I am definitely good with that. Thanks.

    Poe will suffice.

Appreciate the comments. Maybe I should've phrased my original post differently. I guess a 'darker' theme like Rogue One idk. I'm excited for the tv series and will watch it gleefully regardless.

Twitter reactions for Solo are pretty good. Sounds pretty fun, which is all I want.

Reports are that Obi-Wan will be the 2020 movie (with Ewan) and production starts this year.

Very curious about this. What would the time frame be? We've already dug in to much of his background in Clone Wars and Ewan seems a bit too old to back up further than that. Are they going to show him hiding out in the desert?

Gonna guess that Obi Wan is the 2020 movie
    RJ's trilogy is 2021, 2023, 2025
    and they have other stand-alones in 2022, 2024, 2026

Then Episode X comes in 2027.

Although it's clear Kennedy doesn't have near the long-term planning of Kevin Feige, perhaps by choice.

the Benioff and Weiss stuff has to fit in there somewhere.

I was thinking we would basically do away with the stand alones, especially since both productions have been troubled, and would alternate between RJ and B&W. Of course, there's a bigger chance of viewer confusion if it's dueling trilogies bouncing back and forth, but if B&W just kind of assume the standalone story mantle, that could work.

I get the impression they want ongoing continuity, though, since that's what they're used to.

No plot spoilers below. Just some character development that doesn't impact the story at all

'Star Wars' writer confirms Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian is pansexual in 'Solo'
    Carly Mallenbaum, USA TODAYPublished 4:47 p.m. ET May 17, 2018 | Updated 8:21 a.m. ET May 18, 2018
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Young Han Solo meets his future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian. USA TODAY

Here's something Star Wars fans have long known about Lando Calrissian: He's likely the most charismatic character in the galaxy.

Here's something they just learned, via Solo: A Star Wars Story writer Jonathan Kasdan: Lando (played by Donald Glover and, earlier, Billy Dee Williams) is pansexual.

Huffington Post, Kasdan said, "There’s a fluidity to Donald and Billy Dee's (portrayal of Lando’s) sexuality." He continued, "I mean, I would have loved to have gotten a more explicitly LGBT character into this movie. I think it’s time, certainly, for that, and I love the fluidity ― sort of the spectrum of sexuality that Donald appeals to and that droids are a part of.”

In Solo, Donald Glover's Lando is as charming as he's always been since Empire Strikes Back, and maybe even more into his capes than ever before. In the new film, his female droid L3-37 (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) comments, "I'm sure you noticed that Lando has feelings for me." And, as some fans have noted since the Solo trailer was released, Lando is flirty toward Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich), at one point calling him "baby."

Waller-Bridge told USA TODAY this about Lando's relationship with her droid in the film: "The fact that they can be rude and short with each and they can boss each other around is actually what reveals their love for each other and trust for each other," she said. "They’re both very independent characters in their own right and yet they’ve chosen to partner with each other. There’s something I think really romantic about that."

She continued: "This world of Star Wars is just so accepting and beautiful that the idea a droid and a human are trying to waddle their way into a relationship is something that’s celebrated."

But there's nothing overt about Lando's sexuality in the film; nothing romantic goes on between him and any human or droid.

Jonathan Kasdan's father, co-writer and longtime Star Wars scribe Lawrence Kasdan, didn't weigh in on Lando's sexuality in the Huffington Post interview, which he was present for. But the younger Kasdan says Lando's pansexuality is canon.

"I would say yes," he said. “He doesn’t make any hard and fast rules."

Cue the Internet reaction that comes from announcing an LGBTQ character in one of the biggest movie franchises in the world.

I don't really care what someone's sexuality is. If Lando is into dudes and robots as much as he is women, that's his business.

I just don't want that to be a substitute for a compelling story/character arc. That's always been my problem with so-called "SJW" stuff. It can't be an excuse for bad writing.

Since Kasdan wrote this, I assume the writing is good and this is just an incidental he's tossing out there.

I was mostly thinking about the backlash to the backlash against the Ghostbusters remake. How all the criticism was reduced to "they just don't like it because it's an all-female team."

So if I criticize a character in a movie who happens to be gay or whatever, I don't want someone to say "you only hate him because he's gay" etc.

As long as it is fits naturally and/or ADDS to the story, I'm fine with it. In some of the novels, it feels like the issue was forced just for the sake of forcing the issue, like what they did to Tarkin.

I think all of the last few novels have had some LGBT reference, but I think Last Shot had the most "natural" references that didn't detract from the story (and unrelated to the pseudo-spoiler above).

That goes for any romanced force into a story, regardless of sexuality. Sinjir it was an important part of his character development. Wedge and Snap's mom - it was dumb. Tarkin it was dumb.

    It doesn't?

Write a bad character who happens to be gay (or a woman, or black, or any minority I guess) and then defend the bad writing by saying "well you don't like it because you don't like _____"

That's annoying. I was saying I'm glad they're not doing that with Solo because I trust Kasdan

One of the few I haven't read because of this. I'm not really a general fan of fiction novels, but I'm a fan of Star Wars. If the book doesn't add to my appreciation for the rest of the canon, I'm not sold on investing any time in it. I've only heard positive things about it, but still don't know if I'll ever read it.

Kennedy shouldn't have hired Lord and Miller to do Solo in the first place. That movie was always Kasdan's baby and he wasn't going to let some improv writer-directors come in and fiddle with his story.

They might've worked on a different Star Wars story but Solo needed someone different.

Of course, the underlying issue at Lucasfilm right now is that Kennedy is not Feige; she's a businesswoman not a creative mind so there's never going to be a big unifying vision shepherding all the movies.
