Now the selection of Clottey makes more sense. I was worried because he's a big welter that fights the bigger man fight. This isn't a good look for Manny (draining a fighter and being catchweight king). Now I'm not that worried about the fight.

Clottey isn't a grade A fighter but there aren't a ton of options for Manny since you figure any GBP fighter is off limits.

Once again we're seeing why Paul is the most feared man in boxing. How is Pavlik gonna call out Paul and then go fight Sergio? It's not that Sergio is an unworthy opponent, it's that he was supposed to fight Paul, his camp fucks up, he calls Paul out, and then fights the guy that Paul beat (I had it a 114-114 draw but that's another discussion). That'w some weak shit. Where does Paul go now?

Middleweight division sucks right now, to be fair this is actually a step up from Pavliks defenses against Gary Lockett and Miguel Espino. Not sure why they couldnt come to the same terms as the last time unless Bob Arum and Al Haymon fucked it up.

Paul will probably get a stay busy fight in the middleweight division, he likes to fight 3-4 times a year and was only able to twice last year. Pavliks got WBC and WBO titles, Sturm has WBA, and Sebastian Sylvester has the IBF. Paul probably couldnt get Sturm or Sylvester to come to America and theres no way to win a decision in Germany. Welterweight division is also locked up right now so looks like he'll have to settle an anonymous middleweight or a beltholder at 154.

I know it's a step up but why fight the guy that lost the fight? I wouldn't be shocked to see if there is still some bad blood over Manny/PBF.

Near impossible to win a decision overseas for an American. Can't fight over there. AD vs Froch for example.
Paul should be able to get the winner of the Sergio/Pavlik fight at least. Just gotta stay busy I guess.

Boxing After Dark tonight, just glad to be able to watch any boxing right now. Yuriorkis Gamboa-Rogers Mtagwa is first followed by Juan Manuel Lopez-Steven Luevano from the mecca of boxing MSG. Should be 2 good fights and hopefully will put Gamboa and Juanma on a crash course for one another.

Yeah this is pretty much the age old way to create more hype for a fight, put both guys on the same card against fighters who will make them look good. Arum will hype the shit out of Cuba vs Puerto Rico when they eventually do meet, those ethnicities love boxing.

Gamboa would be in serious trouble against a good counterpuncher, hes got a ton of talent but is extremely vulnerable. Juanma can punch and Gamboa doesnt have a great chin.

Yeah they are both proud countries with a rich boxing tradition. My roommates dad was a boxer in Cuba, whenever I see him he has to talk to me about boxing.

I definitely think Juanma will win. I do question Gamboa's chin (I don't think it's as bad as some of the haters make it out to be). You're going to get opportunities against him and I think Juanma will be able to take advantage.

Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- Kermit is a Bitch and Is HBO Serious (JMM/Diaz PPV)

Got really busy and neglected the thread plus not that many people seemed to care but from the Paul/Kermit thread I feel like there should be at least a handful of guys to kick around the latest boxing news.

A fantastic schedule for May, which I put up some of the bigger fights and I'll update the FNF cards a little closer to Fridays. For the fights on SHO I'll throw up streams since that's the only way I can watch them.

So apparently JMM/Diaz is gonna be on HBO PPV. Great fight the first time but HBO can go suck a dick, no way I'm buying that shit. Money grab.

And Kermit is a little bitch but should have expected it from him. It's amazing how fighters like him continuously get paydays and fighters that actually give a shit about the fans and take on challenges get screwed.

Also, is Paul Williams overrated? Many people seem to believe so and make a very legit argument.

We kinda touched on it in the Paul thread but if we wanna discuss the weekend coming up it's Khan/Paulie and Campbell/Ortiz. I think all of us had Victor by UD and we split on Khan/Paulie, I personally don't think Paulie will test Khan's chin in this fight. If he did manage hurt Khan, Paulie would be too busy clowning around to finish him. If anyone wants to post a bit of analysis go for it, I'll post mine alter in the week.

What is your wish list for fights you want to see?

    My Floyd wish list..

