Exactly. They got a big name, blood, and a controversy. With a rematch on top.

For me, its not that horn got the decision. It's the margin by one judge.

He was more aggressive than Pacquiao for the majority of the fight and got rewarded for it.

Seems to me that boxing scoring could use some updates. Winning a round by a small margin vs just beating the shit out of a guy for a round shouldn't really count as the same thing, yet they almost always do. Leads to more confusing results like this.

Idk. Given how Manny looked, I'm not in a big rush to see him fight anyone much better either.

I know people are mad at one of those cards. But nothing suggests that the rematch would be poopy.

Stephan A having it 118-112 for Manny is a pretty bad card as well.

This fight was fun. You had a super underdog that had no fear just keep swinging for fences. You had both guys busted open and bleeding. You had both guys almost knocked out at different points of the fight.

You can sign me up for a rematch

I would agree. Horn was wild and sloppy. He had no fear and a big heart. But skill level wise he wasn't good. Manny struggled to find his distance and timing. Even when Horn was gassed and hurt he couldn't finish the fight and proceeded to take rounds off after instead of going for the killer finish.

I thought Bradley had a great point on Stephen A here...

Stephen A: Horn's awful. Couldn't compete with Garcia, etc
Bradley: Could Pac still compete with them?
    Stephen A: Yes.
    Bradley: -just smiles-

It's not a fully sound argument but if we just watched a Pac that could still hold his own against the big dogs then Horn could probably muster up a fight as well. If I'm Thurman or Spence, I'm setting up a Horn fight. Easy money.

I never said that. Don't read into my comment what wasn't there. Just saying that was a fun fight to watch seeing such a underdog attack non stop one of the best to ever do it.

I'm damn sure not going to Australia though, and that limits Horn's draw. If you're going to Australia to fight Horn, you be better be damn sure you can, will and do KO him.

I also hope the Judges didn't treat it like how Bradley suggested they would. "The Judges saw Manny bleeding and Horn being the aggressor."

well yeah, look at what manny had to overcome. That alone should have got him some rounds.

I don't think the cuts Manny got would earn Horn any rounds. That's pretty silly as they were clearly ruled accidental head butts.

But I do think Horn being so aggressive, throwing first and most gave him some of the closer rounds

I'm just using his wide margin card in favor for Manny as an example of another poorly scored fight. I don't give a shit about Stephan A outside of the fact his narrative post fight took away from the fact that fight was highly entertaining and everything from r1 to r12 a boxing fan could want. I think Leavy was trying to bring that back into the discussion a few times and Stephan just wasn't having it

We've seen this plenty of times. Judges like aggression. They favor the fighter who's coming forward and throwing punches, whether most land cleanly or not tends to not matter. And if you were a judge that favored that last night, you scored it 115-113 for Horn. The 117-111 is something else.

Agree. His aggression is what landed him a draw on my card. The kid never backed down and continued to fire even if it opened him up for counters. Either the kid has a great chin or mannys power has dropped off.

That goes to the next conversation about Manny and it's can he hang with the elite of the division. I'm tending to think after tonight it's no.

If you take the top three guys at 140 (Crawford, Postol and Indongo) and the top 10 at 147 (Thurman, Spence, Garcia, Porter, Brook, Vargas, Peterson, Diaz, Matthysse), how many is he favored against?

Indongo for sure, Vargas for sure, and probably Peterson and Diaz. That's it.

Pacquiao did not exactly say what part of his earnings went to charity or what form of charity exactly he engaged in. But his generosity has never been much of a secret. Top Rank chief Bob Arum calls Pacquiao a one-man social welfare system, narrating how he once bought outboard motors for fisherfolk in a town in General Santos City in the Philippine island of Mindanao because they spent more hours getting to and from fishing areas than they did fishing.

Stories of people queueing for a whole block to this house to receive any form of doleout, cash or kind, have been retold several times.

“If Manny Pacquiao loses all his money someday,” Freddie Roach said in a trainers’ roundtable Thursday morning, “It will be because he gave them all away.”

Not saying that PAC could but styles make fights. It's the transitive property. Pac''s experience and natural talent could carry him more than Horn whose aggression could leave him open against better stronger boxers

If I could change one thing, I would do away with all the different belts and rankings. The lack of organization and shitty judges is what kills the sport. I also think there should be less weight classes I've never given it major thought, but so many things could improve. #1 should always be obligated to fight #2 within a time frame, unless they want to retire.

I've always been curious about scoring in a lot of sports, including boxing. In what circumstance would you EVER see a 10-6 round? Never. Literally not ever. So what's the point of a 10-point scoring system? if it's a 4-point system, then just use that, and allow for more fluidity. Either that, or make all of the rounds 1 or 2 point rounds. The winner of the round gets 2 points, and the loser gets 1, no matter how lopsided it is.

It's the same with a lot of sports, like I've seen gymnastics, where if your fat, drunk uncle rolled around on the mat they'd score a 6. so why have 10 points??

Were these systems ever truly used as 10 point systems? Was there a time in boxing where you'd have 10-4 rounds, and it just became this retarded version of that over the years?

Yeah, I'll post something later on today. It's definitely a good card though, main event could turn Into a real battle and Joe Smith Jr (who destroyed Hopkins) vs Barrera could be the best fight on the whole card.

Alright, here's what we've got tonight. First, a PBC on FOX card that starts at 8 PM, should end just in time for the HBO Card. Robert Guerrero tries to keep relevant at 147.

FOX, 8:00 pm ET, Omar Figueroa vs Robert Guerrero.

This has a two-hour broadcast window, so it should end just as HBO’s show is ready to get rolling, if not before (should we get lucky with some early finishes, and given the undercard, we should). The main event is kinda do-or-die for both guys at 147, but especially for Guerrero. The show also features Marcus Browne vs Seanie Monaghan and Artur Szpilka vs Adam Kownacki.

Following that FOX card, we've got a really nice HBO tripleheader.

HBO, 9:50 pm ET, Miguel Berchelt vs Takashi Miura, Jezreel Corrales vs Robinson Castellanos, Joe Smith Jr vs Sullivan Barrera.

Boxing After Dark is back with a big tripleheader from The Forum in Inglewood, California, featuring two world title fights at 130 pounds, and a meaningful showdown at 175.

In the main event, Miguel Berchelt (31-1, 28 KO) defends the WBC super featherweight title against former titleholder Takashi Miura (31-3-2, 24 KO). The course for this fight was set on January 28, when Miura won an eliminator against Mickey Roman, and on the same card, Berchelt won the title from Francisco Vargas. Miura is no stranger to a war, so this could be exciting.

Jezreel Corrales (21-1, 8 KO) will defend the WBA super featherweight title against tough veteran Robinson Castellanos (24-12, 14 KO), as well. It’s Corrales’ first fight under the Golden Boy banner, and his first on U.S. soil. Castellanos is coming off of a win over Yuriorkis Gamboa.

In the opener, light heavyweight contenders Joe Smith Jr (23-1, 19 KO) and Sullivan Barrera (19-1, 14 KO) are set for action. Smith beat Bernard Hopkins and Andrzej Fonfara last year, while Barrera suffered a loss to Andre Ward, and came back to knock off prized prospect Vyacheslav Shabranskyy in his next outing.
