Eh I think either one could still do it if it's delayed. Duvernay just has that Central Park 5 TV movie and has Jenkins even signed on for WW2 yet? I'd also say favreau but he'll be in the thick of Lion King
Patty is official on WW2. Ava has other projects she's working on, and producing on top of it. god no on Favreau I'd go with Rian again..
Christopher Nolan Unintelligible mumbling from Tom Hardy and an ambiguous ending that leaves everybody wondering if it was all a dream. Action scenes would be tight though.
this was great news to wake up to. if they're looking to start on time and not delay, Johnson makes the most sense by far. I don't think he's announced for anything else right now and can literally just transition into IX from VIII. If he's announced before TLJ comes out you'd have to think they are extremely pleased with how it turned out.
Trevorrow was a lousy choice for Episode 9 to begin with. It's a relief he's gone. For continuity sake it would be cool if Abrams and Johnson co-direct Episode 9. That would be my preference.
Rian Johnson seems to be the easy choice. Nolan is too dark imo. I think him doing something like Rogue One would work. Im having a massive brain fart but the guy that did Iron Man/ Swingers / Jungle Book would be fun too.
I can't see Nolan playing in that sandbox. The only franchise he's been involved with is Batman and WB basically let him do whatever he wanted with it, including retire the hero at the end. He's always wanted to do a Bond but those are pretty standalone movies with wildly varying styles. With Star Wars he'd be very restricted. That's not his MO You're thinking of Favreau but he's tied up with Lion King
Leia, Princess of Alderaan - 7/10 Plot was just ok. Nothing crazy, but there was a ton of amazing tie-ins to other parts of SW canon. Also were introduced to some characters and locations we'll be seeing in TLJ. It's probably not a must read, but it's super short/ quick so I think it's worth it dont read if you plan on reading the book Spoiler Saw keeps on popping up in these stories. I think it's great. Also lots of Wobani from RO too. The entire Naboo section was awesome. From the Moff recognizing the likenesses between Leia and Padma. Him wanting to tell Palpatine only to get murked by Saw's guys was pretty great. Also thought it was really cool to describe the tenuous situation with the miner's on Naboo's moon, and how they were primed for a violent pushback. In the prequels Mace wondered if it was the miners that made the assassination attempt on Padma Also some references to Krennic too. Good stuff On to Phasma
Favreau... It was killing me. I had lots of Leia book thoughts that I wanted to get out and didnt want to look it up.
Imagine being a co-writer on BvS then being able to co-write episode IX I'm hopeful but not overly optimistic
Agree, feels more like a "well, he does work fast and replies to emails quickly" kind of hiring choice
Terrio also wrote Argo and won the oscar for it. It's not like he's a scrub. This is a good safe choice. I wanted Rian but I'm fine with JJ
The majority of people who post/view this thread consistently knew that was a bad hiring from Day One.
I wonder if the studio knows TLJ is going to be a big departure from the traditional SW model and are brining JJ in to bring it back for ep 9?
Could be. That's why I think Abrams a safe choice. If audiences disappointed with TLJ then Abrams can steer the film back in the direction they want.
I think thats reading too much into it. Reports are they offered Rian first and TLJ has been the only movie thus far NOT to have any writing drama.
After giving it some thought, I'm okay with - and more optimistic about - JJ. But the script is ever so important. I hope Rian has some input.
