Very House of Cards-Esque
I was in bed during the first plane strike. I was a senior in high school and didn't have classes till later in the morning. My mom woke me up when the second plane struck. That's when she knew it was deliberate.
I remember thinking someone was overreacting because "terrorism" was such a movie-word. I couldn't believe it.
I got dressed and went to school. When I got there, I walked into my history class about two minutes after reports came out that the Pentegon was hit.
That's when I got really scared. If it was just one location, you can be scared and worried and not understand, etc, but it's localized in one spot. When they break-in the news to say now DC has been hit, that's when you think "oh shit this is World War III."
I legit thought bombs would start sailing and the country was about to go to war like Europe in the 40's.
Freshman year of high school in home room. Didn't grasp the severity at the time as I was naive as to how important the towers were. Just thought a plane hit a building (which is absolutely awful, but wasn't aware the impact it would have). Remember watching it on tv for pretty much the whole day.
You should have kneeled
So uhhh my team wanted to go there for lunch today.
The manager asked everyone to go outside at promptly noon for a memorial service.
There was an officer from FSUPD on the back of a trailer solemnly singing the national anthem under an American flag draped from the ladder of a firetruck.
To the side is a steel beam from one of the WTC towers and some other memorabilia. Some troops are there to do a processional.
We go inside and my boss asks where we all were that day. I tell her I was in my 7th grade roller coaster design course. My youngest employee answers that she was 2 years old with a shrug.
I feel like I just lived through a fucking Fox News segment. I’m just praying none of the press snapped a photo of me because I was doing my best to just look stoic.
This is how you content.
This is amazing.
Some of you fuckers are ridiculous
Found the guy who stands at Mission BBQ
Tell us which ones
Specifically the people making fun of 9/11 being 18 years old and we should just forget about it. It takes some major balls to run into a 100 story building that’s on fire. To each their own I guess
Take a deep breath and try not to let yourself get upset by people trying to have real discussions
And try again
Objectively one of the best tweets to ever exist.
what in the goddamned fuck. where is this at?
Love MY PRESIDENT!
That tweet was when he became president.
5th grade and was sad I didn't get pulled out of school. "Terrorism" doesn't really resonate with a 10 year old - so I remember being more upset that all the TV channels, even cartoon network, had cut away from programming and were talking about it all night.
Cartoon Network is the last channel that should have been preempted.
Was it really? Who/what was on? CNN?
I feel like I remember literally every channel being turned to news coverage that day.
Mission BBQ video is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen.
This is like equating kaep kneeling to mean troop disrespect
It's like North Korea level brainwashing
It is the most forced patriotism I have ever endured. The brisket sandwich was alright.
4.5/10 would not recommend
I vividly remember listening to Ja Rule on MTV
GoodForAnother why can’t I use emojis
You follow Betty Boop? You wild, cuz.
that’s not how twitter works
Long thread about all the insane/stupid/illegal bullshit we did following 9/11. This one is a doozy.
It is the only account I follow
So, what’s the consensus? The first responders, and after should be memorialized. The victims and their families deserve a day of remembrance also. Fuck the politics side of it, just for a bit. Families, households, mentors and parental figures gone.
Edit: I had a point, walked the dog and now looking at my own post asking what the fuck? No point, tired, drank enough for no reason. :
They would play hide and go seek with the dogs in the wreckage of the twin towers. Many of the dogs were trained to find live humans, but they were only finding death; they became depressed. Finding living humans during hide and go seek helped their spirits.
Why would you think very few even remember the death of 225k people in Asia? Just curious.
Do you really think the steel beam is from one of the trade center towers?
lol what a dumb as fuck video
because no one talks about it.
If you want to quantify that lack of interest in comparison to 9/11:
per state the ratio runs 92-97% searches for the wtc attacks vs 3-8% for the tsunami and earthquake.
his 9/11 piece that iirc was published on espn page 2 was his last really great article
