Ya, I remember going to a couple parenting classes while she was pregnant and the teachers talking about colic. They said 1-5 kids will get it. The whole time I am sitting there I'm thinking to myself, "my kid won't have it". Sure enough, Boom. Super happy and grateful he has all 10 fingers and toes, but the colic thing was a nice welcome into parenthood.

From what I have gathered from colic is it's basically like heartburn all the time for infants. I have also heard a theory that their nervous system is not fully developed yet and that could cause some irritation. Almost like that feeling when you hit a baseball with a metal bat in cold/wet weather and you get a stinging feeling running through your entire body.

Who knows, I am just ready to start throwing the football with this young man. My situation is a little different in that I have experience raising a boy from age 3 to 10. In my previous relationship, my ex had a son who I met at 3 years old. Now with my new situation, this one is a little different as it is my blood son. I feel comfortable teaching how to tie shoes, proper form when shooting a basketball and how to skip a rock across a pond, but to change a diaper in the back of a Jeep Patriot is a whole new experience.

After night three, kid loves to sleep but he’d rather sleep than eat so feeding is an adventure. Gotta wake him up to eat but then hes too upset to latch. When he does decide to latch, he’s been doing a good job of eating for 30 minutes or so.

I let all 3 of my kids sleep instead of waking them up.. all 3 still sleep through the night too..

Wife is a speech therapist and she immediately said he needs to have his frenulum clipped. Lactation specialists agreed but need a referral from pediatrician so we just took him there and the pediatrician agreed so that’s gonna happen Monday. Hopefully that helps him be able to latch easier.

Wife is getting induced in about an hour. Baby number 1 so not sure what to expect. Wife had some slight elevated BP and doctor said risks far outweigh rewards. He’s two weeks early but already weighs about 8 pounds so not too worried.

I feel like I’ve packed for a 2 week vacation to go to the hospital for two nights since the wife has strep.

On a happier note, the fact my son chose to come two weeks early on a bye week no less, means he's definitely going to be a Bama fan.

Roo always wanted to eat. She'd sleep for 2-3 hours then eat I think the longest she slept in the first month was 3 1/2 hours maybe.

Waking every 2-3 hours to eat was a rough two weeks. Thought we were golden after two months when she only woke once at night to eat, otherwise slept. Then that damn 4 month sleep regression comes.

Had an extensive talk with my 6 month old son on not being a #Detroit Lions fan yesterday. At this rate he may end up playing for the team though. He's just about as big as his 2 year old sister who is in the 93% for height and weight. I fear I'm going to tear my rotator cuff carrying his car seat.

Little jplaya arrived Sunday at 1217am. He is a birthday diva like his mom and wanted a full day of it. He’s 7lbs 3oz and 20in long. Momma and son are doing great. He’s not a screamer, latched immediately, and has been eat, sleep, and pooping pretty regularly in 3-4 hour intervals. Feeling pretty hashtag blessed.

I was just sitting down to enjoy PAC-12 after dark Arizona and the OB came in and was like 10cm, let’s go! She had been like 3-4cm in the 3 hours prior and it was wild how quick it changed. Had to use forceps to get him out, but no harm no foul and he’s good to go. He’s got a head full of hair and we’re in love!

This happened with us. I asked our nurse at one point if she had to guess what time would be time to push she guessed around 2 AM. At 11PM my wife starts freaking out. Of course our nurse had got called to some emergency surgery so the floater comes in, measures, "oh yeah you're 10 cm brb". Leaves the room to go get our doctor/more help and my wife really started losing it. I had to open the door to the main area and yell " WE NEED SOME FUCKING HELP IN HERE NOW". Seconds later we had 4 nurses in there and doctor followed shortly after. It was wild going from 0 to 100 after sitting around all day and nothing really happening.

We had a similar experience. We got the floater because our nurse was assisting delivery with her other patient. She ended up being better than ours though and my wife was pretty pumped about that.

Could use some tips. My fiancé’s son who’s three won’t stop being bad at day care. They told him he couldn’t stay there today and my fiancé couldn’t take off so I’m watching him while I work from home. Don’t feel like it’s my place to punish him although we’ve been together for two years and I’ve played a role in raising him. Just don’t know how to get him to be good but I know getting out off day care and hanging out with me all day isn’t a good form of punishment as he loves being around me.

He’s been spitting and hitting his teachers. It’s gotten more prevalent over the past month. He has some bad cousins that are you a bad influence when he goes to his dads and he just back from there this weekend. We don’t know what’s causing him to act like this.

When he is engaging in the bad behavior, don't feed in to it. Instead, have somebody pull away the person he is doing it to and shower them with attention. Obviously it is harder when he is doing it to a teacher than another kid but the principle is the same that he wants attention and is getting it by misbehaving so you're better to let him see the attention given elsewhere.

If they're having problems with him not doing something and that is what is starting this, then have them start doing it and make sure it is clear they are enjoying it. For instance, if he isn't picking up toys then get close to him and start picking up toys and talking about it to each other but not directly to him. Eventually, when he is calm, ask if he thinks this goes in X or Y spot and use your body but not words to try to encourage him to put it there. If he is saying I want to do X then respond with we can do X after we put this away and follow through on doing X. Talking to directly to a kid that is having issues usually has the opposite of the intended effect as it overstimulates them when their mind isn't ready to process it.

Little McGuirk has RSV. She’s about a year old and the doc said he is confident that she won’t have issues recovering, but it is day 4 now and she’s still running a pretty high fever.

We have been religiously using the little nebulizer mask they gave us...guess I just have to ride it out.

Wife and I just started talking about Christmas and gifts because she just got an American Girl catalog. She wanted to get her a “special” doll to which I said she already has one and it isn’t treated special at all. Just a waste of money. Help me with some alternatives. My suggestion was a Nintendo Switch or something that you can buy new but won’t take up much space and we all can have fun. How age appropriate are most games and is that the best system for a 6 year old? She has the Leap thing and uses that controller but it’s very basic functions.

You’ll love this. Just got a $3,000 EOB from insurance. Claims denied but the claims were from my child born almost 2 years ago. Evidently hospital never submitted the claims and just now did. It’s out of the 12 month window to submit and I also don’t have that insurance anymore. This is going to be a fun battle coming up. We aren’t paying for the hospitals screw up.

Man that's annoying. We kept getting a bill for a procedure lil man had when he was born. Our doctor kept saying don't worry about it, we'll take care of the billing but we kept getting bills for it. Finally his assistant was like "sorry but it keeps getting denied, I'll submit it one more time but after that it's your problem". My wife got on a conference call with his assistant and insurance people, turned out dr's assistant was submitting the claim with the wrong policy #, 100% her fault.

The people that handle all that at Dr. offices are awful. We apparently paid too much to the Hospital and then the Doctor wanted his payment. Went round and round saying either get the Hospital to cut us a check for the over payment or get the money from them. Luckily the wife works in HR and benefits/healthcare is her bread and butter. She was very angry to have to deal with it during her maternity leave.

Anyone have pre-teens here? My son started middle school this year and apparently it’s not cool to wear children’s place clothes anymore. He has a shit ton of Under Armour shirts and hoodies but needs more jeans. Not paying 50 bucks for a pair of jeans he will outgrow by next year at Abercrombie or the like. Where does everyone buy “cool” jeans for kids these days?
