As I said in the other thread, if it's because he probably won't have Roger then I understand.

Zab looked good last night. I've always liked Zab so it was good to see.

We've got HBO BAD tonight with

    Bradley/Abregu and Angulo/Acline

It'll be interesting to see how Bradley handles the move up to 147. I think it's an awful decision for him. Abregu is a solid opponent, Bradley may run into problems.

I am not an Angulo fan, he's limited as a fighter but still expect him to win. I'm waiting to be impressed by him.

I can agree with that, if Roger Mayweather ends up going to jail then I can certainly understand Floyd saying no.

You have to wonder how focused Bradley is with big fights down the road. He doesnt have a lot of power at 140 and at least on paper Abregu is a decent puncher. I think he wins a UD but hes a 140 pounder, not a welterweight.

Any somewhat slick boxer will box circles around Angulo.

We should learn a lot about Bradley after tonight. He's moving up, will be tested and if he wins he's going to be lined up for a big fight that he's going to have to take.

Good win by Bradley, wasn't overly impressed though. Solid nonetheless. Came off like a faggot in the post fight interview though, calling out Manny Pacquaio, Alexander, Khan, etc.

    Agreed.

Bradley at 147 is worse than I thought. He didn't look as good at 147 and what fights does he want to make there. Pacquiao might not his head off. And why is Bradley calling out Devon? Devon wanted to fight but Bradley said no because he felt that Devon hadn't earned the right. And Max's point post-fight is absolutely true, we are seeing 2 leagues form up and not get the fights fans deserve. If only boxing could get under 1 umbrella like UFC.

Angulo is still a fighter, not a boxer.

Probably lost in the shuffle but Tua fought on Saturday as well (Draw) and got knocked down for the first time. Can't believe that, has one of the best chins in the sport. Absolutely incredible.

Was listening to Boxing Truth Radio tonight, and Gary Shaw said that Berto/Bradley will not happen because they are good friends. Said that Amir Khan is 1st in line of people for Bradley to fight. This just adds to the mystery of who the fuck Berto is going to fight next.

He's fucked, there is nobody at 147.

Even though his camp said he can make 140 I have a hard time believing he'd be comfortable fighting there. He should go up to 154 and honestly get whoever he can take. After the earthquake he didn't look good against Quintana.

It's beating a dead horse (we've all agreed) any elite fighter is going to give Berto serious problems because his corner is amateur at best. He's got so much potential, it's frustrating to see his lack of growth.

Bradley needs to stick at 140, whoever emerges from the crowd at 140 will become a star.

Max gets a lot of shit but you can tell hes a fan who gives a shit about the sport. It is getting ridiculous and we are losing big time. Promoters should work for the fighter, the way it is now the fighter is working for the promoter.

Although he is a corrupt motherfucker Arum made a good point in a recent interview. He said that promoters are getting too happy with tv money and arent putting enough effort into helping fighters gain more attention. Paul Williams should not be fighting in California unless its against a Margarito. Build a fanbase in DC where he trains or in Atlanta. Guys like Bradley and Berto arent exactly packing arenas, at least a part of that is on their promoters.

Tua is done if he cant beat Barrett. I was ready to hop on the Tua bandwagon, hes one of the hardest punchers in boxing history.

It looks like Bradley wants Khan and has a good shot at getting that fight set up. Max was exactly right, and thats coming from me, who usually hates Max. Promoters are perfectly fine putting together lopsided fights that get them money instead of putting together interesting and entertaining fights that help fighters. There is no reason Bradley and Berto should not be selling out arena's. It really is sad to see.

Yep, Berto is about out of options. No way he can go to 140 without losing strength, it just wouldn't work for him. Yea, we've all agreed he isn't ready for an elite fighter yet. Really needs to get rid of his trainer and then go from there.

As much as I hate Arum hes been among the best at taking fighters and building them up. Guys like Margarito and now JuanMa are big draws. As much as Don King may have screwed guys over, he put on great cards and got people to watch them. Its sad that boxing would be a better place if Don King was able to run it in a way similar to Dana White does UFC.

While Diaz-Marquez II should not be on ppv at least Golden Boy has put together a great undercard including Danny Jacobs 160 pound title fight.

