I think I have given up on the idea of camping on the Ryman porch Saturday night/Sunday morning for a chance at a ticket. Just going to have to miss this one. Also
Man. One of my favorite songs. Beautiful. I remember watching “ o’ brother where art thou’ with my dad who was born in ‘39 and he remembered and knew so many of the songs off that movie by heart.
Daddy Rabbit would have reached out while in Nashville but needed a break from all things TMB. Maybe next time.
Yes. Station Inn on Thur. Then Sam Gris at Dee’s last night. Good stuff. Done most of the Nash tourist stuff already so we kind of chilled otherwise. I didn’t pop the question because she isn’t in the right mind space and it wouldn’t have been fair.
Good call on the question. The pre-party at New Heights Brewing on Saturday was a good time. Even though I was glued to my phone watching the Vols basketball game. Found out after it was over that Sicard Hollow played at Dee's on Sunday. I drove to the Ryman at 7AM in Sunday morning to see about getting in the box office line. Three layers of clothes, snacks, blankets. It was already 20 people deep. Poster line was probably longer if you included the fucking chairs. I asked the first people in line what time they got there. 830 PM the night before. Watched the Saturday show on their phones. Fuck that 28°.
Looking good. MGU, Leftover, Wood Bros, Railroad, Dwellers, Larry Keel. Jerry/Dawg tribute. No Donato or East Nash, but the Italian guitarist Matteo Mancuso. Not bluegrass/roots music but he is a real prodigy. Late night sets on sale
New albums out from Infamous String Dusters, Traveling McCourys, and Jason Carter/Michael Cleveland. Throwing in Charlie Crockett too but I’m sure he’s in another thread.
Barves2125 was on this guy a while back. He put an album out of all his under the power line social commentary tracks. New album
Nutshell was a major one to cross off the list for me. Alex also completely dominates that Fire Line.
I haven't heard them all, but that Nutshell is on the short list for best. Don't know when I will get to see another show. Hopefully Huntsville aligns with my schedule. Lumpy and Cuckoo are two off the top of my head I want to catch one day. The Bridgestone shows knocked out a lot of Highway Prayers. Edit add on: How did I forget So Many Miles? That's my #1
Listen to the Living Like An Animal > Cuckoo from Asheville 15Feb25. Loved that whole show. Another West Dakota Rose with Chris Henry and the 2nd set after that is a heater. Malfunction Junction > Black Clouds > Willin > Hide N Seek.
Daniel Donato playing with Bluegrass Generals. Looks like mando player from YMSB, Stringdusters dobro and banjo, and bass from Sierra Ferrel. Daniel would be a top notch flat picker if he choose a bluegrass band.
Great lunchtime find today Original bluegrass pressings seem hard to find. On the search for a copy of Shady Grove but those are really expensive
Only 2 tickets per order and you have to enter with the purchaser of the ticket, so I assume it will be hard to find one for me.
Some good finds on whatnot. Several Doc Watsons and Chet Atkins. John Hartford. Deliverance. During banjos. Just spun that Vassar Clements. So good. Never heard of that Peter Rowan and David Grisman outfit Earth Opera. Some Josh White blues albums and a few Willie’s to boot.
I'm always late to the music scene, but really dove into Tyler Childers the past few weeks. So, so good. Awesome voice. Always fun finding a new artist with a huge discography to explore.
Fall tour dates dropped. 3 nights at Orion. Probably going to hold off on buying tickets until week of, but things are lining up to make at least one show.
Seeing Mountain Grass Unit tonight at free festival down by the river in Richmond. Pumped…have been wanting to catch them since I think I first saw someone post them on here last year maybe?
New East Nashville Grass single and album coming. They really jump around NC on their tours and I am mad about it
DelFest observations Great all around festival Del is like everyone’s Pa Pa. Going to see him any chance I get. Might be the happiest person on earth. Sierra Ferrel is the crackhead bluegrass Taylor Swift and it’s mesmerizing. Christian Ward did a great job replacing Jason Carter on fiddle. Big shoes to fill. He’s written several songs with Jarrod for Billy (Red Daisy). Wondering if he will end up in his own band. Wyatt Ellis is smoking the mandolin. Will be interesting to see what his voice is like when his nuts drop. His band of kids were smokin it. JigJam is a fun Irish band and great festival sets. The Wood Brothers kill it every time. I always forget how many of their songs I know. MGU was fun, but I didn’t enjoy a few of their covers. They just all graduated and touring full time now so hoping they will get more music out. California Honeydrops were fun change of pace. I would see them local for sure.
