So I’ve been pretty on the fence if I thought Bron would stay or leave. Today I heard this song Which reminded me of this commercial He’s staying. I’ve talked myself into it
There is zero chance Lebron is staying with our current roster plus Sexton. Altman (who has sucked at job so far) has some serious work to do.
INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Nearly one week before LeBron James must inform the Cleveland Cavaliers whether he intends to pick up the option on his contract with the Cavs for next season, Cleveland general manager Koby Altman said he and James' camp have already established a "good dialogue." "We continue to have good dialogue with his management team," Altman said Thursday after the Cavs drafted Alabama point guard Collin Sexton with the No. 8 pick. "I think LeBron has more than earned the right to approach his contracts the way he does. He's done that before, so this is nothing new for us. "We want to respect his space during this process, and I continue to have really good dialogue with his management team as he goes through that process. That's probably all I can say at this point regarding him, but we don't take him for granted. We love him, this city loves him. He means the world to us and this franchise."
Claims to have a rock-solid source that says LeBron will announce his return to Cleveland in 24-48 and that they have multiple trades in the works to bring in help.
Well, that was obvious. Doesn't make it hurt any less, but still sucks. Too bad I have no faith in Altman, because Love, Sexton, another high lottery pick next year, plus a few developing role players (Nance, Osman, etc.) might be enough of a core to attract someone here next year. Instead, don't think we'll be near the playoffs any time soon until a couple of our future picks developed.
It’s build through the draft time, that’s the only chance we have at being relevant again. I fully expect Love to get moved for younger guys and/or draft picks before the year is out. I’m guessing they’ll try to move TT as well, but that contract is awful. Build around a core of Sexton, Hood, Nance, Cedi and Zizic. It’s going to be a rough few years.
We've got a top 10 protected 1st rounder on the line for 2019 & 2020 It's in our best interest to suck as much as possible these next two years
The awkward thing about trading Love is that if you're a lottery/rebuilding team, you won't want to trade your rebuilding assets to take him and get stuck in mediocrity; if you're a contending team, would you be willing to give up enough to make it worth it for Cleveland? Like, would Boston be willing to part with Sacramento's pick next year (it's only #1 protected) to add Love? Not that he's a perfect fit for them, but a Kyrie-Tatum-Brown-Hayward-Love lineup with Horford off the bench would be pretty wild and that would give the Cavs two likely top 10 picks next years to build around with Sexton in 2020.
Also, not to poor salt in the wounds, but between: -Jordan Clarkson's historically terrible post-season (finished with the second lowest VA and EWA in the post-season in only 15 mins again) -Trading away our first round pick in the first year of a post-LeBron re-build -Opening up the path for LeBron and another max to get to LA That Lakers-Cavs trade at mid-season was an all-time terrible trade for us
1. Trade Love to Boston for Sacramento's first round pick this year 2. Clear out cap space next summer and clean up our balance sheet, dumping contracts like Tristan's for young fliers who can be solid depth 3. Tank enough to keep our top 10 protected pick 4. Sign Terry Rozier next off-season - Boston doesn't need him and he may actually want to come home 5. Draft two top 10 picks next year Sexton / Rozier / Osman / Zion Williamson / Bol Bol CLEVELAND, SAY HELLO TO YOUR 2022 NBA CHA - -check notes - POTENTIAL PLAYOFF CONTENDER!
Honestly yall should have had 2 ships. 2015 2016 maybe more if Durant wasn't a bitch. As a nets fan I would gladly trade the last 15 years with yall. Keep your heads up
I think we’re likely to take it much better than last time due to the last 4 years LeBron and Kyrie are good with me
there's really no reason for koby altman to continue collecting checks from this organization. that trade and the kyrie trade were both floating shit logs, and his only meaningful achievements as GM here.
this doesn't really hurt as much because a. we won a title. and b. lebron's 34. even if he stays, we're in this same spot a few years from now, and i don't know that there's anything we could have realistically done to jump gsw anyway. if i had any confidence in our galaxy brain front office, i'd be totally fine with this. plus nba 2k franchises are more fun when you build the team from scratch, so there's that. everything's turning up cleveland
It's crazy because on one hand I'm like "we had prime LeBron James and only got one fucking title" between: -His first year where Kyrie missed the finals after Game 1 but we were still up 2-1 going into Game 4 at home -Had the salary cap never got a MASSIVE jump up in 2016, Durant doesn't sign with the Warriors and we have a good shot to win the last two years -Had we won two titles in LeBron's first four years (especially this year) and maintained a core with Kyrie, maybe LeBron stays in Cleveland and wins another ...And on the other hand it's wild that we got one at all. That's all I ever wanted, so this was still a massive success. It's like we didn't get enough and got too much at the same time.