    1. Floyd vs. Sergio Martinez - see Floyd test himself against a bigger guy. Fight would be great IMO.
    2. Floyd vs. Manny Pacquiao - enough said.
    3. Floyd vs. Paul Williams - Williams beat Martinez in a close fight so would be a great match-up as well. #1 vs. #3 as of right now in most people's eyes
    4. Floyd vs. Antonio Margarito - one guy I think Floyd didn't want a part of before but now he could shut everyone up and he would put an absolute beat down on that cheating faggit.
    5. Floyd vs. Miguel Cotto - was the biggest fight to be made not to long ago as Cotto was supposed to be the top challanger to Floyd. Floyd would kill him now but still want to see it.

    Other fights:

All of the top guys in 140 fight but I would really like to see Timothy Bradley vs. Devon Alexaner. Bradley wants to fight the Mayweathers and Pacquiaos and he is very good but he won't get a shot at them IMO so why not fight the best up and comer and let Alexander have a shot to really test himself and vault himself into the publics eyes and superstardom.

We will never see it but Klitschko vs. Klitschko would be awesome. Both are underappreciated as all-time heavyweights but its legit because they have no one to test themselves against.

Bute vs. the Super 6 winner...Super 6 could be a play-in to fight Bute and then we will definitely know who is the top dog at 168.

Tomasz Adamek vs. Chad Dawson II
-No one wants to fight Dawson or the people that will aren't good enough. I have heard he may move up and him vs. Adamek, although the not very likely at this point, would be awesome. Adamek has already moved up to Heavyeight and there has been rumblings about Dawson eventually making the move so the winner of thsi fight would really show who the biggest threat is that is moving up to fight the top guys at heavyweight.

I also want James Kirkland to get out of prison and fight someone worth while in 154 pound division. Martinez, Sturm, Williams, and even Pavlik would definitely be able to outbox him but his power would give him a puncher's chance and make any match-up exciting.

    Official - 1.4

Floyd now holds the top two PPV sales records for a non-heavyweight matchup including the highest selling boxing match of all-time vs. Oscar. His last four fights DLH, Hatton, JMM, and Mosley are all in the top 10 all-time of non-heavyweight ppvs. I think it's safe to say that the argument about who the cash cow is is over and that 50-50 split for Mayweather-Pacquiao could be down the drain.

Common opponents PPV sales aren't really close. This outselling Pac-Cotto, when Cotto is a bigger PPV attraction then Mosley, and doubling Pac-Clottey, although Clottey isn't an attraction at all, pretty much could kill Congressman Pacquiao's chances of a 50-50.

Also, according to David Mayo's article on MLIVE.COM, in Floyd made more money in his last two fights then Pac made in his career. MONEY strikes again.

A tad disappointing after being the most marketed fight of all time, blame GBP for their crazy expectations. Still good numbers though, proving big time boxing is still bigger than anything MMA can do. Makes me happy as a boxing fan. And now we will see the split become the issue, not drug testing.

Personally I think it should just be 45/45 and let the better fighter pick up the extra 10. If this fight is going to be as easy as Sr/Roach think it's gonna be both sides think they'll end up with the majority.

    Thread title change.

I am obviously biased but I really don't see why it should even be an even split. Mayweather is the bigger draw. It would be easy to just call it 50-50 and good for the negociations and I like the winner getting majority but in this case, Mayweather prolly has a good case to get the larger split. The numbers don't lie.

Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- Kermit is a Bitch and Is HBO Serious (JMM/Diaz PPV)

My thinking is that Manny didn't become a real superstar til after the Hatton fight (I think we agree on that). He's had 2 fights since then: Cotto and Clottey. Cotto did 1.25 and Clottey did 700K. It's basically how do you compare Cotto/Shane. Who's the bigger draw? Is the difference significant? How do you factor in the fact that GBP spent more promoting this fight than any other fight in history.

Pac/PBF are 2 ATGs and I love what they do in the ring but it's sad that fan boys
I personally find the 700K Pacquiao did with Clottey to be pretty impressive. 3 months to build a fight, 2 non-americans, no 24/7 and a B- level fighter no casual fan has even heard of. That's pretty impressive.

I'm not gonna sit here and act like Floyd doesn't have an argument to have the majority, I just don't agree. Part of it is because I do like Pacquiao but more so because it'd be bad for the sport.

