That Chelsea/James rumor was basically the Spanish press seeing cesc didn't play, knowing James isn't a key player for zidane and floating the idea of real and Chelsea swapping them. I don't think real wants cesc and even though James is a great player I don't think he fits into what conte wants in the midfield and would run into the same problems cesc has even though I think James is better