as soon as we got lebron golden state spontaneously jumped from perennial also-ran to juggernaut. in year one, we had two all stars suffer season ending injuries in the post season, costing us a shot at a title. then we had to rally from 3-1 down against a 73 win team to win the next year, which was promptly followed by durant signing with said 73 win team straight up. i feel like the sports gods just let their guard down in '16, and the durant thing was the universe correcting itself to ensure we never won anything again. i guess what frustrates me more than anything is how we spent the interceding years between lebron's exit and rearrival. we missed on so many top picks. we could have had a super team basically in place when lebron came back. instead it was kyrie and scrap metal. we didn't even have enough cap space to sign lebron because fuckface dan went and blew a huge chunk of it on garbage like andrew bynum and jarrett jack, which forced us to jettison what few assets we did have just to clear space. i'm really not looking forward to this rebuild. unless we get seriously lucky with the lottery balls, we're gonna spend a long time wandering the wilderness
Don't forget that we won the fucking lottery three fucking times - including once from the #9 hole. Expected value on a #1 overall pick is essentially an All Star, meaning we "should" have had three All Stars when LeBron returned. We turned those three assets into Kyrie - who we got three years out of with LeBron - and Love, while the third disappeared (packaged Bennett and Wiggins together with LeBron). The Love trade probably worked out, but was my no means a home run, and nearly every other move the front office made was like hitting our head with a shovel. Pissing Kyrie off then not being able to smooth it out with him, making the IT trade in the first place and STRENGTHENING OUR KEY RIVAL vs. just shipping him to a place like Phoenix for Bledsoe and assets, not getting the draft day Paul George trade done in Indy, making the dumb Lakers trade mid-season, letting Wade walk just to become a big piece in Miami again - and that's just in the past 12 months. How much was it an issue with GM LeBron holding a gun to our heads in some deals? How much was it him pulling strings? How much was it him never being willing to commit for more than a season or two killing long term plans? We'll never know and thank god we got that title, but it feels like such a confluence of factors between us shooting ourselves in the foot, a salary cap re-tooling in '16-'17 allowing super teams to happen, and the second best basketball player in the world being such a wet blanket that he joined three all stars on a championship team vs. competing against them next year that held us back from multiple titles.
Bulls fan checking in for our upcoming time together battling for last place in the Central. I’m sure the Dunn/Sexton battles will rank right up there with the Jordan/Ehlo, Lebron/Noah battles.
Trade Love, Tristan, JR, Hill, and murder Clarkson. Clear all your cap space and acquire picks and re-build for the next 3-5 years.
For 2019-20 Hill is only guaranteed $1m, JR only guaranteed $3.87m (if he is waived by 6/29/19), Korver only $3.44m (if he is waive by 7/7/19). Tristan ($18.53m), and Love ($25.95m) would both be expiring
In all seriousness, we should keep; Cedi Osman Ante Zizic Larry Nance Collin Sexton Everyone else can go. Get anything you can for everyone else. Free up a shit ton of cap space and acquire as many picks as possible. We need a true 3-5 year re-build.
We should honestly hire Hinkie. Altman is going to be way in over his head for this and we need a Hinkie type "blow it up and build for the future, trust the process" build. My fear is we remain perpetually in the 6-11 type lottery range because we tried to stay relevant
Also, is it a contractual obligation the two Finals team have to play on Christmas? Are we gonna have to watch the 8-17 Cavs get their shit pushed in against the 21-4 Warriors on Christmas?
I fear having the Pacers type purgatory (haven’t picked single digits since 1989) due to trying to compete still. I worry Dan owning the Casino could impact his willingness to tank as more people in the area around the casino/arena is good for him but I don’t know what type of profits there are there regularly and if the savings he’d have on the luxury tax and roster would offset that enough for it to be a non factor
Yeah, nothing against Detroit, but it seems like they are trying to stay relevant without doing a big purge and setting themselves up for the future... could mean 1,000 more people in the stands every night and maybe a chance at a playoff series as a 7 or 8 if everything breaks right, but now they're saddled with Griffin's contract and I can't even really imagine a way they'll be top 4 in the conference any time soon. Have a feeling that's the exact route we're headed toward.
If Sexton is a legit pg we're off to a great start in the rebuild and a year ahead. Send Love to a contender for a pick. Unfortunately I doubt anyone takes Tristan.
If Houston loses Capela, maybe they would give us a bunch of young assets to take Ryan Andersen's contract in a trade for Tristan.
