Yep. And that was the cheap option in the neighborhood. Here is the cost of the one that is literally around the corner that would be super convenient as I could be out my front door and in their building in a 1-minute walk: http://www.landlschool.com/tuition.html (If you don't want to click it starts at $2,250 for infants and scales down to $1,500 for 3-year olds)
Dear God. I hate a lot of things about Tampa, but apparently expensive daycare isn't one of them. $1,300 for our infant was on the expensive end.
I think our infant is going to be $1700 a month. Our 3.5 year old is currently $1400 but I think we will start getting a 10% discount on him once our infant starts. Our center is open 6:30-6:00 but infant drop off starts at 7. We are now doing a morning nanny for a few hours each day too because I get to work by 7 and my wife travels and has the occasional early meeting which would make drop off a huge challenge. It is a huge bill for a short period of time. We are not at the most expensive daycare center in town either. There is one that was 50% more for infants because they cover formula and diapers. People associate expensive with quality and just pay it. We toured both and strongly preferred the one we are at.
My second baby girl was born about 45 minutes ago. 15 minutes after we got to the hospital baby was born. It was not fun navigating the DC beltway under that kind of stress.
I about lost my shit last night at my son's baseball game. A little backstory for reference, first year coach, 7-9 y/o league, I used to coach h.s. baseball but have tried to let the boy learn from others as much as I can so he can get different coaching. Whole season has been a train wreck as far as actual baseball instruction, they've had 2 practices all season, never taken infield and hit live pitching once. My son's friend's grandfather and I are coaching their team for the 2nd season coming up and I think his current coach caught wind of it, so my son is benched for 3/5 innings of their first playoff game. Meanwhile at least 6 kids played every inning and only 1 other kid sat more than once. I considered addressing it with the coach after the game but decided he has a minimal amount of games left until "summer" ball starts and I'll just let it go.
If that's what he is paying for daycare than I can't imagine it would be. I pay $1750 a month for infant care, granted it's probably the most expensive daycare in my city, that's a whole other story. We started with a nanny though for the first 6 months and it was much more expensive. In our area any decent nanny is going to run in the $12 an hour range, if your wife and you work normal working weeks then the nanny is going to be there 40+ hours a week. It get's really expensive fast. Not to mention that at that point you are considered an employer so you get into all the tax implications which pushes it up more and would be a pain in the ass to deal with. I hate shelling out the kind of money that I do for daycare but at least for us it was at least $500 a month cheaper than a nanny.
Probably for the best but I don't know if I could let some shithead adult, punishing a kid like that slide.
We thought about a nanny, $18/hour was the going rate. Pretty much all daycare is $2000+ per month and they’re really not as impressive as you’d like them to be for that cost but somehow have 6+ month waitlists for infant rooms. Even called one place that had a year waitlist, which is absurd to me. Our friends recommended a place they were on the waitlist for that was around $1100/month but a little out of the way for us. Turned out the director’s father was a family friend of my wife and being slightly inconvenienced to save $900/month was worth it. Grandmas are upset because they were going to watch the little Hoo for the summer combined with the wife only working part time, but they don’t pay any bills at my house.
Yeah, we would need 6:30-5:00 every day so that is more than 50 hours a week and the hourly rates would be higher here. Not to mention, our daycare never gets sick, never needs vacation and it allows our 3 year old to socialize with other kids.
Good God, where do some of you live?! I live in an affluent area that jacks the prices up on everything, and our daycare isn’t close to some of these prices.
It had the best info I could find in a map but I was hesitant to use it because 1) I hate green 2) Contrast sucked. It’s from a paper in Boston. Bun’cha chowdaheads.
Raleigh, NC. Like I said though, I'm probably at the most expensive daycare in the city. Most are in the $1,000-$1,3000 range. My nanny was awesome and my wife was just not willing to budge on anything with finding a daycare. They had just built a brand new, very nice daycare about a mile from our house. That means my wives work and daycare are all in a 1 mile radius. She easily drives under 50 miles a week with going to daycare, work, and errands. I was never winning that battle. After stroking weekly checks to my nanny of $500+ though, it made swallowing the $1,750 a month much easier.
