Good stuff should be exciting. The boricuas should be rocking Yankee Stadium.

Really like Danny Jacobs, glad to see HBO show a brief highlight of his fight. Would like to see him possibly fight on the undercard of JMM-Diaz II.

HBO had Nazim Richardson auditioning for an analyst role yesterday before the televised bouts. Would love to have his insight on all BADs, they're also looking at Roach but the Parkinsons certainly doesnt help.

I'm surprised they didn't have that fight the next Saturday, the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade.

HBO better stack that undercard if they want people to but that PPV

Would love to see Naazim commentate. Definitely knows his shit and will say exactly what he thinks. Another name that has been thrown around is Paulie (should retire), I wouldn't mind him either. But obviously he's not Naazim.

I would love to see Naazim on HBO. The guy knows his stuff and has interesting ways of telling it. I think he would be great as an analyst and a great fit.

I'll eat some bagels for Breakfast in support of Foreman.

As long as a see a good fight though, I don't care who wins. Just no as whooping one way or the other, or someone falling out of the ring and the fight getting stopped.

Manny will fight one last time in November, probably the 13th. Taken from ESB (no source):

    Floyd's Demands:
    60-40 split
    no Dallas venue only Vegas
    He enters the ring last
    glove size is negotiable
    Drug testing is non negotiable
No interest in fighting for the WBO title

60/40 ain't gonna happen I think it's just a starting point for negotiations
    Vegas isn't a issue
As long as he isn't an douche bag the way he was vs SSM don't care
They better fight with 8oz gloves
    Already said this
Doesn't want to pay the sanctioning fees. Don't care.

    Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- 5/22 Vazquez/Marquez 4- Gonna Be A War

Based on where they are at RIGHT NOW:

It's just tough because everyone has varying definitions of what A/B/C level fighters are.

I have a lot of guys on borders

    Floyd Mayweather Jr- A+
    Manny Pacquiao- A+
    Paul Williams- B+
    Sergio Martinez- B+
    Vitali Klitschko- B
    Wladimir Klitschko- B+
    David Haye- B
    Lucian Bute- B+
    Andre Ward- B+
    Andre Dirrell- B
    Arthur Abraham- B
    Mikkel Kessler- B
    Karl Froch- B
    Miguel Cotto- B
    Yuri Foreman- B
    Shane Mosley- B/B-
    Timothy Bradley- B+/B
    Devon Alexander- B+/B
Victor Ortiz- C+ (only because of his heart)
Amir Khan- B/B- (because of his chin)
    Marcos Maidana- B/B-
    Andre Berto- B-
    Joshua Clottey- C+
    Juan Manuel Marquez- A-
    Chad Dawson- A-
James Kirkland- Can't judge til after he gets out
    Daniel Jacobs- B
    Tomasz Adamek (at HW)- B
    Michael Katsidis (at LW)- B

    My P4P Top 10:
    1. Pacquiao
    2. Floyd
    3. Chad Dawson
    4. JMM
    5. Paul Williams
    6. Sergio Martinez
    7. Wladimir Klitschko
    8. Fernando Montiel
    9. Nonito Donaire
    10. Andre Ward

I'm gonna come back and look at this, did it super fast. May be a bit crazy. A lot of guys have the potential to be A level guys but aren't there yet.

    Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- 5/22 Vazquez/Marquez 4- Gonna Be A War

Yeah it's hard you can define it in different ways..skill level, overall career, etc. It's hard for guys like Sugar Shane and B-Hop because they have had awesome careers but have are winding it down so how do you grade them out. Their are definitely a lot of guys with potential to get to A level, future of boxing looks bright.

    Mayweather is a definite A+ guy. Pac-Man *A+.

Guys like JMM, B-Hop and Shane have had great careers and are HOF's so you kinda have to give them A's because they, at one point, were all A's.

Dawson, if not already, has a great shot to be an A guy. All the 140lb guys (Bradley, Khan, Ortiz, Devon) have the talent to eventually get there but we will see how it pans out. I think Andre Ward is a future star and I agree with the B+ ranking.

Guys like Williams, Martinez, all the EURO guys in the Super 6 are all very solid B to B+ guys but IMO it might be their ceiling, with no disrespect to The Punisher as I know a lot of guys that post here like him a lot. And Martinez is a guy that I think is an awesome fighter to and everything but a B+ is right for him to, which is no slight because really there shouldn't be a massive amount of the A level guys because those are the elite of the elite and that's why, although loaded with potential, most of the guys with potential from the above paragraph won't make it to that elite A level status. Everything has to come together and stay together to get to elite status and it's a tough sport for that to happen in.

    Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- 5/22 Vazquez/Marquez 4- Gonna Be A War

I really think Alexander will get there and be the best of the bunch. I think Bradley will be slightly behind him. Khan and Ortiz have to prove their chin/heart to become A level guys. I sound like a broken record but A level guys don't have flaws that serious.

I am a huge Paul guy but he's limited by his style. He fights that pressure style as a volume puncher in order to give the fans what they want. In the process he often gives up his height and is easily countered. He tried against Cintron to control istance with the jab, didn't land his jab and got frustrated. Went back to his normal style, Kermit freaked and dove out of the ring. Paul's physical gifts give him the potential to be great. He needs someone to improve his fundamentals and ring IQ in order to get to that next level. Some one like Naazim and JGator suggest Steward. Both would be excellent choices and do wonders for Paul.

Guys who I really think will make it to A level status at some point in their career:
    Paul Williams
    Devon Alexander
    Andre Ward
    Nonito Donaire
    Yuriorkis Gamboa
    Andre Dirrell

I like Gamboa a lot. I am a fan of Dirrell to and actually want him to win the Super 6 but I think Wards upside is much higher and don't know if Dirrell has what it takes to get to the elite, A-level. I am a big fan of him though.

    Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- 5/22 Vazquez/Marquez 4- Gonna Be A War

I'm a huge AD fan as well. Ward is the better fighter now but I actually think AD has more upside (mainly due to handspeed and reflexes, that just can't be taught).

Ward has grown more recently and is the better fighter right now but it really seems like AD is taking it up a level. He got robbed vs Froch and dominated AA. It should be settled in the ring at some point which is always nice.

    Who you got this weekend?
I got Marquez and Perez. If I have some time at work I'll say a little bit about why. Would like some others thoughts as well.

Really thought he would man up and face the Klitschkos but its pathetic. I had no problem with him facing Valuev since it was a belt and Ruiz was a mandatory. However this is a fucking joke its obvious hes just waiting for them to get old. Guess hes got the Calzaghe road map, duck everyone good, face old guys with big names, call yourself a good fighter.

I gave him a break as well. But when you got Wlad doing this:

Wladimir Klitschko calling out David Haye

And you still don't want it, you made your intentions pretty obvious.

It's hilarious when people don't know shit, see Calzaghe's record and some of the names and act like he's better than what he was.

Then why didnt he move up earlier? If hes so sure then fight Maidana, we'll see where his chin is at after that. Khan has everything else and he'll be a force at 140 if he can take a punch.

Agreed, that's a lot of unnecessary risk you're putting on yourself if it was really that tough making 135. Especially for as many fights as he had at 135.

If he fought Katsidis at 140 I think that'd be a good test for his chin at well. Think he can move up just fine.

Adamek/Grant to fight on August 21 in Jersey. Grant is a huge dude, gonna be interesting for Adamek. Adamek will win though, Grant is past his prime. He needs rounds with some big HWs before he wants to get at the Brothers.

Obviously Larry is gonna know a hell of a lot more than most because of his role at HBO. If the bigger issues (blood testing and split) haven't been resolved I don't think he'd say something like this. The fact that negotiations haven't gone on through the media has helped a lot.

Against Clottey his camp was off since he had to limit his days in the US for tax purposes. I'd expect him to have a normal camp this time around in LA. Manny can handle all the chaos around him, as can Floyd. Those things won't be an issue.

So I have tickets to the Foreman/Cotto fight this weekend at Yankee Stadium.

However, it seems like it's going to be a bit of a headache to coordinate the weekend's travels and it's going to cost a pretty good amount. It's like $90 for my ticket and will be another $54 for a bus ticket, since I don't have my car car anymore. Plus another like $30-50 for like recreational spending.

Will the fight at Yankee Stadium be worth it?

It's tough to answer that for you. It should be a competitive fight but it's not gonna turn into a slugfest (even though the fight is tagged 'Stadium Slugfest'. Foreman will try to control distance, out-box Cotto and be on his bike. Won't be the most exciting fight of the year but as I said it will be competitive.

If you've never been to a title fight, I would say go for that experience. There is a certain buzz around a title fight (been to Vegas/AC). The large Jewish/Puerto Rican populations should help a lot. The chance to see a title fight in Yankee Stadium is a pretty special experience I couldn't pass up.