This fight is bigger than both of these guys, to let egos and greed stand between a fight that will give boxing mainstream publicity that it hasn't had for a while is frustrating to me. There is too much on the line for these guys to fuck this up. This fight is for something greater than money, it's for the title of the best fighter of this generation and legacy as an ATG. I think that the winner taking the majority is honestly the best way to do it, the loser has no right to complain. You want the majority? Win, that simple.

This fight will clear out one set of fanboys.

700k is a very good # but also this is when Pac fans are saying Pacquiao was the megastar and a top dog and the fight being at Cowboy Stadium generated some interest for it. With that said, Floyd doubled that number. But it's all good, this fight just needs to get made.

I know a lot of people are excited for Paulie vs. Khan but I can't wait for Ortiz vs. Campbell as well. Who are you guys taking in that one?

Some guy on the old board was good friends with Ortiz and a lot of people thought he was the next big thing and he was Golden Boy's golden child until he knockeeeeed the fucccc out. Now he is continuing on the track to keep piling up some wins since his loss.

I hate Victor because his heart pumps Kool Aid but I have him winning by late stoppage (changed from a UD). He's the much bigger and stronger fighter. I also didn't like how Campbell was taking Bradley's punches in the last fight. If I'm wrong and Bradley takes those punches well, Bradley could easily win. We all know Victor is able to be hit cleanly and frequently. But Bradley is terribly inconsistent and is coming off a 9 month layoff at 38 years old.

Khan looked good. Paulie fought his own fight and still lost. Doesn't have the bounce in his step he used to, but he is certainly tough and deserves credit.

This fight never was gonna provide the opportunity for Khan to silence critics about his chin. Fighting Maidana would do that. Khan wants to unify the belts? Don't see it happening, I'm an Alexander guy. Khan/Alexander/Bradley/Maidana mini-tournament would be great for the division. O Let's Do It.

Impressive performance by Khan, while Paulie isnt in his prime Khan fought a good fight.

Khan can talk tough in the postfight interview but signing to fight Maidana is totally different. A 4 man tourney would be great and create excitement in the division. I like Bradley, sucks that Maidana got hurt. I'd favor Maidana in the tournament. Alexander doesnt have a great KO % but stopping a guy like Urango means a lot, him vs Maidana would be a terrific fight to watch.

Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- Khan/Paulie 5/15- Can Khan be KO'd by a Pillow?

Max made a point that I agree with very much about hand placement for Khan vs Paulie. Khan could pick off Paulie because his hands were high. Paulie kept his low and Khan landed the jab at will. We all knew why Paulie was picked for Khan, fighting Maidana would shut everyone up about his chin. Hopefully we don't have a Haye/Wlad type of thing (Fuck Haye).

You'd favor Maidana? I guess since he can turn a fight around at any point with that power he has as good a shot as any.

When Devon stopped Urango it was one of those moments that made me say wow. I think he's the best fighter in the division, slick boxer with so much natural talent and quickness. He's not Maidana or Ortiz in terms of punch power but he can clearly get the job done.

Another great weekend next week. Marquez/Vazquez 3 and Perez/Mares.

I'll take Alexander in that tourney. He is the best there now and the future of boxing.

Khan looked great last night but the knock on his chin isn't going to get silenced by fighting Paulie. If he fights Maidana on the other hand then we will find out all about that suspect chin.

Since Maidana isn't available it's looking like it'll be Michael Katsidis on 7/31. To take this fight only a few months after fighting Paulie would be quite the statement. This would definitely provide him with the opportunity to shut up his critics about his chin. An all action fighter, with good power, and delivered a beatdown on Kevin Mitchell.

Like there needs to be more talent at 140 now that Katsidis is coming up. With so much talent all the best will be fighting someone on their level making for a bunch of great fights. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for starting this thread and updating it. I try to keep up with boxing as much as I can but this will definitely help too.

No problem. As long as people are posting in here I'll update it.

Since the big fights this Saturday are on SHO I'll be looking for links, so I'll post what I find.

As of now I'm going to Foreman vs. Cotto in Yankee Stadium on June 5. I'm pretty fuckin' stoked. First fight in Yankee Stadium since '76, Ali vs. Norton.
