How many of those past potential matchups weren't rematches? It would really depend on which games are made permanent rather than rotating
1. Add 2 teams (let's say for hypothetical sake it's ND and OU because it would be awesome) 2. Divisions are... - ND, Illinois, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Oklahoma - Rutgers, Maryland, PSU, OSU, Michigan, MSU, Purdue, Indiana 3. Go back to "Leaders/Legends" names, with the former East division obviously being named "Legends". 4. Only games against division opponents count against league record, but each team plays three crossover games per season (no protected games) that count towards non-conference 5. Winners of each division player for B1G title at end of season This is a scenario that would make me get behind the divisions/title game thing. Doesn't seem that hard.
I'm well aware this year isn't a great example. but MSU-Iowa and Wisconsin-Ohio State are good examples
does anybody, without looking it up, know the previous Leaders/Legends divisions? that was such a stupid idea, one only the B1G would come up with. we just need to realign because the divisions are so uneven right now. F it, realign every 5-10 years if different programs are going thru spells.
Leaders: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin Legends: Iowa, Michigan, MSU, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern Legends = M's, N's, and Iowa was the easiest way to remember it.
Divisions are dumb, conference title games are dumb. What I like most about no divisions is there are less gaps between playing teams (we had a six-year gap in playing Wisconsin) and in playing at certain schools (haven’t been to Illinois since 2011 or Nebraska since 2012). You get 2-3 guaranteed games per year and rotate the other 6-7 instead of having six guaranteed games per year. That will even up schedules across the board. You won’t have years like Iowa had in 2015 where it avoided both Michigan schools, Ohio State and Penn State in the regular season.
Ohio State and Michigan need to never play twice. It’s our conference and it’s our rules and you’re all just going to have to deal with it
While the names of the divisions were stupid at least in that format the divisions were somewhat equal.
Right and Iowa didn't have to play any of those teams in 2014 either. From 2011-2018 Iowa has only had to play Ohio St twice, and from 2019-2025 they meet 3 times. So in a 15 year period Iowa only has to play Ohio St 5 times. I bet Nebraska has to play Ohio St 10 times in that same time period. The unbalance of schedules is dumb.
I like the divisions how they are because I like playing OSU, Michigan, MSU every year. I do agree it would be nice to more consistently play each team in the west though but I don't want to sacrifice playing those 3 teams every year for that, personally. Also, west is going to be brutal in the next year or 2 imo. Coaching talent has improved tremendously and the recruiting and speed has been bumped up with the additions of Fleck, Frost, and Brohm. Each of those schools has legit skill talent and speed they are bringing in and I think it's going to make for a fun division with alot of competition. I think this year's Wisconsin effort is going to be a sign of things to come and I think they are going to take a big step back to the pack with the other programs stepping up the speed advantages over them. Iowa is just always going to be Iowa and Illinois sucks.
My view too, if you want to recruit nationally, you have to play big games that you might lose. I would rather play Oklahoma in nonconference and Penn State in division, even if that means a loss sometimes.
He was supposed to. He had some kind of mystery knee surgery early in the season and I believe only played 5 games this year (ND, UW, PSU, MSU, IU). He was the best DT on the team, IMO, but missed a lot of time with either injury or (seems reasonable to speculate since he's transferring) other stuff behind the scenes. This is a huge loss moving forward. Not really any other way to spin it.
Yeah, about two weeks ago we started heavily pursuing this guy. Now it makes sense why. https://247sports.com/player/jared-harrison-hunte-46052796/
he was/is thought to be a silent to PSU for all fall now but he's still got a couple visits left so who really knows. Would say we are still the favorites at the moment.
I haven't seen anything even hinting at the possibility, although I hadn't seen anything to suggest Solomon was considering leaving, either. By several accounts, Black was talking with WR Cornelius Johnson on a visit last weekend trying to recruit him to UM. Saw some comments in November on social media that suggested Black was frustrated by a lack of targets after he came back from injury, but I don't see him transferring because of that.
Probably. Our pets heads are falling off. And he’d have to give it serious consideration given the offensive use of WR
I'm not sure how a guy who has played 8 games in 2 years because he's broken his foot a couple times has much of a gripe about usage rates, but it's 2018 and a lot of players everywhere just seem to be looking for reasons to transfer at this point.
With a “mystery knee surgery” does the doctor spin a giant wheel as you enter the surgery room? Whatever the wheel lands on is the surgery you get?
Because they have no intention, based on what we’ve seen this far, to actually utilize 3 WR in significant ways and he’s behind 2 others because of those injuries. They even rolled out Jake McCoury in a critical point against OSU. The usage rates of any WR including DPJ and Collins is dumb. I’d look around too if I was him.
I have no clue how you guys don't land top RB's, TE's and OL every year. I also have no clue how you do land any top WR.
Prior to this season, could have said the same about OSU and WRs, and their WRs have been significantly more highly regarded most years. UM has recruited reasonably well at OL and TE. For whatever reason, they haven't been able to recruit RBs for a while until Charbonnet this year.
