throw in Djogo and Burns and any of the freshman that can play. Like was said 2020 is the year but next year good be fun.
I don't think next year will be particularly terrible. Probably a bubble candidate IMO, which isn't an egregious baseline for our program. PG - TJ Gibbs, JR: A little disappointed he didn't fully make "the leap" down the stretch when we needed him to show up in a couple big games, but should be borderline All ACC third team type candidate if he continues progressing SG - Rex Pfleuger, SR: Is what he is at this point, I think. Solid defender who doesn't really fit into the offense but can't imagine he falls out of the lineup SF - DJ Harvey, SO: Probably the big question mark on next year's team. If he's the same player as this year, they're on the wrong side of the bubble probably, if he starts reaching his potential, they can be really good. The re-injury hurts a lot PF - John Mooney, JR: If he learns how to fucking rebound next year, he should be pretty good. He's too weak down low for how big he is C- Juwan Durhan, SO: Hard to evaluate, but hoping he's as good as his talent indicates. I think surprise of next year's team may be Djogo (JR) being a solid spark-plug off the bench. We need Burns (SR) to be able to step in to be a reliable bench player; then again a tackling dummy would probably be an improvement over Torres. Then there's probably room for one of the freshman guards to get ~10-15 mins a night. Maybe Laszewski comes in and takes Burns' bench minutes. Overall, don't imagine that's some sort of ACC bottom feeder, probably middle of the pack. Then in 2020 it's Gibbs/Harvey/Mooney/Durham/Incoming '19 Freshman with Djogo and the rest of the freshman off the bench, and that can be a top 4 ACC team.
Holy shit at this hockey game. ND takes the 1 goal lead with 30 seconds to go on an unbelievable shot
My best friend went to OSU and worked in Columbus for a few years after college before moving. Talked to him about Goodwin recently and he said he actually knows one of his relatives through work. Said that nobody but ND really had a chance because the family is huge ND supporters. I guess his dad is a head coach at a small college around Columbus, and OSU had let Dane use their facilities to train since 8th grade so he felt a ton of loyalty to them and had a ton of relationships there and committed prematurely, but he was always going to end up at ND if/when we pursued. So not sure what they are really butthurt over. I don't follow bball recruiting too closely so sorry if this is all super well known stuff.
Good write up. Harvey and Gibbs have to be the men on the team next year. No question about it. 100% agree on Djogo. If he can develop a 35-38% consistent 3pt shot, he could really be key to a good season. Burns is a mystery to me. I thought he’d get more minutes with Bonzie out. I like him. He plays hard and within himself, and he plays good defense. Tough for him with Durham coming in next year, though.
I live 45 mins from Columbus, I do not support this post. Unless we're talking about branding and ostracizing Michigan fans born in Ohio.
Just Ohio state fans, although some of them are ok. It’s weird. They love to troll but they lose their mind in the Browns thread. They miss their leader