I live in a suburb that is probably best known nationally for being the obvious home of the Hawks, the rival of the Mighty Ducks.
And with the drop of a gavel yesterday morning at 9:15 our 3 foster daughters are now mini IHYT 3, 4 & 5. We will have multiple teens in the house for the next 13 years... oh boy.
Maybe tell your son to be better at baseball? Just kidding obviously. That fucking sucks. Seeing kids I was significantly better than get more opportunities than me because their dads were coaches played a big part in killing my love for the game. It's probably a good thing in the long run that you're taking over.
I was always a huge baseball fan when I was younger, like 2nd or 3rd grade and at a practice I was swinging in the batters box and my coach's grandson wasn't paying attention and walked behind me and I accidentally hit him in the head. Gave him a concussion. The coach said it was my fault and called me a worthless little shit and said I wasn't welcomed on the team anymore. Ruined the game for me and now I hate baseball. I'm a sports freak except baseball but I couldn't care less if my kids play sports. I would love nothing more than to avoid all of the bullshit you posted above.
Not sure if anyone in here are fans of Ben Rector. He's an Oklahoma guy so wife and I have seen him a bunch, his songs are wholesome and he's quite talented. Anyways I'm sharing because his new album came out, he has a 16(ish) month old, I know cause my son was born around the same time. Anyways his last song - "Love Like This" is obviously written to his daughter. Just fought back tears listening to it in my office and thinking of my little man. Being a dad has made me a BIGTIME softy Lyrics Spoiler https://genius.com/Ben-rector-love-like-this-lyrics [Verse 1] Never was an early riser, used to bein' up all-nighter Never saw the mornin' light quite like I do now Never said no to a party, never started savin' money But everything is different since you've been around [Chorus] It's the way you're smilin' at me, it's in the way you hold my hand It's the way I've watched you change me from a boy into a man It's a million things about you, and I don't know what it is But I have never known a love like this [Verse 2] Never used to get excited to sit here in the silence Holdin' on to somethin' the way I'm holdin' you Didn't used to know how fast time walks and runs and flies by I never thought I'd feel so deeply, but damn, I do [Chorus] It's the way you're smilin' at me, it's in the way you hold my hand It's the way I've watched you change me from a boy into a man It's a million things about you, and I don't know what it is But I have never known a love like this [Bridge] It's funny how everything I dreamed about Starts to seem so empty without you 1, 'u-xx_large_top_margin': $height > 0}" style="box-sizing: border-box; display: block;"> [Chorus] It's the way you're smilin' at me, it's in the way you hold my hand It's the way I've watched you change me from a boy into a man It's a million things about you, and I don't know what it is But I have never known a love like this I have never known a love like this [/lyrics]
Same with my son who is almost 2...even though he’s starting to act like a terrorist sometimes, I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Fighting through it go figure one of my gf's developed symptoms after birth is migraines and because of the weather this week it has been a hellish 5 day migraine for her. She has done well considering she's never had one before but it has kicked her ass the past few days. Other than that it has been a blur of smiles , diapers, sleep deprivation and laughing.
Well he was better than everyone by a country mile, so that's not saying much. The 1 time my team played his (he was in a different division) I remember him telling me at school he was going to bean me. Dude threw 75+ at age 12 on a little league field, so I was for every at bat. Wound up reaching base 2/4 times, neither of which from being hbp
Hank Scorpio Sup Twin Lakes bros Had to double take and then the James Houser post clicked. Think he was 3-4 years older than me but I was 8 playing “majors” when it was 9-12. Small world.
Yeah. Well American, Central and National all played there, I think. And then East Central was at Twin Lakes.
Saw little nonatty for the first time this afternoon. Ultrasound tech didn’t say anything definitive, but she didn’t seem concerned about anything. Spoiler
After the first 3-4 months, she’ll probably get in a routine & things will calm down. Our son started sleeping through the night at about 5 months old.
Don't know if she's still dealing with being scared of food while she was teething or just fussy/picky in general, but eating solids when her molars were coming in was hell on earth.
