Senior year in high school. Administration decided the wisest course was to carry on as normal and prohibit news broadcasts during class hours. Too big of a :airquote:distraction.:airquote: The cool teachers were like  and flipped the coverage on pronto.

10th grade and was leaving my first class to go to homeroom. Just looked like some idiot had flown into the tower when I caught a glimpse of a TV on my way out. Didn't really think much of it until I got to my second class and the rest of the day all of my classes consisted of watching the news coverage. I remember talking with one of my neighbors later that evening, while we talked I just kept thinking the world had changed and how weird the whole day was.

7th grade. I remember vaguely watching it on TV in the classroom. Then they came over the intercom and said "The President wants everyone to say the pledge of allegiance at such-and-such time."

I remember being at my house the following weekend and watching the workers clean up the debris. I feel like most major news outlets had 24-hour coverage for a week or two.

After the first plane hit, we rolled in an old school TV to watch the news. Saw the 2nd plane hit. Had no clue how to feel or what to do.

Specifically remember, my mom driving home past a house with an American flag up and her stopping by the mailbox it to recognize our country. Had no effect or feeling on me as a 5th grader but feels great now.

4th grade. Didn't know it happened until after school when my Mom wouldn't let me go over to a friend's. I remember being scared to go to the park later night. I was a nervy little kid and must have thought the next target would be the junglegym or something.

I had a reoccurring dream like once a week for months during the spring and summer where I was laying bed in my room which was super bright, flipping channels and every station had buildings burning. They eventually stopped and I figured whatever I was subconsciously dealing with get resolved and I forgot about the dreams

On the 11th I woke up from a dead sleep at 6am (I still lived on the west coast at the time) which was odd because I worked late at the time and didn't even go to bed until about 3. When I woke up I turned on the TV instead of just going back to sleep which was also odd. every channel was the towers burning. My room was situated right under a huge pine tree, the only time it would get direct sunlight through the window was the early morning before the window would be shaded by the tree so it was super bright in the room.

I didn't even realize it until I was packing stuff up 5 years later to move to the east coast and found a notebook that I used to write in when I woke up with a dream fresh in my memory. I found that I wrote that scene down numerous times months before September. Freaked me the fuck out

I think I posted this before but I slept through majority of 9-11. I was working a long 3rd shift so I'd get home at 630-7 est am. Normally at that time, I'd eat, smoke a bong then just go to sleep. Roommate came home at 330P screaming at the TV. I rolled out of bed like ."WTF mate".

Seriously thought I was in a dream the rest of the day.

    I was in basic training.

It was the "final event" of the first part of basic, so we were all out in the field. I remember we were supposed to have all these things going on, but there was just... nothing. We hadn't heard from the Drill Sergeants all morning, and we were just sitting in the fox holes we built the night before waiting for something to happen.

Finally the First Sergeant called a mass formation and said announced anyone with family in NYC or DC needed to fall out of the formation immediately. They took those Soldiers away before saying anything to the rest of us. He then announced the attack had happened to those of us remaining.

Honestly, a lot of us didn't believe him at first, because it's a common trick the DS's played on Soldiers when they're out in the field so they take the training more seriously. Like they'll announce the US has declared war on China or something. I remember us sitting around talking and saying there is no way a plane could bring down buildings like that, or one would get close enough to fly into the Pentagon without getting shot down. I know I didn't fully believe until my DS took me with him back to the rear for supplies and he called in into the CQ office to show me footage on CNN. Basic got a lot more serious after that day.

I'll also never forget the DS's afterwards screaming at all of the Guard and Reservists, "ALL OF YOU MOTHER FUCKERS WHO JOINED FOR FREE COLLEGE, GUESS WHAT? YOUR ASS IS GOING TO WAR!"

I was watching a show earlier about September 10th and the morning of the 11th with a bunch of video from the day. The challenging democrat and his supporters were talking about how it looked like he was going to win unless "a catastrophic event swung things back the other way". Oops.