Re: Official 2010 Boxing Thread- Fuck HBO (JMM/Diaz on PPV, come on son)

    Thomas Hauser article on Floyd-Pac
Too often, boxing gives the impression that the inmates are running the asylum. That phenomenon has been on display recently in the conflicting, and sometimes absurd, public pronouncements regarding the proposed Nov. 13 fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

For several months, the public was told that negotiations were proceeding pursuant to a self-imposed gag order that the participants had put in place to avoid incendiary statements that might derail the fight.

On June 10, Golden Boy president Oscar De La Hoya (Mayweather’s co-promoter as of late) broke the silence and told Univision that a deal for the bout was “very close.”

On June 30, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum (Pacquiao’s promoter) told SI.com that, with HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg acting as an intermediary, he and Mayweather advisor Al Haymon had reached a tentative agreement for the fight. All that was necessary, Arum said, was for Mayweather to sign off on the deal points.

Mayweather was silent on the issue. Thus, Arum set a deadline of midnight on the night of Friday, July 16. If there was no response from Mayweather by then, rather than keep Pacquiao out of the ring indefinitely, Team Pacquiao would seek another opponent.

Midnight came and went. At 12:01AM, Arum announced on a teleconference call that Mayweather had failed to respond positively or negatively to the terms that had been hammered out by Greenburg, Haymon and himself. As a result, the promoter said, he would explore other options for Pacquiao.

Then things took a turn evocative of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. On July 19, Team Mayweather issued a statement from Mayweather advisor Leonard Ellerbe denying that negotiations for Mayweather-Pacquiao had ever taken place.

“Here are the facts,” Ellerbe’s statement read. “Al Haymon, [Golden Boy CEO] Richard Schaefer and myself speak to each other on a regular basis. The truth is, no negotiations have ever taken place nor was there ever a deal agreed upon by Team Mayweather or Floyd Mayweather to fight Manny Pacquiao on November 13. Either Ross Greenburg or Bob Arum is not telling the truth, but history tells us who is lying.”

Of course, there’s a third possibility: that Leonard Ellerbe is not telling the truth.

    So what really happened?

Greenburg was extremely eager to make Mayweather-Pacquiao a reality. Multiple sources say that, this spring, he told Arum, “‘I want to put this fight together. I can do it with Haymon.”

Later, at a June 3 tribute to Arum at the Friar’s Club in New York, Ross assured Bob, “I can get this fight.”

“I never talked to Haymon,” Arum told RingTV.com. “It was all done through Ross. Ross represented to me that he was talking to the Mayweather side through Haymon, and it was left to Haymon to deal with the rest of the Mayweather people. Based on what Ross told me, I asumed that we had a meeting of the minds on money and drug-testing. There was no done deal for a site, but the most likely site was Las Vegas. The MGM Grand wanted the fight. Steve Wynn was interested. Jerry Jones might have given us a blank check and told us to fill in the amount if we went to Dallas. But all the talk about finalizing the venue was premature.”

“Haymon never represented to Ross that Floyd had signed off on the deal,” Arum continued. “According to Ross, Haymon always said that he had to get final approval from Mayweather. But if Ross is to be believed – and I believe him here – Haymon said that he, meaning Haymon, was satisfied with the terms.”

A source at HBO with knowledge of the situation said that there was a time during negotiations when Haymon tried to use the promise of the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight to secure TV dates for several of his other fighters. Greenburg, according to the source, appropriately refused.

It’s unclear what role, if any, Golden Boy was to play in the promotion. “That was up to the Mayweather people,” Arum said. “Depending on the day, I got mixed signals through Ross. From time to time, Ross would tell me that Haymon was checking certain things with Schaefer. Other times, I got the impression that maybe Golden Boy was out.”

As the world knows, July 16 passed with no deal for Mayweather-Pacquiao. Then Ellerbe issued his statement denying the existence of negotiations.

Ellerbe’s claim is undermined by the reasonable assumption he read reports about the negotiations in the media yet never publicly suggested to anyone that the reports were wrong. At the very least, one would have expected him to pick up the phone, call Greenburg and ask, “What are these reports all about?”

