Povetkin stays relevant but risks falling into Ortiz territory where top guys won’t get in the ring with you unless they’ve got some real balls.
ESPN+, 7:30 pm ET, Eleider Alvarez vs Joe Smith Jr, Rob Brant vs Vitalii Kopylenko, CLAY COLLARD! vs Maurice Williams. Like Whyte-Povetkin at heavyweight, Alvarez-Smith at light heavyweight is a matchup of two legit top 10 fighters, so it’s nice to have that again, and two in one day! Brant is returning after a 13-month layoff against Kopylenko, who isn’t a complete scrub or anything. Alvarez, 36, is a former titleholder, having upset Sergey Kovalev in Aug. 2018, only to lose the belt back to him in the Feb. 2019 rematch. But the Colombian-Canadian remains a top contender at 175 pounds, and the heavy-handed Smith is never a pushover, as the 30-year-old from Long Island is dangerous throughout any fight. The co-feature will see former secondary middleweight titlist Rob Brant take on Vitalii Kopylenko in a 10-round bout, and we’ll also see fan favorite Clay Collard, the pro debut of featherweight Duke Ragan, and much more.
Yeah he’s good. Had he lost though coming off the draw against Hunter, he probably goes down to gatekeeper status for young HW’s.
Clay Collard just keeps destroying dudes. Idk man, throw him in some deep waters against someone good and see what he’s got.
that sucks. Didn’t the ESPN card start later? Grilled some bacon burgers and drank some bourbon at the start of this card. I wish we were a smarter country and could have live CFB.
Okay guys so I am starting the porter fight. Introductions don’t have me hopeful but let’s see what happens.
Ring walks about to start. Decent crowd there which is surprising and masks are optional. This seems to be a big fucking deal in Australia.
That’s a good stoppage. Electric stuff from Tszyu. Horn should retire. Given where he started and his lack of relative talent, he’s had a hell of a career and a signature win that rivals just about anyone’s.
Jeff Horn got that ass fucking whooped. Good, can't fucking stand that guy. Tszyu wore Horn's body the fuck out. Ref had to stop it before the 9th rd.
ESPN+, 2:00 pm ET, Daniel Dubois vs Ricardo Snijders, Sunny Edwards vs Thomas Essomba, Sam Maxwell vs Joe Hughes. Dubois is back, facing late replacement Snijders, who wouldn’t be here if anyone thought he could win. Dubois’ main goal right now is to win, no cuts or anything, and move on to an October fight with Joe Joyce — maybe. Frank Warren has been adamant he won’t do that without a crowd, and it’s iffy at best that October will have crowds for UK boxing. Edwards-Essomba has some quiet potential for an upset, as talented as Edwards is.
Later we have August 29: Las Vegas (Watch on ESPN+) 6:30pm CST Title fight: Jose Ramirez vs. Viktor Postol, 12 rounds, for Ramirez's WBC/WBO junior welterweight title Arnold Barboza Jr. vs. Tony Luis, 10 rounds, junior welterweights Elvis Rodriguez vs. Cody Wilson, 6 rounds, welterweights Gabriel Muratalla vs. Justice Bland, 4 rounds, bantamweights Cesar Valenzuela vs. Raymond Muratalla vs. Cesar Valenzuela, 8 rounds, lightweights Rance Ward vs. Javier Martinez, 6 rounds, middleweights August 29: Los Angeles (Fox/Fox Deportes) 7pm CST Title fights: Erislandy Lara vs. Greg Vendetti, 12 rounds, for Lara's WBA "regular" junior middleweight title Alfredo Angulo vs. Vladimir Hernandez, 10 rounds, super middleweights Thomas LaManna vs. Brian Mendoza, 10 rounds, junior middleweights Abram Martinez vs. Luis Arcon, 8 rounds, junior welterweights Justin Pauldo vs. Josec Ruiz, 8 rounds, junior welterweights Jose Valenzuela vs. Zack Kuhn, 6 rounds, junior welterweight