College, left Quantitative Reasoning class, got in my car and Howard Stern was talking about a plane hitting a building, thought they were talking about when a B52 hit one back in the 40s. Went to a nursing course then went to eat lunch with my Dad and ended up glued to the TV until football practice. Went to a recruiter that night and talked about options

I was in 7th grade, my Dad woke my sister and I up and told us something bad had happened in New York. Watched the TV long enough to see the towers collapse, then had to walk to the bus to go to school. Our school got evacuated about an hour after I got there because we were a quarter mile down the street from JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory), and I guess the government deemed that to be a potential target.

7th grade in homeroom setting up for our teacher's birthday party. She came in dead silent as we all yelled Happy Birthday went to the tv turned it on without a word, and sat down at her desk and cried. We all looked at each other perplexed then we watched the tv shortly there after we saw the 2nd plane hit. The intercom told all teachers to turn off their tv's, but all my teachers said screw that they need to witness this day in history.

I love how many of our teachers defied their administrations’ orders to turn off TVs.

Such a fucking cowardly act to try to shield teenagers and young adults from something they had to immediately know would affect our entire world.

Was in 8th grade. Our school decided not to tell us until the end of the day. Kids were getting pulled out of school left and right so people started speculating why. A rumor went around that there was a hit list in our school and my good friend was talking about that rumor with someone and a teacher overheard and thought he said he had a hit list. He got sent to the principals office and his locker and his stuff got searched. Our final class of the day was history and our teacher told us she wasnt supposed to tell us what happened but she thought it was a disservice to us not to, so we watched the news during the whole last hour of school.

I was in the Air Force and on 3rd shift at the time. Had just gotten back to my dorm when they knocked on my door and told me we had been attacked and I had 30 minutes to report with my go bag. I had only been on my base about 3-4 months at the time. I thought they were fucking with me or was some kind of response drill. Didn’t find out until I reported that it was real.

At about 11 it came over the intercom if you wanted to watch what was going on because they knew teachers had filled us. You could go to the library where they had a few TV's set up. I was one of about 50 students that went to library and we just watched in horror and sadness until school was dismissed early.

Sitting outside N101 in Callaway Building at Emory waiting for my Lucretius class to start. Professor showed up around 8:50 and announced a plan had crashed. Several class members from the New York area asked to be excused to call home and make sure everyone was OK. Professor cancelled class and we all ran to Cox Hall where there were TVs set up in a little lounge area. Most of the other 9:00 classes were cancelled and the crowd around the TVs gradually grew. I got there about a minute before the second plane hit. Remember my friend Jill crying and frantically calling home (from Long Island) and not being able to get through because all lines were busy. Stayed with her and walked around the outside of Cox Hall for about an hour, before campus was evacuated because of proximity to the CDC. Went back to my apartment where about 12 friends had gathered and just sat in front of the TV as more reports including Pentagon attack and Shanksville crash came in. Long, sad day.

I was in 6th grade. We had a kid in our school whose father worked in the WTC (he got out). In order to not scare that kid, they told us nothing. Totally normal day. I walked home and through the door of my house to see the replay of the towers collapsing on the living room TV. My mom was crying. I told her I was gonna go play basketball with my friends and she told me that no, tonight we were going to church.

That night, our pastor tried to comfort everyone and at one point opened up the floor for people to stand and give their thoughts. I was only 12 but I'll never forget this lady standing up and sayin "I know I am supposed to turn the other cheek and forgive the people who did this. But I hate them...and I cannot forgive them." I think it was the first time I had experienced, first hand, righteous anger. I didn't really understand the geopolitical implications of what was happening outside of "the bad guys attacked the good guys so the good guys need to go beat them!" but I could tell it was a huge deal and I was angry and saddened by the whole thing. As we left to go home I asked my dad what was going to happen and he told me "the world is going to change, buddy."

Its so weird to look back on it because in college I was a camp counselor at a summer camp and had a ton of kids who were either born after 9/11 or were too young to remember it. They asked me and other counselors what it was like. To them, it was like Vietnam was to me. Just an abstract historical concept removed completely from experience.

I was in 11th grade English class. We heard commotion in the hallway, were told to turn the TV on which we did, and then watched in the next 30 seconds the 2nd tower get hit.

It felt like I was watching Die Hard or some movie.
