Agree. I wasnt really commenting on that aspect. I do think it's possible they strategically decided to announce it now, because no one will be talking about it in a week when everyone will be focused on Disney+
When Disney bought LF they mostly allowed independence because they trusted Kennedy and thought she’d smooth the transition. Now Iger’s bear hugging it
they've let Feige run Marvel without much interference. I'm not sure if Kennedy is the problem or not, but it sure seems likely at this point.
Just throwing my thoughts out there, dont post in here much but read/follow the thread as I am a huge Star Wars guy. I have generally liked the new trilogy, and also really enjoyed Rogue One and Solo. but I agree that one of the biggest problems in the new trilogy has been the lack of oversight/long term planning. They should have gotten together and planned out episodes 7, 8 and 9. At the very least a general arc should have been put together. They could have decided on the way to re-introduce the audience to all the characters and where they wanted to the story to end. Working from a general starting/endpoint for the story/characters would have provided enough structure for the story but the directors could have then played with everything that happens in the middle. It should not have been 1 directors decision who/when some of original characters died.
It's really hard to imagine Kathleen Kennedy being as bad as she apparently is, seeing as how prior to running Lucasfilm she was one of the top producers in the last fifty years of Hollywood. Maybe she's just not fit for being the head honcho over one specific brand.
I think that's the issue. They need a creative person overseeing the broad direction and how everything fits together, not someone who traditionally does single films and moves to the next one.

I enjoyed all the movies as well. However, I think most of the criticism of the films are valid. TFA was a remake of ANH. That didnt bother me because it introduced a lot of cool shit, but I understand how that turned some fans off. TLJ - There's a lot to go into obviously, btu I think there are good faith criticisms of it. Ive said before, I liked in a vacuum. I think it asked a lot of interesting questions about The Force, Luke ect. But - it also just threw out a lot of the most interesting parts of TFA. TROS has a lot of work to make TLJ work within the trilogy, all while trying to land the ending. Tough task for JJ. Rogue One was pretty damn awesome. Ive heard people bitch about the slow pacing in the begining. That's true, but also pretty knit picky. Solo was pretty meh all around. I didn't hate though.

Just to clairify, I did enjoy solo and I wouldn’t mind if they to made another with a real story since they got all the fan service moments out of the way in the first one

Great writers should be able to retell the mythology and put their own spin on the stories and characters. Going into public domain doesn't mean the Lucas Star Wars movies die. It just means the stories and characters are no longer locked in as the only versions to be told (and controlled by one entity). It's a good thing for stories, not a bad one.
Disagree wrt continuity. It’s hard for me to enjoy a story if I know it “it doesn’t count” (for lack of a better phrase) to the actual story.

I think that sucks, he's an excellent director. Sticking him in the middle of an unwritten story arc is really my only complaint with his TLJ work product. He did trash whatever JJ was setting up and left him with very few questions to answer. Give him his own space to work and he'll make perhaps the best SW movies.
Public Domain and storyline continuity are mutually exclusive things. Really it's apples and oranges since there is no "story" in that case. It's intellectual property to be adapted by anyone. No one says "I wish there was just one King Arthur storyline so I could keep up with it." No, people read a plurality of stories based on the characters, or they read one they like and discard the rest, etc. Same with Frankenstein's Monster, etc. Whatever, it's not worth arguing since it's a cow's opinion anyway.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see KK resign next year. They'll call it something else, like "stepping away" or "passing the torch" but it'll be a force-out. She was told to make Star Wars into an annual franchise like Marvel and now they're having to walk that back and say "it needs to breathe." Personally I think Star Wars movies should be a generational affair, and with D+ you can tell all kinds of stories in short and long form there. Nevertheless, Iger (who made the "it needs to breathe" comment last week) was the one who initially wanted an annual affair with it. KK failed to deliver so she's gone, imo. What sucks is they'll probably try to appease stockholders with a splashy name as the next head of LFL, when really it ought to just be given to Filoni to be their version of Feige.
This is my opinion as well. They can have a multitude of shows taking place in the Star Wars Universe, and drop a trilogy in theaters every 10 years or so which shake up the universe in a big way. They do it with movies, but similar to what Marvel does with The Avengers films. Rest of the movies take place in the MCU, but (for the most part) the big changes happen in the tentpole films. Honestly, it could be they realized it and that's why they are bringing in Feige.
Rian Johnson getting the ability to deliver a vision untethered to direct existing storylines would result in awesome stories. So of course it won’t happen

It absolutely blows my mind that they did not plan the trilogy out better. Why did they even bring in Rian Johnson? I guess I was going into TLJ expecting Johnson and Abrams to be in cahoots wrt how the trilogy would play out. It's unreal that KK allowed Rian to just shit all over what Abrams was setting up. I understand bringing in a new director to put his own spin on the tone and feel to the film, but to allow him to basically re-write the direction of the trilogy was such a mistake.
So most of the plot and the ending has been leaked and its....yikes tier not good Spoiler Rey is Palpatine's granddaugther The ending is her going to confront Palpatine Kylo Ren is redeemed and is going by Ben Solo again Ben goes after Rey but is stopped by the Knights of Ren Ben gets his hands on either Anakin or Leia's lightsaber, deals with the Knights, gets to Rey to confront Palpatine together Some movie plot explanation about how Rey and Ben/Kylo's force connection makes them stronger when near each other and that's the key to Palpatine restoring himself. Palpatine siphons their force powers to fully revive himself, force lightning blasts Ben into a dark hole or w/e, Ben is never heard from again. Force ghosts show up to restore Rey's power, Rey 1 on 1 solos the emperor and kills him. End of the film Rey buries Anakin and Leia's lightsaber, constructs a golden saber for herself. A local asks who she is, Rey answers "Rey Skywalker", basically just calling herself a Skywalker for no reason, thus "Rise of the Skywalker" End credits
