https://theempirestripsback.com/san-francisco/ Jokingly sent this link to some friends who like to go to SF and they wrote back that one of their other friends had gone, said it was pretty good
https://deadline.com/2024/08/the-acolyte-canceled-no-season-2-star-wars-disney-plus-1236044233/ Aw man. I'm not saying it was the greatest show, but it was new, not Skywalker centered content and could have gone in some interesting directions.
The entire arc of that series is a perfect distillation on how Disney and Lucas Film continue to waste the IP. Its originally pitched as a show from the sith point of view to show how their not evil by nature and the Jedi are carrot. Disney says no and wants something different made, so we end up with this rendition of the show. It ultimately did had no lasting impact on anything and the story was very blah. The most interesting part of the entire story was the sith, which likely would have been the basis for the second season. All of that wasted for no reason. Not to mention it randomly introduced one of the most iconic characters to live action for the first time, all for nothing. It continues to bewilder me that they cannot out together stories and shows/movies that have planned out arcs. There’s so much untapped potential and they keep squandering it.
They better find another vehcile for Manny Jacinto in the Star Wars universe. Thought he did a great job and was genuinely interested to see where his character went.
Didn’t help that the show runner was proudly telling everyone that she’d never seen Star Wars before writing this show. The best compliment I saw for this was “it would have been a better show if not set in the Star Wars universe” is extremely telling. When you work in an IP like this, you have to do your research because people will see right through you if you don’t. Ex Michael Gambon and Dumbledore.
If she didn't say that in the media, do you honestly believe you'd have noticed anything? Seriously. The show looked and felt very Star Wars, but set in an era we've never seen on screen before.
I dont think that it could be a bad thing, especially for something like star wars. Giving the story to someone that can approach it with a different perspective and focus could bring new vision to a story. Star Wars seemingly wants to continue to copy and paste the same feel and vibe with everything, and its rarely worked. However, if you are going to bring in a different voice then you need to trust that voice and let them tell the story they want. I don't think that happened in this situation and it hurt the overall product and once again pushed the fanbase further away. I think this is why we see so many directors cycle in and out of potential projects, Lucas Film never gives them the opportunity to tell the story they want.
I'm not saying every storyteller needs to be a life long star wars fan. I'm saying to play in a universe that is as established as star wars, harry potter, LoTR, etc, you have to take the time to emerse yourself in that lore to be able to do justice to the IP. If you shoe horn your ideas in without making sure they fit the lore, it comes off as fake and doesn't work. That's what happened with Acolyte imo. I disagree about copy/paste the same feel and vibe. The best stuff SW has done in the past decade all feel and look completely different. Rogue One Mandalorian Andor SW Rebels SW Clone Wars They all look and feel completely diffferent but still held true tot he world that had been built prior. There is a fine line between expanding the universe and changing it. The products that straight up change it get massive push back.
seems like the lawsuit was brought in 2019 (still a few years after Rogue One) and the judge wasn’t persuaded that Tyburn had a good case but there wasn’t enough to dismiss the suit at this stage.
It forces stealth play. If that’s your style, you’ll probably enjoy it. If it isn’t your style, you may not.
Neighbor put one of these out for bulk pickup. It is practically new. Saved it from the trash compactor.
I can't wait for adult fans to run to the Internet to complain about this very obvious kid's show. And for the next mass campaign against another new Star Wars show. Its wonderful every time. I just love it so much
Yeah but didn’t you like Rise of Skywalker? So grain of salt and whatnot. You literally love it no matter what they put out
