definitely not. JJ has shown he can deliver crowd pleasing movies. The story is in an interesting place and he still has the option of ghost Luke to help soothe the "wounds".
I don’t know how to feel The prequels were terrible I was ok with the force awakens and last Jedi Rouge one was great Solo sucked
Why does anyone think JJ will be able to "fix" Star Wars? TFA was basically a paint by numbers carbon copy of ANH, hoping JJ can re-invent the wheel and delivery something revolutionary is a pipe dream. In terms of fixing the plot, Episode 8 was essentially the Iron Man 3 to the MCU of the Star Wars universe. "Oh you want to keep Tony Stark around for 5 more movies? Too bad I don't give a shit, I'm having him blow up all his armor and make Mandarin a joke". "Oh JJ wanted to reveal Rey's heritage as a 3 movie long build up and had big plans for Luke? Too bad I decided Rey's parents were nobodies and Luke Skywalker dies after 20 mins of screentime" Not saying Episode 8 was as bad of a movie as IM3, but in terms of how big of a wretch it throws in their universe, it did the same amount of damage if not more. The MCU had the benefit of pretending like Iron Man 3 didn't exist and can have Tony Stark rebuild all 50 armors he blew up with fans suspending some disbelief, but nothing JJ can do in Episode 9 can explain away Episode 8 unless you do the incredibly stupid plot of "Oh Kylo was lying and oh Snoke isn't dead and neither is Luke".
they can definitely spin the Kylo was lying part without it being odd, though at this point we really don't know if JJ had any plan at all for what her parentage would be or if he's upset with the decision Johnson made with it. Same goes with Luke and Snoke. Luke he can still use. He can still explore Rey's parentage. He can't reverse Snoke's death and I think it's been established that Sith can't be force ghosts, but I'm not sure about "dark side users" as opposed to Sith specifically. Or he can do something completely new and go in a different direction. The end of TLJ with the presumed time jump to follow allows for a fair amount of freedom. Just can't use still alive Luke. He doesn't have to do anything revolutionary. Fuck, half you guys lost your goddamn minds when Johnson did something unexpected. All JJ needs to do is press those previous Stars Wars feel good buttons again to get the general populace back on board. That said, JJ isn't here to fix Star Wars. It isn't on the film makers right now, it's on the suits.
That's a Lucasfilm issue by not planning out a sequel trilogy outline and hiring 3 different directors initially for each episode. Planning as you go didn't work and thus created a disjointed story.
what's he going to rehash? There's no setup for a ESB or ROTJ clone. of course he's going to hit nostalgic Star Wars notes. It's kinda the point of doing this.
The Kylo was lying thing isn't that big of a stretch. I always wondered why we were supposed to take what he said at face value. He would have said anything to get Rey on his side .
Guys, Rian had Ep. 8 written before TFA was even done. JJ expressly stated he thought it was great and he wished he could direct it. He was on board with the direction Rian took Rey. I am fully convinced that JJ made TFA open ended, like he is known to do, and was relying on Ep. 8s story to guide the trilogy. Or maybe not relying on it, but wanting to give the Ep. 8 team lots of room to steer the story in any direction they wanted. I don't know if he can now steer it to a successful conclusion, but I'm an eternal optomist so I think he can.
I think JJ is a company man and was mostly doing PR with the “wish I had directed the script” comment which I don’t mind. I also think Rian didn’t like TFA and it showed in his creative choices and where he left the galaxy at the end of TLJ. That being said, I mostly very much enjoyed both movies and am very much looking forward to where the trilogy ends.
No Not to mention that all the EU stuff that featured all those main characters, pretty much sucked. Maybe one storyline was ok, but trying to shoehorn all 3 together all the time made for some painful reading
This is the reason I wanted them to do an entirely new story right off the bat instead of revisiting the old characters.
My guess is the one at the end where Chewie is sitting in the Falcon and turns to look at Rey when traveling to Ahch-To.
Auralnauts continuing to be my favorite Star Wars content, perhaps as much or more than the actual Star Wars content.
I much prefer their version of the prequels. Larry Kenobi having a bass fight with Jango gets me everytime
the premium of time. If you're willing to wait, I'm sure all the movies will be available on the Disney streaming service whenever it starts up.
I really would like to see Solo again but don't want to go to the theater and it's not really available anymore anyway. I look forward to the bright never to come future when we can pay a premium to buy movies for streaming early.
Agreed on that. I have my problems with the movie but it was beautifully shot. The throne room fight scene and the the lightspeed collision scene were amazing visually.
Those are the most obvious examples but I really loved the forcetime scenes (sans Kylos weird torso) as more low key examples. Just great, natural filmmaking
Watching the behind the scenes stuff that comes with the dvd is really cool. I liked how they filmed the scene where Like walked in on Rey and Kylo and blows the hut to pieces.
I hope they use Ahch-To in live action again Maybe in the benioff and Weiss movies that are hopefully old republic type stuff
picked it up before he fled the death star did vader's saber fall down with his severed hand? i can't remember now
