Not gonna lie. If we get left out so some doofus from the math department can sit on his hands I’m not gonna be happy.
Will probably be the first year in a decade buying season tickets will be the financially responsible decision based on resale value
i would go with a simple test. If you can scream your ass out for 4 hours you passed the coronavirus test and you are not at risk so you can attend the game. Too bad for the folks that can’t do it.
Feels like ND might punt on this class and over sign next year to me just fill the depth chart holes with bodies and move on Covid has wrecked this class
Hmm, basketball just announced a three game series with Kentucky - @UK in '20-'21, neutral site in '21-'22, @ND in '22-'23 Might have a shot in that neutral site game with everyone seniors next year
Gold Standard Spoiler Notre Dame’s “Big Three” Offensive Targets *** La Mesa (Calif.) Helix Charter class of 2021 quarterback Tyler Buchner has been committed to Notre Dame more than 400 days ago, and he is rock solid with his Fighting Irish pledge. In an interview with him I conducted with him on a Zoom call last week (that I’ll be publishing on BlueandGold.com this week), I asked him what there still is to discuss with the Irish staff. “The shift has been a lot less recruiting me because they don’t need to do that anymore,” he answered. “It’s been more of guys I can work on.” *** I followed by asking which prospects he has been working on the most, and he responded, “I know Rocco Spindler just released his top five. We’re in it, which is great news. I’m continuing to build the relationship there. I’ve hit up Dont’e Thornton a couple of times. He’s a great kid, super talented. I talked to Donovan Edwards a week or two ago. Those are the three I’ve mostly talked to.” *** Buchner on his sales pitch to those prospects: “I think the big thing is, ‘I’m here if you have any questions. I’m not going to bombard you.’ I know these guys are highly coveted recruits who are getting 40 text messages per day. I just let them know that Notre Dame wants them, and I’ve watched their film. ... I’ll tell them I like the way they play and, ‘Here’s my number and my Snapchat. If you need anything or have any questions, I’m always here.’ “A lot of times, they do have a question. I try not to bother kids because I’ve been through that and it can be overwhelming. I just try to be friendly.” *** Let’s now get into these three prospects specifically, as I think most who follow Notre Dame recruiting would agree that these are the three biggest offensive targets on the 2021 board. You can make an argument for Athens (Ga.) Academy’s Deion Colzie over Thornton, but the former Irish pledge is trending towards Georgia, while Notre Dame is in a good spot for Thornton. 61 NATL 4 ST 2 POS DONOVAN EDWARDS UNDECIDED 5'11" | 193 LBS | RB | 2021 WEST BLOOMFIELD WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI 5.9 The Skinny: If Notre Dame wins the Donovan Edwards sweepstakes, it will be in large part because they outlasted other schools. He was considered a lock to end up at Ohio State, but Edwards waited too long and the Buckeyes’ filled up at running back. The likes of Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma are involved as well, but the feeling is that Edwards will end up staying close to home. This very may well come down to Michigan and Notre Dame, and I fully expect both schools to recruit him hard until the end. The Irish can reach the finish line because they outlasted other programs, but they’ll have to directly beat Michigan in the Edwards’ recruitment. Notre Dame is a sneaky contender for the nation’s No. 61 player, but I do give the current edge to the Wolverines. 53 NATL 3 ST 9 POS DONT'E THORNTON JR. UNDECIDED 6'4" | 195 LBS | WR | 2021 MOUNT ST. JOSEPH BALTIMORE, MD 5.9 The Skinny: The nation’s No. 53 overall player from Baltimore placed Notre Dame among his top six schools list in May, along with Arizona State, Florida State, Oregon, USC and Virginia. I was actually texting with a colleague the night before he dropped his favorites list, and the feeling was that Oregon and Penn State were in the top two for the 6-4, 195-pounder. However, the Nittany Lions were left out of his top six, which was a surprise. I bring that point up to make this statement: This recruitment is very hard to read. Oregon does seem to be the favorite, and he has already been up to Eugene and loved it. But I’m not counting out Notre Dame here. It’s going to be a fight to the finish line. Just like with Edwards and Spindler, Thornton’s recruitment is also expected to run well throughout the fall and into the winter. 56 NATL 3 ST 3 POS ROCCO SPINDLER UNDECIDED 6'5" | 290 LBS | OG | 2021 CLARKSTON CLARKSTON, MI 5.9 The Skinny: There is really not much new here and there won’t be for a while. His top five is now official: LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Penn State. These are the schools he is expected to officially visit, and he has said time and time again that he won’t decide on his commitment until after his official visits. I do think it will come down to Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State, but even that is a toss up. I have my FutureCast pick for Notre Dame to land Spindler, but it’s not one I feel all that confident in. New FutureCast Pick In For Notre Dame *** This morning, I placed a Rivals FutureCast pick for Ewa Beach (Hawai’i) Campbell class of 2021 athlete Titus Mokiao-Atimalala to land at Notre Dame. This is what I’d call a projection pick, compared to me tossing in a FutureCast because I believe they’re about to commit to Notre Dame. There is more movement to be made in Mokiao-Atimalala’s recruitment, but from what I’ve gathered from recent conversations with sources and with the four-star prospect himself, I really like where the Irish stand. *** I was able to catch up with the 6-1, 165-pounder over the weekend, and he informed me that Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame and UCLA are the schools in contact with him the most. Maryland is a dark-horse contender with some of his connections there, including quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa — a close family friend — transferring from Alabama to the Terrapins this offseason. Notre Dame very may well be pushing for him the hardest, though, and my sources on the Irish side of things rave about Mokiao-Atimalala each time the four-star prospect comes up. *** Notre Dame loves his talent at safety, but they’re also more than