I read a while back they are keeping their chicken sandwich only spot open so I guess that's something.
Just checked and yea looks like they still live. That's good, that's the one thing on their menu I'd really miss.
lived there for 2.5 years and went to buxton numerous times and never had their bbq. i love bbq and am sure it was awesome but once it came time to order, i couldn’t pass on that sandwich
Yea if I'm being honest, pork is pork to me. The only one I can say was really different was Scott BBQ whole hog. Regular pulled pork off a pork shoulder is just meh to me. That chicken sandwich though.
Chimney Rock itself was pretty meh but the little town around it was pretty neat. Think we're headed to Boone tomorrow and Beech on Friday. Was supposed to snow in Beech tomorrow but looks like maybe Friday now.
Yea I think Chimney Rock is a bit overrated, especially with what you have to pay for it. It's accessible so that makes it worthwhile for some people
Self reminder to not fuck with the Rockys Hot wings. Hot is good, too old for Rockys Hot now. Boone was cool. App St stadium is neat. Kid said she's going to be a cheerleader there.
Hope you’re ready for her to love weed yea I always take a step down at Rocky’s. I haven’t been in a while, this is a good reminder to go, thanks
I'm OK with that. 1% chance she still wants to go there in 12 years but would be cool of her love of our yearly trip up here led to her going to school up here. It really is an awesome area. And yea Biscuit Head and Rockys are the two must rat places for us. I'm sure there's better options but it's just tradition at this point. Heading out to Beech now, hoping for snow.
Hey NC bros, what is Ingles Markets like? Looking at bringing in some business there but am pretty unfamiliar with it. TIA
i like Ingles but i am generally disappointed with any produce not in season. i shop there for meat after holidays when i can get things like oxtails and bone-in things on sale.
went to the etowah ingles a few years ago in my #gayves pride hat and the high school kid working the register loved it. can only imagine the hill folk that poor dude sees there
I’m trying to think of a comparable grocery store to Ingles. It’s not Harris teeter or Publix. Better than Food Lion (at least the Ingles I’ve been in). Maybe like Bi Lo?
I was going for an Asheville joke. We actually had Ingles growing up in Saluda SC but like Owsley said, I’ve only seen them in the hills of TN/NC these days
We had them in Athens growing up. They were nice when they were new but by the time I left you didn’t want to be caught shopping in one. the ones I see around the mountains appear really nice. It’s no Food City though
when i was in charlotte, i would go into the southpark taj mahal one hungover most sunday mornings and every time the asian hot bar smelled incredible and once every other month i would try it and it always sucked ass but i kept thinking “maybe it will be good now?”
Between field work and traveling, I hit up Ingles a decent bit in north GA, upstate, and WNC. Don’t really have any complaints other than it being super white/Trumpy and full of olds, but that’s also just part of the geographic area. The salad bar really is outstanding though.
one benefit to Ingles being in NC mountain towns is they are a reliable shitter when i am passing through. one near Waynesville always had good TP.
agreed just think it’s much nicer than food lion and definitely isn’t a publix kind of store so not sure what the best comp is
Yeah, I don’t know either. Ingles can be very different. The one in West Asheville is terrifying and others are perfectly fine.
the one in fletcher was my go to. used to live right beside the abc store on sweeten creek i remember i got an Uber from sierra once and told him i needed to stop at a grocery store and he inexplicably drove me to the mills river one. laugh every time i drive by there and how absurdly out of the way it was
Thanks dudes, appreciated. It sounds like Ingles is a very generic grocery store but with some “premium” (aka wealthy) locations in their store mix.
100th anniversary of mccormick field 100 years ago today ty cobb started CF at this park. wild to think about
they sold tickets for the price of the first game. 75 cents. made me feel better about leaving after 5 when my three kids started losing their minds and it was cold
No big preference. Bar food or really whatever should be fine. Meeting a couple folks who arriving at different times, so being able to hang out a bit would be nice. If nothing immediately comes to mind, no worries.
