You want a good read? This is a good read. https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/201...an-johnsons-direction-with-the-last-jedi.html
It's so weird that so many fans want everyone related to someone else. How big is this galaxy? I think that the prequels and the Clone Wars animated series were at their best when they were trying to expand the galaxy, seeing more and more rather than only relying on the narrow Skywalker family.
It's weird that people want the Skywalker story to ultimately end in tragedy as the last of the line dies an evil despot in a young adult movie series. But ok
I didn't realize that was the way they were going to end Leia's arc. What a twist, last of the Skywalker line. Edit, duh unless of course you meant Kylo. Thought you were complaining about Luke. Tragedy is the best though, Hamlet is my shit.
Regardless of your opinions of either movie, there is zero chance Rian’s TLJ played out the major beats the way JJ and Co. planned after TFA
I still don't think he had much of a solid idea where he wanted things to go, especially wrt Rey's parentage.
JJ had barely more than a rough idea where the sequels might go, simply because he never planned to direct another one. Rian wrote a full treatment for EP9 while writing TLJ. Both collaberated together on EP7 and 8. There wasn't a set plan to start with but there has never been that for Star Wars. Lucas first trilogy was done on the fly and the prequels were started in 95 with only three main points (clone wars, anakin falls, Palpatine uses polotics to rise to power).
Yes but he stepped away because he was busy with post production while IX was supposed to be in pre production. Colin Treverrow threw out RJ's treatment and started writing it his own retarded self.
Lucasfilm's The Star Wars Show is broadcasting live from a stage set in the heart of Star Wars Celebration, and is delivering exclusive one-on-one interviews with the cast of Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker, the creators of Vader Immortal, and Respawn's CEO Vince Zampella, who will likely be on in the day's ahead as well when he has more to share about Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. Zampella didn't want to reveal much ahead of the game's official reveal (tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. CT), but did light up the crowd by saying "It's a single-player story with no multiplayer and no microtransactions. It's a story game." The "no microtranactions line" brought a big cheer. Jedi: Fallen Order is set in the dark times shortly after Emperor Palpatine initiated Order 66 – his command to wipe out all of the Jedi.
Reinforces that creatively they were a mess I kinda feel bad for Kennedy because at the end of the day I think she’s a suit who isn’t a Feige type that’s super passionate about the material or creative aspect
I don't know if I feel bad for her. I think she's a very arrogant person who should have hired a Kevin Feige type to be the Star Wars creative overseer. I blame her for the "creative mess" as you put it, and I think Disney does too. She was almost fired after Solo flopped according to reports.
It wouldn’t surprise me if she’s out before the next feature film after TRoS is released and her departure is part of the “hiatus” and figuring out what direction they want to go in.
I'm sure she'll retire. From what I read when she came on, she never intended to be a long-term head of LFL; she was ready to retire anyway
While I don't love TFA upon subsequent viewings, I really wish someone else was directing this one. Don't really trust JJ to deliver anything original.
TFA was executed exactly as everyone involved wanted it to be. Disney and JJ agreed that it needed to be a syrupy nostalgia trip to win back the casual audience that turned away from the prequels. Fans complained because it was "unoriginal" but that's SW fans for you. Now with EP9 Disney needs someone who can make a story that ties three trilogies together and JJ is perfect for that. It'll be another nostalgia trip, plucking things from the prequels and original trilogy to hit those notes, but that's what Disney wants and, in a lot of ways, that's an appropriate/thematic send-off to this 9-movie saga. TLJ will be remembered as the one that did the radical stuff, that didn't lean on nostalgia, that dared to show new things (force projection is the first new force talent on display since Luke grabbed the lightsaber at the beginning of Empire). Fans complained because it was too "original" but that's SW fans for you. TLJ had the thankless task and, fittingly, Rian is getting little thanks for it.
TLJ was really good. Also, just showed my son (9) Solo for the first time. It gets better with rewatches.
Im sure Ive shared these thoughts a dozen times already but --- I loved TFA. I think the criticisms are valid, but the fact it was a lot of 'fan service' didnt bother me one bit. I loved it all. I loved TLJ. I think a lot of the criticism around "you just cant do that" are misguided. I think the movie, as a singular story was great. Im disappointed that most of the threads left to pull from TFA were either left alone, completely ignored, or rendered completely insignificant. I think Rian put JJ in a real tough spot to stick this landing. My concern is JJ being able to address most of the big questions he started, in a satisfying way that doesnt completely retcon TLJ.
Watched Last Jedi tonight. That’s a good ass movie. Great arc for Luke. Great performance by Hamill. Sequence in the throne room and light speed jump to salt planet is fucking sick. Luke goes out like a boss and anyone who disagrees is wrong. By far the best looking Star Wars film.
I'm not trying to start a debate on the quality of the movie or anything. I know that's been done to death in here. But I like it less every time I watch it. I liked it the first time I saw it.
Worst take honestly watched it again today and it was worse than before Mark Hamill got screwed so hard
I am the opposite. I left the theater conflicted becuse RJ did things far differently than I was expecting. After I got over it I watched it again the next night and appreciated it more. I like it more with every viewing.
