Row the GPA!
Pretty sure most schools just handed out As because COVID
Google Classroom Participation Trophies and whatnot
Do Iowa fans even want Ferentz to stay? He’s certainly not a bad coach, but Iowa should be able to compete with Wisconsin better for division titles. Some new younger blood would be good for that program imo.
I want Bert roaming the Iowa sidelines as HC so badly
Who would we even be able to get? Michigan St was only able to get Mel Tucker.
Iowa doesn’t have a lot of home grown talent. Could easily make the wrong hire and become Indiana or Purdue.
Yes, he would have broken our all time receiving yards and receptions records this year if he stayed. He never really meshed with the new coaching staff, all his friends are gone now, they wanted him to be more of a leader, who knows.
He also hasn’t graduated and already used his redshirt so will only be able to play elsewhere if he gets a waiver. I’m guessing that should be easier to do with covid and everything going on, though.
But we have known he was gone since he left the school at the beginning of March. It’s definitely not good for our football team this fall, but we have had months to come to grips with it.
A lot of that had to do with the timing of Dan Antonio’s stepping down
That crossed my mind. Still seems really high.
I’ve used Blu Tang Clan ‘s DeLorean which doubles as a time machine to see this presser....cliff notes inbound;
-nothing to see here
-We will investigate the allegations about Doyle
- three black Iowa players nod in unison
- the end
I was just about to pull a Karen and file a police report, but now I don't have to.
I’d very much like Kirk Ferentz to quit or be fired, but I’ve always had this feeling that he’ll die in office.
God, what a shit press conference. Fuck Ferentz.
Brendan White is pretty good. I wish he would have stayed.
Getting 1.1 million to fall on the sword for Ferentz
Pretty lame that they didn’t just fire him (Doyle), really kind of cheapens the message
The part that I don't understand is Doyle wasn't doing this to do it. He's enforcing what Ferentz wants done. Seems weird to get rid of Doyle but keep Ferentz
Kirk makes a lot more money
So do Iowa donorsfarmers
Ridiculous. Fuck Barta, too.
Bunch of mental midgets posting about this termination. Listen, KF effectively fired Doyle and the university did it in the quickest, least expensive manner.
I’d prefer this way to the Michigan State method of a lawsuit and battling it out through the press. Avoiding a Curtis Blackwell, he said/she said situation is the right route.
Shut the fuck up. Kirk Ferentz isn’t being held accountable for a god damn thing. They were forced to let Doyle go for PR reasons and stuffed his pocket as much as possible as they walked him out. They’re hoping this all gets quiet by fall.
agreed upon separation*
The second sentence is what I don’t like. Comes off as prioritizing financial impact over the message they are sending about his actions. If his behavior was bad enough that you feel compelled to fire him, fire him and announce that you are firing him because of X, Y, and Z.
Negotiating a settlement and just letting him quietly leave sends a different message publicly.
I've been told by many prominent hawkeye posters and fans that they do not like Kirk Ferentz and that he should also be terminated for his documented history of racial insensitivity and discriminatory behavior.
HERKY your thoughts
You don’t like KF, got it. You also clearly don’t understand how employment contracts work. I understand you probably haven’t signed one of those but attempt to think critically, just one time.
The last time Racer and the word prominent were used in the same sentence was in a police report detailing the affects of his meth use.
I mean, this doesn’t come off like they are admonishing anything he has done. Wishing him well and no mention of why he is leaving.
Not a great look. I thought Iowa had handled this really well until this move today.
It isn’t right that Doyle gets a $1M+ check on his way out the door.
unfortunately that was the university’s preference to defending a termination in court. I see both sides but don’t blame the university for just wanting a clean break during the most destabilizing period in higher education in recent memory.
Again, not defending Doyle and his lack of character, but this isn’t a criminal matter. He lacked the values UI wanted in its football program moving forward (as they should). There’s a need for accountability and that is ongoing. I do think KF was part of the problem and can be part of the solution. As much as message board cynics can assume that most multimillionaire CFB coaches are scumbags, KF has built a lot of credibility IMO.
I’d be more okay with a settlement to avoid court case if they had come out strongly against his actions in their statement. Instead there was no mention of any wrongdoing and well wishes like he’s retiring from old age.
I also don’t think KF needs to be let go.
Agree with that, posted my thoughts before I read that. Seems like a move to “keep it in the family”
If your takeaway from the MSU response to recent scandals was that a university should act to protect itself from legal liability and reputational damage before doing the right thing, you may not be as much of a critical thinker as you think you are.
You’re right, good post and I agree. I was talking or thinking more specifically about the Blackwell case, not the other scandals.
I’ll also admit to not knowing a ton about that case other than it seemed liked a lot of info, whether true or false, being leaked to the press.
Ok. Let’s move on.
Suck my dick #Michigan State Spartans
HERKY Gary Barta just admitted that they paid him a million dollars even though he was up for a contract renewal July first and chose to give him that payout and benefits anyway.
What a joke.
Also, anyone thinking Doyle treated players like this without KF’s backing is a fool. Doyle and all strength coaches act how their coaches want them to/enforce what they want. KF is just as much a problem in this as Doyle
The case was thrown out by the judge, Blackwell’s attorney’s were fined, forced to resign as his attorneys and now are facing Bar hearings. MSU didn’t settle because majority of the allegations were false and so the attorneys leaked a bunch of BS to the media with the deliberate attempt to try and make MSU settle. Reporters (one specifically) ran with the bad information and reported it.
Now Blackwell is left with nothing and his legal team had to foot the bill for the court fees and MSU’s attorneys.
He had 2 years left on his contract I'm pretty sure. Just renewed it not too long ago.
They were obligated to 90 days.
Perhaps we can swap the MAC schools for the ACC schools in “buy games” in the non con in the future.