Khan to fight Joel Casamoyer on July 31. This fight is a joke and I hate Khan but it is only 2 1/2 months after his last fight. Hoping after this they can set up big fights at 140 among Khan, Bradley, Maidana, Alexander, etc.

Cotto-Foreman wont be a very good fight. Will always like Cotto since he is a true fighter but he has taken a ton of punishment for a 29 year old. Maybe two more fights after this and hes done. Sucks that Manny Steward or someone else wasnt brought in a few years ago, Joe Santiago was a shitty trainer.

Am looking forward to Greene-Martirosyan, hate when HBO or Showtime only has one fight on their card.

Wouldnt go that far since other guys are tied up until August(Alexander). Basically we'll find out after Casamoyer how serious Khan is, but fighting a guys whos gonna be 39 and has had one fight after losing to JMM doesnt look too good. As much as Casa is past his prime, he does hit harder than Salita or Paulie(not saying a whole lot though).

I'll give Khan a pass on this one. It's a stay busy fight before Ramadan and nothing more. Fought Paulie not to long ago, can't be mad at him. Would have preferred him fighting Katsidis though. Once Maidana is healthy and Bradley/Alexander are available we'll see if Khan backs up his talk.

Santiago was nothing more than a yes man to Cotto. He was nowhere near qualified to be Cotto's head trainer. The advice he gave Cotto was laughable. I'm kinda excited to see what Manny does with Cotto. Still like Yuri in this though.

I didn't have a chance to read it but I saw briefly that RJJ would join the HBO team for the Cotto/Yuri fight since Manny will be with Cotto. Love RJJ, nice replacement.

Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- Pac/PBF looking good and Khan is the new Money

No idea if this would work out but Id like to see Steward train Paul. Besides the obvious Hearns comparisons, Manny would do a better job of teaching Paul to use his reach. Having trained Hearns, lennox, and Wladimir hes gotta be among the best at working with taller fighters. While Manny may get shit for Jermain Taylor but that was a bad mix of styles between trainer and fighter in addition to Jermain not being tough enough.

RJJ would still be working at HBO if hed shown any work ethic while commentating. Hes so much better than guys like lennox and Foreman. Hopefully hes still got it, he may need the money since he literally made nothing off his fight with Hopkins.

Sounds fun Pat have a good time.

Still waiting on all these supposed big boxing fans to weigh in on any fight not involving Pac or Floyd.....

Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- Pac/PBF looking good and Khan is the new Money

That would be good for Paul. Whoever trains Paul has to keep him from getting frustrated. He tried to uses his reach vs Kermit early and looked awful, couldn't land his jab at all (Manny would fix that for sure). Went back to his old style and then Kermit jumped out the ring. Naazim would be a fine choice as well.

I've pretty much given up on that. I started this since so many people post in the Floyd/Manny threads there would be enough people to carry a boxing thread. I think I could could the different posters in this thread on one hand.

And have a good time Pat.

Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- Cotto/Foreman Coverage at 10:05 Main Event~11

Really like Yuri in this fight by UD (+195 on BM).

The size difference between the two fighters is huge. Yuri will use his long reach to keep Cotto on the outside. Cotto will be the aggressor in this fight, walking down Yuri. When Cotto comes inside, Yuri has to make him pay for that real estate. Yuri is gonna rely on his fundamentals and very solid defense in this fight. Foreman does not have good power as evidenced by the low KO rate. I'll be curious to see how much Cotto respects Yuri's power.

For Cotto he is the much smaller guy and and a reach disadvantage. Yuri is gonna wanna keep Cotto fighting on the outside and make this a pure boxing match. As I said before Cotto is gonna have to be the aggressor and will have to walk through Yuri's punches. Then he's got to attack the body. Yuri is gonna be on his bike in this fight and is always in tremendous shape. Break down the body and Yuri will start to slow down, making it much easier. If Cotto doesn't feel Yuri's punches I'd expect Cotto to win.

If Yuri is able to control distance and make Cotto feel his punches Yuri wins by a wide margin in a boring fight.

If Cotto wins, he'll be the aggressor, walk right through Yuri's puinches, and make Yuri fight a fight in close quarters.

I'm rooting for Cotto but think Yuri wins. Wonder how much Steward can make a difference w/ Cotto at this point as he may be damaged goods at just 29 which would be sad
