Im on record as saying I actually see crypto as just another technology that wrings waste out of the financial system. Fintech is just skin on old tech, crypto is more akin to Amazon and the book industry. It is a fundamentally different plumbing that requires fewer people and removes banks as necessary trusted institutions. Do you realize that CBDC’s (which you’ll undoubtedly support as it gives yet another tool to policy makers) are only possible vis a vis the technologies, systems, and cryptography developed over the last decade?
for people who want to read a not so friendly piece about the libertarian/crypto connections https://qz.com/1284178/almost-half-of-cryptocurrency-and-bitcoin-bros-identify-as-libertarian/ (44% of crypto owners identify as libertarian is new to me even!) a friendly piece talking about how it's great https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2021/...code-in-the-final-battle-over-state-coercion/ and the connections to fascism the OG piece that predated much of what we're talking about but saw it coming https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-insidious-libertarian-to-alt-right-pipeline another write I really like completing the circle https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...th-the-alt-right-than-they-want-you-to-think/ the Vice doc on Cantwell is also very good, he literally just explains how he went from reading Mises to being fash
The problem is that it’s becoming more obviously apparent…it’s really the new economic model that’s caused the decline in quality. Take after take after take required to keep their business afloat
Ahh I see. Satire. Right over my head I do like gambling and speculating and a non-zero % of my affinity for crypto is related to this
yesterday all blue check crypto bros were libertarian losers though so this is a huge downgrade it could even go to 0
political "agnostic" who also refuses to answer what they like about BTC. Points the finger at others for bad faith/ignorance. Carry on good sir
So it was three negative articles and little practical experience in the topic being very confidently discussed A symptom of the times
also in the time between my posting and your response you couldn't have even got through half of the coindesk piece let alone any of the others very good faith!
Lol at complaining the articles are negative. also, four minutes passed from his post of 4 articles to your post handwaving it away
The article’s link to the 44% claim doesn’t even work. And I’d love to know how many people outside the US they surveyed. Gonna guess the libertarians in Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Ukraine, Nigeria, Argentina, China, et al. aren’t exactly prevalent.
Whammy do I need to reprogram you before they figure you're the AI bot? You need to slow it down for them.
44% of crypto people are libertarians!! -posts article that links to another article allegedly making that claim with link that does not work Good stuff
Lyrtch heres what grinds my gears. I’ve been living and breathing this for like 14 months…living and breathing in discords / twitter / other social and experiencing this in the wild. Investing, losing, and winning - a substantial amount of time has gone into this. I’m very clear eyed about the negatives, I’ve done my fair share of poking user150000 as a BTC-only guy as have you. (Love you User!) But forgive me for not thinking a twenty-something neo-Marxist who went to Oberlin and did 10 minutes of research is more of an authority on the topic than I am. I look at those articles and immediately the Ron Swanson “I know more than you” meme pops in my head. I know infinitely more about the space than the people who wrote those articles. And here’s the thing, the limits of your knowledge is as deep as those twenty something journalists. I don’t come into the Left thread lecturing people on Robespierre because I’m out of my depth. You should approach this with a bit more humility IYAM.
again, you don't actually discuss anything which is fine, but I don't understand why you even respond the sweaty defensiveness is so bizarre
Amazing caricature you painted of the article’s authors and sources without doing a second of research. You definitely aren’t a chud spouting off that line without any basis besides it helps you dismiss an alternative viewpoint
What problem does btc solve? Lol. Let me count the ways. It’s literally a better money. Ask why people in Mexico prefer dollars. That’ll get you a good way there. It also theoretically gives property rights to anyone on the planet with a smart phone and the internet. It’s the only asset on the planet that doesn’t have a change in supply when demand increases. It enables the near instant transfer of value to anywhere on the planet in minutes. It’s a better monetary asset than gold on every monetary metric. It allows people in countries like Ukraine to flee with their money. Blah blah blah.
Ah yes vague responses. Btc is property. I can borrow against it. If I had $100m in btc, it’s truly dumb to do the “but you haven’t sold yet so aren’t rich” thing.
This is insane. I asked you a question a page ago. You respond with "if you can't understand" with a bunch of nonsense, followed by telling me to research your prior posts, and then throwing the question back at me instead of actually answering the question I initially asked. This is so hypocritical You guys are showing up to the crypto thread to be negative and you're not really making much sense in the process besides the people who have minimal understanding of crypto. That's so dope.
Comparing crypto to cash flowing real estate is one of the dumber things youve ever said and that’s saying something
Algorithms are usually algorithms for a reason too. They are seeing and reading these things for a reason. Only thing that hit my TL that's been posted was the 3AC and Radio Shack shit. These tangents that keep getting posted are on them.
You do not know "infinitely" more about the topic than someone with this professional back ground and it would have taken you 10 minutes of research to look it up before putting that foot in your mouth https://www.linkedin.com/in/georgiafrancesking
Imagine linking this and thinking it means they’re credentialed or an authority LMAOOO. Brain disease A twenty something freelance editor holy shit OMG Thank you giving me more fodder
These newbies like to say we are unfriendly but this is really no different than a welcome thread. But what the fuck is this guy talking about.
takes that you have zero response to except ignoring them, can't even take the time to read something written on coindesks literally website and quoting crypto folks who get regularly posted in here its embarrassing
I was today years old when I learned that informally studying a commodity for 14 months was a substantial amount of time
lmao did someone just say btc is better than gold as a reason for btc? lmao okay ya got me good there. And yea sure on the rest of the stuff I guess I'll ask a mexican about it. oh and yes, it's great to buy stuff instantaneously from anywhere in the world for all that stuff all us normal people are buying from all over the world that we need approved instantaneously. That's totally a nice trade off to all the fuck tons of carbon emissions you're ejecting out into the atmosphere. Oh yea but what about the Ukrainians and central Americans and etc you ppl bring up who might need alternate forms of money in case of emergency or failure of government. Oh yes well in that case yes for their benefit it def makes sense that you and all the other 25-40 year old white dudes in developed countries are buying up all that FINITE currency on the dip. the logic behind crypto and buying into it makes total sense from that angle. Honestly didn't even come in here to bash BTC. Came in here to learn since this dip offers a buying opportunity. I also can't stand Lyrtch so I was interested to see how this convo played out. In like 3 pages of back in forth with him, y'all's responses completed turned me off to crypto. So thanks. Also the parallels to crypto and libertarian are obvious to any nitwit. It should take you precisely zero googles to figure that out. The Libertarian to Alt-right pipeline is not nearly as obvious, but I was fortunate/unfortunate enough to have a former roommate who went through the pipeline at warp speed about 4 years ago and I've been interested in that specific topic for a while. I'll forgive ignorance to that. But if you can't see the relationship between crypto and libertarian you're just a dummy.
It is quite literally 1000x yours, the journalists cited, of Lyrtch’s You’ll trust a twenty something who’s done 10 hours or research. Why?
its called doing your due diligence, and only through you're own due diligence breast fed to you from a discord can you gain the coveted smooth brained enlightenment
Why are you citing the amount of research I have done on a topic that you are implying to be an authority on?
Thinking that joining a Discord server is evidence of one’s command on a subject matter may be the most pseudo-intellectual post made on this forum let alone establishing its a ‘substantial’ amount of time
Ok my little Karl’s, I’m about to get high, make dinner, and watch Better Call Saul. You guys keep reading and citing Gawker my big brained friends. I’m sure we’ll continue this tomorrow and the day after and the day after that, convincing no one of anything while Lyrtch keeps ranting about some Auburn fan from years ago and the libertarian (like .07% of people?) to fascist pipeline he read about a couple times.