open to him playing at nickel or on offense at wide receiver. “It’s super cool,” Mokiao-Atimalala said. “It gives me an opportunity to get on the field faster. They have all of these positions that I could play. I think it’s tight.” - NATL 3 ST 49 POS TITUS MOKIAO-ATIMALALA UNDECIDED 6'1" | 165 LBS | WR | 2021 CAMPBELL EWA BEACH, HI 5.8 *** Mokiao-Atimalala doesn’t plan to announce any major decisions in his recruitment soon. He has been able to visit UCLA, but he hasn’t seen the other main schools in contention. He hasn’t been on more than two or three college visits in general and wants to experience the recruiting process. He was going to officially visit Nebraska and Notre Dame in June, but those visits being cancelled has pushed his timeline back. *** Like I said, this is a projection pick. But with how hard the Notre Dame staff, led by recruiting coordinator Brian Polian and assisted by defensive coordinator Clark Lea and head coach Brian Kelly, have worked on Motiao-Atimalala, I believe they’ll ultimately win the recruitment. Mokiao-Atimalala has some strong Notre Dame ties, too, as his cousin is Irish defensive tackle Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa. He is also friends with former Irish defensive back Alohi Gilman and current Notre Dame linebacker Marist Liufau. He’s also familiar with Notre Dame freshman vyper Jordan Botelho. Q&A With Top Notre Dame Target’s Father Our Penn State rivals website passed along their Q&A with Todd Rucci, the father of Lititz (Pa.) Warwick offensive tackle Nolan Rucci , who is a major Notre Dame offensive tackle target. Check out the notable parts of the Q&A below. As the father of one of the nation’s most sought-after prospects, what’s this situation been like for your son and your family? I know Nolan was getting bombarded with calls at one point. What’s it been like over the past two months? Todd Rucci: “It was a little out of hand prior to him narrowing his schools. That was the whole point of him doing that. It was getting overwhelming and stressful for everyone in the house. Between all of us, we were spending around five hours a day on calls. But once we narrowed the field a bit, that helped. “Also, I think coaches have come to understand that he’s not someone that needs to be contacted every day for two hours just to be told how great he is. We’ve kind of told schools to get in touch with us once a week and if they have something pertinent or it’s meaningful conversation, let’s do it. “So, I think once we focused in and the teams got a better understanding for what kind of kid he is, that helped a lot.” 36 NATL 2 ST 6 POS NOLAN RUCCI UNDECIDED 6'8" | 287 LBS | OT | 2021 WARWICK LITITZ, PA 6.0 What have all the Zoom conversations been like? Has any school done anything unique? What has Nolan really learned from all the video calls? Rucci: “I think the academic meetings that we’ve done have been great. We’ve been able to meet with advisors and professors and have spent time talking to them about everything that would go into him being an aerospace engineer. We’ve also been fortunate enough to talk to players at different programs, including some that have linemen in the engineering department. That was the case at a couple different schools. “So, the Zoom calls with them have been good for Nolan. It’s given him a player-to-player feel for how it’s done and what kind of time commitment he’s looking at. I know Penn State had him speak with Michal Menet and Will Fries not that long ago. “We’ve also had some cool virtual tours. I’ll say that Stanford did a really cool call with a couple different coaches on a golf cart. They basically just zipped around campus, explained the different buildings, quads, all of that. It was out own personal tour of campus, so that was pretty cool, but all of his schools have done different things to help us out during this.” I know Nolan plans to take his time and not set any dates for a decision. Can you just elaborate on your talks with him about his commitment timeline? Rucci: “We’re just encouraging him to take his time and not make this decision any more difficult than it needs to be. When the time comes, he’ll be ready. Our goal, from a parent’s perspective, is to not make this a stressful environment. “He’s in a fortunate position. We’re very thankful knowing that the offers he has will probably still be there in a few months, so there’s no reason not to take your time with this. The most important thing is to make sure you make the right decision. We just want him to take his time with the decision and when he is ready to commit, that will be the end of the process.” For more on Rucci, click here to read my story on him from May.
I'm surprised Mike Brey has remained silent during this whole situation. Seems like our other high profile people have spoken up and I would have thought Mike would be one to speak up
He's been a heavy drinker for a while. I've heard countless stories from industry people in Granger about him closing bars crazy drunk.
Is it true that ND has never played at Navy? That’s crazy. I would have figured there was a game back in the 50s or whenever. I understand recent reasons though
What are the odds it gets moved from Sat. the 29th? I can see Jack & Co. trying to push it to Monday night like they did with Texas a few years ago.
They’re planning on keeping the Navy attendance to less than 20k, so I wonder how they (and everyone else) figures out where they draw that line with who gets in and who doesn’t.
That makes more sense. I’m sure Tom Rees will have everyone up to speed anyway but the extra week of prep doesn’t hurt.
don’t mind if I do i was doing a rewatch of the Georgia game, after a big play and first down eichenberg takes a late hit penalty. On the next play he false start.
LoL Staying at the Morris Inn is pretty sweet for them. When you stay there they have those notes that if you like the bath robe or the throw at the end of the bed go ahead and keep it and we'll charge the room. They are going to run up quite a tab on incidentals
i'm no longer living there, but at the pool at my old place, the football players had a massive pool party today. so they are definitely not social distancing which is great
I also forgot about that screen play in the Georgia game where banks just ran around and missed two guys he was supposed to at least try to block, but he just jogged around like a fucking idiot.
Following the Bama plan of getting everyone sick now so it's no longer a concern come kickoff. I like it.
