I've been thinking about joining the rugby club at school. However, I'm 6'0" and 155lbs, and I don't really want to put in all the work/money to get back up to 185... It's really hard for me to put on weight.
When I lived in England, I really got into Rugby Union, and even played inside centre for my HS team. The team I supported was Bath, and they were solid at the time, but have since fell a bit from grace. I even went to a few of their matches, and some other teams' matches as well. Great sport, but I haven't followed it much the last 10 years though.
well luckily bbc America are showing the 6 nations this year, if you are all interested and I'll be running a 6 nations thread on the soccer board with streams of games etc.
I know. I was up to 185 four years ago, but I had to eat 6 solid meals and workout everyday. It got pretty expensive and time consuming.
one of my friends plays rugby and we were supposed to go play with some people last saturday but everyone was to hungover. But I am interested I rented to video game like 4 years ago and want to learn how to play.
I've never been exposed to it much except some shwag from the Black Shirts and Russell Crowe's team the Rabbitons or whatever from my old man's last teaching stint down under. Last winter some guy I was shooting the shit with at a local bar gave me his card. Apparently he's an assistant coach on the local club team. I kept meaning to investigate it but never did. For the guys that play, would you recommend checking it out if you're 24 and never played before?
I watch it on occasion but I really dont understand some of the rules so i normally dont know what the fuck is going on
I like watching it. Never had a chance to play it, though. And VoodooChild, eat something for sake. I don't eat that much and I managed to gain weight out of the anorexic zone.
*perk* If there's going to be rugby, I may have to alter my plans. Used to love Australian Rules football as a kid on ESPN. Rugby's close to that. I like.
Interested in it, but still don't know much about it. Try to randomly stumble upon games every one in a while when I spot them on atdhe or whatever. Some of it's a bit confusing, but I'm sure I will pick it up if I watch it enough times.
but the guy who approached me about it said that there were fatties and skinnies. I'm like 5'9" 165 and he said that would be a skinny. My assumption was that if you're little you gotta be fast because if a fatty catches you it's gonna hurt. Haha, like I said though, just from that one conversation.
You already know I cant wait for the Six Nations and now that BBC America is carrying the games it will make it that much easier to watch them.
Yea, I figured there were some big sumbitches just for the scrums and little shifty bastards that just try to outrun everyone. I love watching it because it's a giant clusterfuck and the tries are usually pretty spectacular.

USA Rugby South vs. New South Wales 2007 Pictures from our game last week. http://www.flickr.com/photos/tonymarable/sets/72157623273778762/ we play Emory tomorrow
we were actually one of the first teams in GA. the first of three in 2005. it grew in four years to be 25 and some really good rugby played by some schools. In 2007 we got third in the Southeast and 2008 we got second by only 4 points in the SOutheast. I still blame one player and Mormonism for our loss that day.
Well thats the plan. This isn't really about playing its about understanding and hopefully enjoying it..
I played for Nebraska for 3 years. Played hooker. Game is great. Buddy of mine just made the final 12 for the USA 7s. Going to be playing in Vegas. Wish I could go.
Cal beat Stanford 99-0 today Apparently we actually played our starters for the first 15 minutes. Just thought it was ; Stanford isn't really our rival in rugby, University of British Columbia is.
international rugby guys....can anyone tell me about this team or league? http://www.swansearfc.co.uk/news_view.php?news_id=970 the guy in the picture was a guy i played with in highschool. last i talked with him he said we was just waiting for a visa to play with the ospreys.
My brother played for a semi-pro type team while he was living in New Zealand. He coaches it in Knoxville and helped get it in the high schools there. I got drilled about playing when I was at Tennessee cause I was his younger brother, but I never did cause they play on Saturdays in the fall a lot. One of our good buddies played for the USA Sevens for a little bit. Guy was an absolute nut and got more pussy than anyone I've ever met.
Played in high school and at Ohio U. The year after I graduated high school, our team made it to the U-19 sweet 16 and ended up playing Highland in the tourney. Ngata was only in for about 15 minutes, but that's all they needed. I'm pretty sure they beat our team by 11 or 12 trys without even really trying.
It's growing, but still has long way to go. I just wish our national side was better. I remember a few years back the Springboks C-side came over and just whipped the shit out of the Eagles.
How good of shape do I need to be in to start playing? I saw a game in Australia last summer (NSW v. Queensland) and it looked crazy fun. I am 5"9 185 and pretty bulky, but I do not have great cardiovascular endurance. Will this be a big problem?
Conditioning is the biggest part. There really is no downtime. Try it out. Skers. If anything the parties are worth all your troubles. pm me if you got any questions. Played 3 years for Nebraska just graduated last year so i still have some connections.
All the best athletes are playing football, basketball, or baseball. Then there's hockey, soccer, tennis, winter sports, volleyball, skateboarding, track and field, water polo, etc. There's only so many athletes to go around.
anyone interested in watching some rugby should watch. they're really trying to get the US excited for this sport now that it will be in the Olympics.
