Busy day. Panthers re-sign: Fozzy (2yr, $2.5M) Charles Johnson (2yr, $9.5M) Colin Jones (2yr) Brenton Bersin (1yr)
He wasn't good last year, but the hope is he's healthy now and playing with his brother will be a positive.
Mixed about this too, but I believe DG when it comes to his hog mollies. Ealy has been very inconsistent.
Ealy was going to get cut, so it goes. Wasnt starting or playing that much down the stretch last year.
Ealy was annoying as shit. Feel like he jumped offsides at every key moment last year. Probably could have gotten better value for him, but oh well. Pep, CJ, Addison, Horton and a likely draft pick is pretty salty at DE, especially considering they also throw KK out there in some packages.
Running back for sure. They've had a bunch of TE's in on visits, so I'd expect a TE as well. At least one WR, probably of the slot variety, a defensive end, DB and perhaps a developmental OT. Wouldn't be totally shocked by a linebacker at some point late.
For better or worse, Panthers have always valued RB's different than most. It's a good RB class, and they seem determined to find their Stewart replacement in this draft.
DE would be the smartest move, our lack of a pass rush from the front 4 is glaring right now. I'd be happy with Barnett.
I'd take the white. Elite athlete with proven production in a pro style offense. 8 seemed like it would be too high for him a few months ago but every new mock draft has him a few spots higher. I think we'll go Fournette if he's there but wouldn't be disappointed at all by taking McCaffery.
What's the word bros? Charlotte paper mocked Mccaffrey, Zay Jones the ECU WR, and then your home town Wolfpack's Josh Jones at S as the first 3 picks. Would be sick imo.
Still don't like McCaffrey as the rb pick but I also didn't want cam at the time so what do I know. Feel like we really really need help in the trenches more so than a rb in the first round. Is this not a great draft for lineman?
All signs point to RB first, which I don't necessarily agree with but whatever. After that (or even with that first pick), we've shown the willingness to go best available but I would probably go best available OL/DB. Probably need to snag a LB late too.
Not at 8, especially for OL. Nobody worth it that high up and not many teams want to trade up this year because of the depth at DE, DB, TE, and WR. If Solomon Thomas somehow fell to 8 I have to assume we'd jump on that, but otherwise it would be Derek Barnett if we wanted a DE I guess?
The interesting thing will be what does Carolina do if all three of Thomas, Fournette and CM are off the board.
If we take McCaffrey as our first pick I'm going to blow a gasket. Taking a RB in the first round, with our current situation doesn't seem like its the best choice. If Fournette is an option, taking him seems like it has so much more upside, if he isn't available, I think we can bargain for a RB in later rounds. /TLDR in short, I really pray we don't pick McCaffrey
Wouldn't be surprised if they tried to trade back in that scenario. Maybe to take Barnett or John Ross?
The all of a sudden mocks of McCaffrey to the panthers, makes me believe Barnett or someone on the DL will be the 1st selection.