One would also think that, if there were no negotiations, Greenburg would have called Arum to inquire about the reports.

Arum put it more bluntly, saying, “Is Ellerbe crazy? If there were no negotiations, why was everyone talking about a gag order?”

Al Haymon has refused to comment publicly on the controversy. So has Greenburg. Where Haymon is concerned, that’s par for the course. Regarding Greenburg, the view here is that Ross owes Arum the courtesy of a public statement that negotiations did, in fact, occur (the assumption here being that they did).

As for the future? Arum noted in his midnight statement, “People have asked me, ‘Does this mean the Mayweather fight is dead?’ Even though Mayweather has not responded by the deadline, the deal is dead when we reach a deal with an opponent for Manny’s fight in November. Then we are contractually bound to do that fight. In the interim, if Floyd suddenly emerged and said he wanted to do the fight, there would be nothing opposed to getting together and doing the fight. That is our position, and I hope it is as clear as I can make it.”

In that vein, one source says that Haymon met with Greenburg this past Tuesday, and told him, “Don’t worry. I have everything under control.”

Maybe he does. Maybe he doesn’t.

The fight will happen if Mayweather wants it. If he’s afraid of Pacquiao, it won’t.

With the nail put in the coffin for Floyd/Pac Arum turns his attention to making Margo/Pac @ 150

That fight is a facepalm for many reasons
    1. Pac/Floyd couldn't get done
    2. Margo doesn't deserve that payday
    3. Catchweight

Once again we see Arum keeping the money in house but not sure he really has a choice.

I've posted that Arum can go fuck himself, first of all.

Second of all, Floyd's not fighting because he wants no part of Manny. It's the same reason he "retired" when 147 was a hot division. Margo/Shane/Cotto were all great potential fights and then he retires. Let's all of those guys beat up on each other and comes back to fight JMM and takes on an old Shane.

I hope a Floyd/Cotto fight comes with a time machine so I can go back to when this would have been a great fight.

Bankz if there werent negotiations then why did Oscar say the fight was close to being made and there was a gag order. Also with all the talk of the fight on ESPN, etc why would Floyds people not come out and deny it all. Greenburg claimed there were talks, im guessing hes biased too right. If Floyd wants to fight then fight if wants to retire then retire. Floyd always claims hes his own man, yet in the RA Rugged interview says its not up to him who he fights.

If Cotto has an agreement to fight Floyd then great, if not then Berto is good fight. Cotto may have a problem with the $ being offered, HBO has ridiculously overpaid for Bertos fights and Cotto may be getting shorted. Seems like a possible explanation since hes never ducked anyone.

Re: Boxing Thread- Floyd ducks147 competition (again), Pac/Margo? JMM/Diaz SAT (PPV)

Floyd him self said HE WAS NOT FIGHTING THIS YEAR. Fuck what Golden boy or whoever said whatever.......

Maybe Floyd's camp was trying to make the fight for next year?? Just cause Bob said it was this year doesn't make it true....

If Floyd comes out and talks a bunch of shit on pacand the negotiations then he is wrong. If he say's nothing he is wrong. Floyd will always be wrong or a coward to you guys.....

Not going to get into a back and forth just wanted to know why the thread title read like it did.......

Also I think its funny that Pac gets mad love for fighting Cotto but when MM fights him in early '11 then we need a time machine.

You guys are so typical haters.........

Ok lets move on lots of over priced bullshit PPV to talk about......

It's just how floyd talks so much shit all the time now he chooses to be quiet when he never is. If he continues to be quiet leading up to his next fight i'll admit i was wrong. To me his silence is a one time thing not a shift in attitude.

Pac looked great but it isn't a great win, big difference. I guess you missed a ton of people saying Cotto was damaged goods and a B fighter (which i agree). Pac got love because he continues to step out and dominate guys much bigger than him.

I'm going ro break down and buy the ppv because of jmm even though i hate hbo for stealing my money on this.

Re: Boxing Thread- I'll fight Berto and JMM/Diaz (PPV) SAT

Dont think any bars are gonna be showing the fight so ill probably watch it online. Main event will hopefully be exciting but not expecting much change in the result.
