Do you have good insurance? If yes, than minimal but the delivery will be pretty expensive and a ton of doctors appointments those first few months. If bad insurance, it could get costly. Is your wife staying home after maternity leave? If no, than that gets expensive. Food/clothes does cost money but nothing major. Housing would only go up if you decide you need to move but the first year, they don't move so housing should be fine. Its when they never stop walking and have hundreds of plastic colored toys that you feel you need a bigger house.
There's so much stupid shit people try to make it seem like you need with a baby that you really don't. Wives are susceptible to this type of thing for sure.
That’s what I thought, but it feels like I’m missing something. Diapers around $50/month? Yeah. Insurance premiums are covered 99% and already hit out of pocket max for the year. Wife is working part time and our parents will watch the baby when she is working. We’re in the process of buying a house right now, but that won’t change. She likes baby stuff, but not shiny/expensive stuff. She’s frugal.
So many diapers, so many. One thing that sucked hard was as soon as our daughter came out she had her own fucking deductible. Having her spend time in the nursery so we could get some rest was very expensive, it really pissed me off. I fucking hate healthcare so much in this country, hydraulic press for anyone who doesn't want universal healthcare.
Our insurance was fucking awesome with our kids. We only were charged the initial co-pay for the first OB visit on each kid. The rest were treated as the same visit.
We actually made money on both our biological children thanks to Aflac and we timed it perfectly. Sign up for maximum short term disability coverage, wait 6 months to get prego and then you profit, best thing we ever did.
Same with us for both of our kids. My wife had a co-worker who had a newborn that needed open heart surgery and they never saw a bill for it. They pay for it but they have a very generous policy.
Wife was livid yesterday. Our 4 yr old was sitting on the rug at daycare for circle time. Evidently one of the boys threw a fit and didn't want to sit down. So he goes and flips one of the tables up and it rolls over onto our girls back. She had a big scratch/cut from it. Lucky it didn't do more damage. He got suspended for the rest of the day. Our kids play together all the time at daycare. Well today the little boy brought in a rose for our girl to apologize. The mom wanted to reach out yesterday but she didn't have our number. I know kids can do things and accidents happen but I was happy with how his mom approached it. Hope it can be a good teaching moment for him.
My girls graduated from preschool today. Just gotta make it through the summer before public school kindergarten starts in the fall and I reap the harvest of not paying daycare anymore. I’ve been looking forward to this raise for 4 years now.
Lol, no it isn't. A FLAG came to our office and explained as part of their sales pitch. You sign up for short term disability, the trick is you have to have the kid 12 months after you sign up or else it does not cover it. AFLAC can be dropped at anytime. So you just stop buying it after you have the kid. Most young and growing familes we know who actually plan it out do this, thought it was common knowledge.
Today must be national everyone's busy day. We can't find anyone to babysit our kids tonight. Mommy and daddy just want to go to game 5 tonight!
Well we are back home and "settled." This whole no sleep thing is rough but we are managing. Its hard to wrap my mind around what has happened and how my life will never be the same again. Its also tough to describe how much i already adore this little peanut! cheers to happy, healthy life!
Headed to the MEU I caught her before she went limp on the way to our therapist appt. Thankfully I stay behind her just in case. She got a terrible contraction pain , got light headed and she went limp and I grabbed her before she hit the wall and lowered her to a sitting position on the floor. 36 weeks now.
Well Shelby has pre-eclampsia and had little roo's heart beat been sporadic for another 5 minutes or so they would have probably induced but it normalized thankfully we are home now.
She is feeling even worse today and went from fine to shaky and fell when she tried to stand. We are back at the MEU. Kinda hoping she gets admitted because none of this is good and a night of observation couldn't hurt.
We are being moved to labor and delivery because she is having contractions every 2 mins just in case. Might happen tonight if they can't stop her headache or the contractions.
Epidural is in and they putting the cervical foley in again since it really made her uncomfortable and she had them take it out. Now she is rested and The waiting game continues.
we may be having a baby today too c-section is currently scheduled for tuesday, but dr wants to do it earlier if she can. should know by this afternoon
she wanted to do it two days ago, but her blood pressure wasn't high enough. I told her she should have called her mom before the appt.
2 diaper changes so far and one successful breast feeding Shelby is asleep and our friend Kat is watching over her while we attempt to rest until midnight.
