Not sure why anyone counts when a fighter falls face first. SK is too big for Canelo imo so is Smith.
Just saw the KO. My god. Went to Hootie and the Blowfish and Barenaked Ladies tonight so I missed it. Fantastic show
Out of the blue we got rained out golfing and someone we knew was going. We were like fuck it let’s do it. Had no expectation but absolutely amazing
Okay Joe , you are clearly in a bad space today,, But, the Barenaked Ladies are triple platinum, are you? BNL has two Billboard Awards to your zero! You know what? Maybe we all need some space, to pull the knife out of the back of the most celebrated Canadian alt-rock band of the mid 90s, you selfish, jaded, ass!
I thought the KO count starts by the ref and after the ref confirms the other boxer is going to neutral corner? Here he starts at 4 after confirming with another party. Seems like the count method changes with the ref.
The Athletic announced they're getting into boxing coverage this morning, and hired three great guys. Lance Pugmire, formerly of the LA Times, Mike Coppinger, who breaks all the news lately and was at The Ring, and Rafe Bartholomew, who covered boxing at Grantland.
wish hbo and showtime would team up and do a boxing channel. we pay a yearly fee. get replay of old fights, new shows, and all new fights. i.e. like golf channel.
I could be wrong but doesn’t England have a channel that shows all fights (including ppv) sky boxing right?
One big card tonight, but couple other interesting ones during the day. First up: DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, Mairis Briedis vs Krzysztof Glowacki, Yunier Dorticos vs Andrew Tabiti. The WBSS tournament that even DAZN seem to have mildly forgotten about in favor of the 118 and 140 tournaments, these cruiserweight semifinals are good matchups, all of these guys top 10 fighters. Effectively, with Usyk and Gassiev both moving to heavyweight, Briedis vs Glowacki is really a 1 vs 2 matchup in the division, and the WBC and WBO titles are both on the line. Dorticos-Tabiti is a good fight, too, but it’s the obvious “less than” fight of these two.
And then: ESPN+, 3:00 pm ET, Josh Warrington vs Kid Galahad. Warrington defends his IBF featherweight title in Leeds, home field advantage against unbeaten Kid Galahad. This is a good matchup on paper, and odds last I checked are actually a little tighter than I expected. The card also features JJ Metcalf vs Jason Welborn for the Commonwealth 154-pound title, Zelfa Barrett vs Lyon Woodstock for the Commonwealth 130-pound title, and more.
Then the big one: ESPN+, 10:00 pm ET, Tyson Fury vs Tom Schwarz, Jesse Hart vs Sullivan Barrera. Fury returns for his debut under the ESPN/Top Rank banner, and they’re clearly putting a lot into this fight. They maybe got something of a boost from Andy Ruiz Jr beating Anthony Joshua, putting into the air that idea that Schwarz might also shock the world. This feeling for on-paper mismatches won’t last forever — GGG and Oscar Valdez did about as expected this weekend, for instance — but everyone will milk it for a bit. Hart-Barrera is a legitimately good fight, Hart coming up from 168 and Barrera looking to hold firm as a contender at 175.
SC I appreciate you keeping this thread going and updating the title. This is my sole Source of boxing info and how I know what’s going on.
I watched a Schwarz fight from last year against some random German dude and it was a pretty even fight through 6 rounds until the other guy got dq'd for head butts. I get it considering what we've seen but I don't think Schwarz is nearly threat Ruiz is/was going into the fight.
It’s funny, Chris Algeri said the same thing on Chris Mannix’s podcast this week. Says we know he gets up for big events like the Wilder and Wlad fights. Less evidence he does for fights like this.
That ref fucked that round all up. Didn't hear the bell go off and lets them keep fighting and dude gets KD. Gives him a standing 8 and he gets ready to start the round back up while everyone's yelling/waving at him trying to tell him the rounds over.
ESPN is hyping the fuck out of a bigot in Tyson Fury Proves they care more about promoting ESPN Plus more than they do their morals.
Surprised both guys took that round off for the most part. Whomever can step on the gas here could really benefit.
