AJ acting like he beat up Ruiz is funny but it’s why it’s called boxing and not fighting. Boring ass fight. DW would mop the floor with this limey wanker.
AJ boxed wonderfully, but I thought that was an awfully timid and cautious performance, albeit one that got him a wide win. Reluctant to engage. Smarter fight, but much less entertaining. Ruiz needs to get in enough shape to cut the ring off. Get AJ off his bike, and we saw he could have success.
AJ with a great game plan and near perfect execution. If you don't understand or enjoy the art of boxing I can see the complaints about it being boring. Maybe keep to watching UFC. Either way I don't want to see a third fight. Especially with a fat out of shape Ruiz.
Complete 180 from the first fight, where AJ had no coherent plan at all. Have to credit him for sticking to the plan and being in good enough shape with his lower body to keep it up for 12 rounds.
This. This didn't prepare for a rematch at all, and assumed it would be a repeat of the first. Not a beautiful win, bit a smart fight from Joshua. Cant fault it really.
It wasn't competitive and thus the fight less entertaining but I did enjoy the performance put on by AJ.
When did I say I know who you are? Reading the crap you write itt tells me who you are when it comes to boxing. You have horrible takes when it comes to boxing. I can only surmise you’re a little man by those takes. But, I couldn’t careless who you are.
After AJ showing the discipline to stay away, not sure I want to see that fight again. Give me Joshua vs Wilder/Fury and take all my money.
It wasn't an exciting fight, but I'm going to blame the guy who couldn't be bothered to even maintain his shape while trying to defend his heavyweight title for that.
As long as Fury comes in mentally and physically in shape I think he destroys him. Can’t imagine DW not KOing him in less than 6.
Appreciating & enjoying are completely separate. He executed a safe, boring strategy near perfectly against someone that is inferior in every measurable. That shouldn’t be applauded
Ruiz has a better chin and faster hands than AJ. But, you’re point remains. I can understand why he did what he did but that doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it.
Yeah... Ruiz has a better chin and faster hands but plodding feet. He couldn't ever cut the ring off or bob and weave his way in, all he could do is chase. AJ never took a chance and just boxed the fat kid's ears off without ever letting it turn into a brawl. He sat on a few punches and landed a few hard shots but he took no chances and Ruiz made it easy for him by showing up in worse shape than the last fight. I think for us as fans, it sucks because AJ never really imposed his will upon Ruiz, he just sort of held him off for the whole fight. I think that's what AJ needed to get his confidence back, is to get a convincing victory where his chin was never tested.
I guess if you’re looking for nuance I’d say that my point was the one to blame was Ruiz - he was the one who made it a no-brainer.
I posted Ruiz being out of shape hurt his performance. Jorts said AJ was better at everything. I posted two things were Ruiz had the advantage. You agreed. Not sure what point you are trying to make that you think I’ll disagree with.
Jesus. Charlo just knocked Hogan into next week with a perfect left hand. First time Hogan has been KO’d.
Good DAZN card tonight if anyone is jonesing for some boxing. Comparable to a quality ShoBox or FNF back in the day. Elite prospect Vergil Ortiz in the main event. DAZN, 9:00 pm ET, Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Brad Solomon. There’s plenty of talent on the show, and Ortiz is a can’t-miss guy right now. Solomon is a solid vet who never panned out as a prospect, really, but Ortiz has been just thrashing everyone. In the main event, 21-year-old welterweight Vergil Ortiz Jr looks to stay perfect as a pro as he faces 36-year-old veteran Brad Solomon, a once-beaten former prospect who just never quite panned out. Ortiz and Golden Boy are basically on the hunt for someone who can at least kind of test Ortiz right now. They tried Mauricio Herrera and Antonio Orozco earlier this year and both were beaten down. The main card also features returns for Alberto Machado, the former 130-pound titleholder moving up to 135 tonight against Luis Porozo; Bektemir Melikuziev, the 23-year-old super middleweight from Uzbekistan who is trying to move fast in his pro career, taking on Vaughn Alexander this evening; and Alexis Rocha, the 22-year-old welterweight, who tonight faces Roberto Valenzuela
Alright, folks. Big card tonight, with a star in the main event and an EXTREMELY compelling fight in the co-main. ESPN, 9:00 pm ET, Terence Crawford vs Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Richard Commey vs Teofimo Lopez, Michael Conlan vs Vladimir Nikitin. Two world title fights, one expected to be a rout (Crawford-Kavaliauskas) and the other a big matchup between a good titleholder and a potential rising star (Commey-Lopez), plus the Conlan-Nikitin grudge match. ESPN is putting a fair amount of promotion into this, with a countdown show airing on ESPN2 and ESPNews, and Crawford’s wins over Julius Indongo and Jose Benavidez Jr airing in the early afternoon on ESPNews. This is also Top Rank’s last big card of 2019. Crawford, 32, has won titles at 135, 140, and 147, and is considered one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. He’s a big favorite tonight against the 31-year-old Kavaliauskas, a Lithuanian battler coming off of a draw against Ray Robinson. The most interesting matchup for most fans is the co-feature, with the 32-year-old Commey of Ghana taking on 22-year-old Brooklyn fighter Lopez, seen as a top rising star in the sport. The show will also feature a featherweight bout between Michael Conlan and Vladimir Nikitin, a rematch of their Rio 2016 fight where Belfast’s Conlan was defeated in very controversial fashion by the Russian.
