Yeah, boy was fucked up the first couple hundred meters or so. Glad the team made the right call once they got the skinny on the situation.
Confirmed concussion and broken collarbone, gritty little guy to keep on riding, glad the team stepped in.
Perfect scenario now too. Dumoulin has 2:30 on the field, and can climb a bit, so they can't settle for just taking a 20-30 seconds here and there on mountain stages. As usual, the Giro is shaping up to be bonkers. Also, I laughed the other day on the Blockhaus finish, when they showed TJVG finishing like 4 minutes down, and the Eurosport announcers were basically like "...and here's TJVG as his grand tour career comes to an end."
so true about Tejay. The sad thing is that he's spent his entire career focusing on three week grand tours, and as a result, he's lost a bit of his TT engine. He's still good at the TT, but could've been great. I think he needs a change of scenery. Go to another smaller squad and focus on week-long stage races and rack up some wins. Giro stage today is insane. Movistar has gone apeshit to mess with Dumoulin.
Pretty cool to see Rally take 1 and 2 in yesterday's Cali stage. I rather enjoy it when the break is not caught. Sometimes, more like all the time, I get sick of the Peleton lolly-gagging and not pushing things until late.
That's a bummer. I know it popular opinion to hate team sky, but out side of their Tour de France squad I really like them.
Have not heard that as I have not spoken with the peleton in awhile. I just love the grit it takes to fracture your pelvis and then continue on in the race to suport your team.
Well, LottoNL-Jumbo can piss right off. Asking the national TT champion of one of the proudest cycling nations in the world to soft pedal is legit and professional but a stunt that lasted less than a minute, hurt absolutely no one and garnered the team more endearing media attention than anything it's performance had dine this year is unprofessional. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/campenaerts-stunt-branded-unprofessional-by-his-own-team/
Gaviria is crushing the Giro. This is his first Grand Tour too. An awesome talent (he'll, he probably would've won Milan San Remo in 2016 if he didn't crash right before the sprint). You won't see a sprint more impressive than this, pretty much ever: https://d.filebox.moe/iisyhghv.mp4
AToC 1. Rally freaking rocked, having three guys in the break on the final stahe with two finishing in the lead group. Huffman taking 2 stages is insane. 2. Fuck Sky now and forever. David Lopez setting on the back wheel of the break away all day long, not taking a single fucking turn in an attempt to be an anchor so the peleton could catch up and still not being able to win the stage.
Gaviria is so much fun to watch. He has the potential to be the best sprinter of all time. Its going to be amazing to watch him grow. so true. Its still weird for me that Huffman rode for Astana for a few years. So happy to see George Bennett win. Love that guy.
hell yea Pierrroooo. Cannondale went two years without a World Tour victory and they've won twice in 7 days.
Can't let this be the only post about yesterday. On the queen stage, the pink jersey had to shit so bad he had to pull over, undress, and let it rip right on the side of the road just as the finale was starting. Then the other GC contenders attacked, and the pink jersey lost ~2:30 on the stage. I mean...I have no words for that.
i'm still digesting that. Dumoulin said that he's okay with it because the race was on when he pulled over. I don't necessarily feel that way. Zakarin attacked when Dumoulin pulled over, but then everybody let up for a few kms, but the damage was already done and Dumoulin would've put himself into the red if he tried to meet back up with the group. Its pretty impressive that he was able to keep the pink jersey, but Quintana didn't attack him, for some weird reason. Quintana has to get some time on Dumoulin soon because the final 30 km TT will be his doom if he doesn't have a ~2 min lead.
Zakarin said he didn't know what happened with Dumoulin, and that the pre-race plan was to attack at that spot. Then the team came on the radio and told him what was going on, so he sat up. Seems plausible given the way things played out. The damage was already done though.
Next three days could decide the whole thing. Folks need to gain some time on Dumoulin or he could get win this with a beastly final TT. Thurs Fri Sat
tiz has been flaky the past two days, but it was back up today. Steephill.tv has other good streaming links. Use Chrome and AdBlocker extension to make sure you don't get shitty pop-ups.
Other than Pinot settling for 4th, couldn't be more pleased with today's results. Have not been able to follow the Giro super closely this year but what I've caught I've been less than impressed with Movistar/Quintana's tactics and am really happy the excuse of the Sky/Froome machine keeping him off the top step can't be used.
this Giro will be a tough pill for Movistar to swallow, they just missed on the tactics. Lets see how they change for the tour
Bora and Trek just let some guys ride off the front with 1km left, ending any chance of a big bunch sprint in stage 2 of the tour de Suisse. Bit of a frustrating let-down after watching the whole stage.
And this is why I will never by a mountain bike. I know me and some day I would do something like this...
Due to an early break, Juraj Sagan wins the Slovak national race for the second year in a row. Apparently Slovakia and the Czech Republic hold their race together, thought that was interesting. The USA men's is at 12:30 central today and there's a YouTube stream for it. It's in Knoxville, would've been cool to go to, but I had no idea it was so close to me.
The US race is always fun. I hope someone from one of the big team wins this year. I wanna see the USA jersey at the biggest races
Their stream keeps explaining beginner concepts and it's confusing to me. Surely they don't think the people tuning in to a youtube stream are casual sports fans or something.

Can he handle it? * Only two time trials, and no super-high altitude climbs. Is this year for a surprise winner? * Only 3 Americans in the race: Talansky, Taylor Phinney and Nate Brown. All ride for Cannondale. Phinney is apparently going all out for the yellow jersey in the stage 1 TT.[/spoiler]
