Little bit, yeah. It's just different pulling up a streaming platform like DAZN or ESPN+ than turning on HBO. End of the day though, most folks will watch good fights if they get made, no matter the platform.
I’m with you. Just feel like this whole transition came during a down time for the sport. Not sure what fights will be worth the trouble. There’s some solid individual talent, but until they fight better competition, even boxing fans might be a tough sell, even if it’s just $5/month
Good stoppage. Zamora was game as hell, but was going to get hurt shortly. Barrios looked really good.
Starting now on FOX: FOX, 8:00 pm ET, Leo Santa Cruz vs Rafael Rivera, Omar Figueroa Jr vs John Molina Jr. Santa Cruz was supposed to face Miguel Flores, which wasn’t exciting, but Flores is out, so Rivera, also not exciting, is in. Rivera has dropped two of three, losing to Joseph Diaz Jr and Joet Gonzalez, but now he’s got a world title fight. Boxing, baby! Figueroa-Molina should be a firefight. Figueroa has only fought once since 2015 and hasn’t fought since the summer of 2017, but he always brings action, and Molina, who hasn’t fought since a Dec. 2017 shootout win over Ivan Redkach, is always up to get in a scrap. Santa Cruz (35-1-1, 19 KO) is an enormous favorite in this fight, as he’s a proven top featherweight and Rivera (26-2-2, 17 KO) is seen as an also-ran in the division. Rivera is coming in on short notice, replacing original opponent Miguel Flores about a month ago. Rivera has lost two of his last three, dropping decisions to Joseph Diaz Jr and Joet Gonzalez. The welterweight co-feature may be the real can’t-miss fight of the night, as it pits all-action battlers Omar Figueroa Jr (27-0-1, 19 KO) and John Molina Jr (30-7, 24 KO) in a matchup that has war potential. Neither Figueroa nor Molina have fought since 2017. The opener is a junior middleweight fight between prospect Sebastian Fundora (11-0, 7 KO) and Donnie Marshall (10-0, 6 KO). Marshall is a 30-year-old fighter from North Carolina and here to be the opponent, but Fundora is a really intriguing young fighter. The 21-year-old southpaw stands 6’6” at 154 pounds, meaning he could be a nightmare matchup for just about anyone if he pans out as a fighter.
Yeah, I think the decision is fine, but there's no real way to legitimately score the fight that wide.
Tyson Fury signs a co-promotional deal with Top Rank, which means he'll be fighting on ESPN platforms. Also puts Fury-Wilder II in a bit of jeopardy.
