I’m asking how he intends to enter a portal that I thought didn’t open until December unless he’s just waiting until December? Or maybe nothing matters I guess
I saw the NCAA set up a 1 time portal window for those who basically are getting cut for roster number/rev sharing purposes. Not sure how that dude qualifies.
I’m going to guess the big 12 gets substantially less teams in the field over the lifecycle of the next contract in a 5+11 model than they would have in a 4-4-2-2 and Yormark’s advocacy for the 5+11 model seems to be purely out of hubris. It’s a shame, because this is assuredly leading to about 7 teams per year from the SEC.
Getting two teams in for the Big 12 probably means needing at least two to get to 11 wins or an undefeated team getting upset in the title game. Seems like that is going to be a very rare feat considering there's not much separating the top of the league from the bottom.
And that’s the thing, if they go to a more SoS focused seeding criteria as the SEC has pushed for, it’s going to further divide the selection and seeding.
btw, here is the 5+11 (really 6+10 for 2014-23) retroactively applied The BXII would have received a total of 25 bids; OU and Texas account for 10 of the 25
agreed. the BXII hasn't had a 1 loss champ not named Oklahoma or Texas since 2014 when TCU and Baylor split the title at 11-1
we might be watching the CFB we all know and love dissolve into pure corporate greed but at least it's given us the pop tarts mascots. i love them.
Right, you basically need a 2022 TCU/K State scenario to happen. It's an extremely narrow path to more than one without some very weird scenarios playing out.
I want the 4-4-2-2-1 with emphasis on conference play and the play in games on what was conference championship weekend
Yeah I was originally against any auto qualifiers but then listened to some stuff about it and frankly it seems like it achieves what I think are the goals of the sport much better and also ensures access. Also takes the committee and that subjectivity out of it and it’s clear what teams have to do going into the season to make the field. I loved the idea of the play-ins with my only complaint, they should be true play in and if you lose that you are out. I don’t like that 16 allows the back door open for teams to lose the conference play ins and still get in. That said I still think it is a vastly better model. Oh well. I just liked the emphasis on the conference races much more than the tired comparisons across conferences with minimal data points.
while I'm not fond of being able to lose and still get in, I do like that everyone is on more even footing (number games) and I would prefer to let a team in who did lose than using an at large on someone who didn't even make play in weekend having that in place in case a 3 loses to the 6 and they were 11-1 or 10-2 on the year seems fair in the grand scheme. they wouldn't use the at large on some 9-4 team, at least I hope not
Yes that’s my other complaint with 5+11. Everyone should be playing the same number of games. Either everyone plays on championship weekend that’s in contention or no one does and we eliminate conf titles entirely.
Its going to be 5+11 until 2030 now that there is only 1 conference that wants AQs. Once the SEC catered to the overwhelming public backlash against multiple autos, that debate was finished. Dan Wetzel wrote the best argument against AQs. and I would bet the 2030 cfb structure probably one does 1 auto per division winner, you look around the rest of the sporting landscape and there's really no tangible evidence in favor of it.
The funny thing about that overwhelming public backlash was due to people thinking it was the SEC and the Big Ten just trying to take over the sport when in reality a 4-4-2-2-1 will likely prove to be significantly more equitable to the entirety of the sport than 5+11. I can’t wait to hear people complain when it’s 7 SEC, 5 B1G, ND, ACC, B12, G5
Yea very likely it means the SEC/B1G eat more than just their 8 some years. But the notion/concept of that many guarantees before a competition plays out is just foreign to sport entirely, and particularly to an American audience. Its really only present with FIFA international competitions. Makes sense that sentiment would be more in favor of what they see in the NFL or March Madness. its all moot now though, as Yormark pointed out. Really just defining underlying details of the 5+!1 now.
